Love this place! This part of town doesn’t have a lot of sci-fi/comic/board games/hobby type of stores, so this little gem is super handy. Conveniently located across from the parking garage, next to Macy’s, Sci-Fi City is easy to get in and out of if you want to avoid the rest of the mall. As you pass through the Stargate portal framing the entrance, you’re immediately greeted by an array of life-sized cardboard cutouts of your favorite sci-fi/fantasy characters. Posters from films, TV shows, books, and various games adorn the walls(copies of which are available for purchase), and below the inevitable din of gaming activity, you’ll hear the faint hum of a cooler — stocked with Coke products to refuel patrons. Given the size of the store(tiny), the breadth of its offerings is quite impressive. Board games range from familiar family favorites, to the niche and obscure. The comics offerings are generous for a game-centered store. There are four long tables at the back, complete with a shelf of free play games and a microwave — a requisite for deck-building nights and gaming meet-ups. What sets Sci-Fi City apart from other stores like it, however, is the gaming console setup. Guests can lounge in over large leather sofas and play across four giant flat-creek TVs. From what I understand, there are regular gaming tournaments and leagues. If you’re into RPGs or miniatures, there’s a place for you here as well. There’s a huge selection of story and character books for D&D, and lots of other fantasy worlds. And a whole wall full of figurines(plus a selection of paint and supplies) for your world-building needs. My only small complaint about Sci-Fi City is that the gentleman who was working the counter(I think he’s the manager, or possibly the owner) wasn’t super friendly. But everyone has their off days, so I don’t hold that against him. If you’re in the area, or even if you’re not, come check this place out! I guarantee you’ll find something that tickles your fancy!

We went for Free Comic Book Day. I can’t really rate how the store is the rest of the time. There were quite a few people in the store. They had a woman doing face painting. She made a nice unicorn on my daughter’s arm. They had quite a few boxes of comics in the back for 80% off. I’m not sure if that was only for Free Comic Book Day or if it is a regular sale. I was able to find several comic books for my son, with characters he recognized, for $ 0.20. Since, my son brought a hand full of change from his piggy bank he was happy that he could afford a few comic books. There were also several tables set up in the back for people to play games at. There were 8 men over the age of 25 playing. It’s in a mall, so they have to try and appeal to as many people as possible. They seemed to have a little of everything. The staff were all very nice to my kids. When I brought up one of the comic books to see if it was really $ 0.20 the cashier said yes, and even told me that their might be enough money in the take a penny, leave a penny to pay for it. My son was trying to get his change out of his pocket.

When I saw the name, I thought that it was a duplicate of Sci-Fi City in Orlando, FL. That store had almost anything you could ever imagine from board games, models, little figures, comics, DVDs, and computers for interactive games. This store was too small for all of that. It had a few TVs up front with chairs to support a few people. There were many, many board games, including some for The Walking Dead, which seemed strange but it’s a current show. Overhead, they had an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise running to the delight of one of the workers. Toward the back were some tables and a bunch of people who I suspect were there for a weekly meet-up, as they were at that other Sci-Fi City. I wonder if they had all their little pewter soldiers for some game of strategy. They had a few comic books and some accessories, but nothing was in a big quantity other than the board games. Since it was in the mall, of course, it was going to be a bit expensive. Try finding discount stores – well, okay, the mall is introducing Marshalls and Burlington Coat Factory but those have huge companies behind them.

I love sci-fi but this store had nothing I was interested in, except The Walking Dead comics or graphic novels. Lots of random board games as you walk in. The staff did seem friendly and welcomed us quickly and announced the storewide sale going on.

On a wimb, a friend and I decided to check out Northgate Mall. Having never been in this mall before, I wasn’t really sure what to excpect. To my surprise there were a number of stores directed toward some of the more nerdy audiences, Sci-Fi City being one of them. Now I don’t use nerdy in a derogatory way. In fact, I consider myself quite the nerd, and generally speaking I enjoy stores like Sci-Fi City, even when I am not interested in exactly what it is they are selling. Although the name would imply a store filled with sci-fi books and movies, however, this is not what you will find here. The store is more of a hodge podge of items, covering all the major nerd genres. There are a few comic books, some card based games, a section for playing video games with friends, movie posters, and so on. Of everything they carry though, Sci-Fi City seems to specialize the most in board games. Unfortunately however, the majority of them seemed to be overpriced. All in all, not a bad shop to stop in if you happen to be in the mall, but not somewhere I would make a special trip to visit. In most cases, you can probably find the same items here at better stores throughout the city at cheaper prices.

This isnt a place to go for comic books cuz the owner basicly told me that he only gets in what he likes but if you want board game stuff this is the place to go but be warned. this store is pricey.

If you’re a big Sci-Fi nut, then the Northgate Mall has just the store for you: Sci-Fi City. Sci-Fi city is, of course, dedicated to basically any and everything Sci-Fi, although it’s not just limited to science fiction entertainment. In fact, almost none of the right-front is about Sci-Fi. Instead, there is a pretty extensive collection of board games and other neat looking games. There are also chess and backgammon sets near the front as well, among other items. In the left-front corner near the register are four«pods» with four comfy chairs and four TVs where you can play what looked like simulator video games that involved wearing a headset. There were some kids playing when I was in the store and it definitely looked like they were having fun. The rest of the store, however, is more dedicated to its overall niche: the Sci-Fi genre. From movie posters and cardboard stand-ups(Yoda, Indiana Jones, etc.) to comic books and collector cards, they have a ton of Sci-Fi items. The comic book collection doesn’t come close to what they have at Fairfield’s Queen City Comics(in fact, they’ve probably never been mentioned in the same sentence until now), but they do have a lot of merchandise for the Sci-Fi lover. I can’t completely speak for Sci-Fi lovers since I’ve never come anywhere close to dressing up like a Klingon or anything like that, but from what I saw at Sci-Fi City it seems to be a very good store for Sci-Fi fans. At the very least it’s a great place to buy a game for a gift, or just for you and your friends.
