The Hillside Gastro Pub

I typically agree with the masses when browsing through Unilocal for places to frequent. I’m not sure why older reviews are still on here from prior to this being the Hillside Gastropub. I certainly don’t agree that this place is less than average.
I’ve been here 3 times in the last 4 months and each time I felt the food was good, the beer was cold, and the service was great.
Once we sat at the outside bar, once inside, and once out on the patio with live music. The food is good. Sure there could be more variety, but I’d rather have a limited menu that is executed properly than 40 options and none of them that great.
My favorite food here are the burgers by far. The Pacific and the all American are my go to choices. The fries that accompany the burgers are plentiful.
Give this place a shot. Sunset in the summer are great on the patio!

It’s hit or miss on the food tasting good and in my personal opinion for a bar it’s overpriced and extremely limited on offerings. Same with the waitresses… sometimes good, sometimes bad. There’s just an overall lack of consistency.

So we came in to hear Danny Frazier play. Always a treat. We ordered food and it was a little slow but it appears they don’t don’t get many orders close to when the kitchen closes. Skins were good but too much potato for my taste. Girlfriend liked them lots though. I got the Hawaiian burger and fries. Fries could have gotten to me hotter but they were hot enough and very good. Burger was excellent but they could have cut out the dang pineapple core! Other then that it was great. Drinks are honest you can dance to the band and they all were. By the way it is called the hilltop gastro pub for like several years now.

Rating 1 star. I went here for the first time and will not be back. I had ordered 1 drink and my friend ordered another drink — I paid. The bartender swiped my card for some other patron’s bill which was 40 dollars. I pointed out the mistake and she claimed to fixed it with my card and swiped it for my bill which was under 9 dollars. So I got charged twice with no credit back for her mistake. I just checked and it wasn’t ever fixed and I do not have the receipt. My fault for not saving it. I know these things can happen, but usually they can fix it correctly. Not pleased.

I can’t believe I left money in this place. Should have walked right back out. Food, service, everything awful! Server left our food in the window to go smoke and then came back smelling like an ashtray.

Apparently the original chef has left and they jettisoned the daily specials which were the best part of the menu. The menu that is left has been greatly reduced and though they got rid of some of the less appetizing items, what is left lacks variety. They also have a reoccurring sewage problem and have done very little to improve the décor and outdoor area.

Zero stars for Poppys. Save your time and money. Eat somewhere else.
Overpriced, zero training, poor quality food.
Feel bad for servers. They give their best effort, and due to every other aspect of Poppy’s, they likely can’t make much money.
Now if you go next door to Zakura’s, they get it right every time. Same owners I believe so odd that one can be so good, and one so bad.
