Don’t come here expecting general tsos chicken. While they do have it the absolute stars of the menu are the authentic ones. I had the Peking duck and it was the most authentic Chinese dish I’ve had in Ohio. My buddy had a fish dish that was absolutely amazing. Definitely a place to go outside your comfort zone in and definitely a hole in the wall

Real deal, authentic Chinese food! Food is delicious, but service is slow, so plan on taking an extra long lunch. Great for catering, especially for large events! I was hosting a corporate lunch for 150 guests, and we wanted authentic Chinese food. Uncle Yip’s was our first choice for catering! I talked to Vera(the owner) on the phone, and she was very excited to help me choose a menu that would fit my budget and satisfy everyone in our large group. I ended up coming into the restaurant for lunch with a few Chinese-speaking friends in order to finalize the menu. Vera speaks very good English, but having someone that speaks Mandarin or Cantonese will help you a lot when you’re eating here(not required, but helpful). Our favorite things were the spring rolls, the sweet and sour chicken(less breading than other restaurants, with fresh pineapple and veggies, much more authentic than the stuff you’ll get on a chinese buffet!), general tso’s chicken, mai fun noodles, sliced beef with hot chili peppers(with jalapenos, not too spicy actually, very flavorful), and the green beans. Everything here is DELICIOUS, but it did take us an hour and a half to eat our lunch. Catering ended up being about $ 10 a person, and I got so much great feedback on the food! We picked up the food, but I think they own a van so you could talk to them about delivery. Everyone loved it, and I would definitely recommend ordering catering from them again.

service… meh food… awesome, just had a lunch entrée but the shrimp were plump and juicy and the veggies fresh and crisp. Portions were adequate and I am a big eater. Definitely will be back.

I had lunch here with my girlfriend. At first we had no idea what to order even though we are Chinese and this is a Chinese restaurant. The waiter is handsome and cute, he helped us a lot. I am full up right now and we’ll come back for sure!

*food: generally, the food was good. We got some dim sum, and most of them are made in the house. It’s better than many other dim sum places. *service: people were nice, but they FOTGOT things easily. We ordered 3 «cooked to order» dishes. It took almost 20 minutes for us to get the first one. We waited for another 10 minutes and asked where the second one was. Then it was served. We didn’t even got the third one when we left.(The funny thing was that we didn’t even realized we did not get the third dish.) I guess u also need to be very careful when u check out because you don’t know if they accidentally charged u something that u didn’t have. We called them after we realized we didn’t get the third dish but paid already, I called them back. The owner was polite and asked if we could come back to get it. She had it as a togo for us. We order 7 items in totally and spent about $ 48 before tax and tips. I will let u decide if this is a worthy place to come. ;) we might come back tho just because the owner lady was pretty nice.

This is the best place in the area for traditional dim sum, most of the items are made in house rather than the prepackaged frozen garbage other places in the area serve. Huge variety to choose from, they also have a full menu of Asian and seafood dishes. Egg custard and har gow are some of my favorites. Great hot tea as well!

I have been dining regularly at Uncle Yips for some time now. This is the best Chinese cuisine in Cincinnati. The owner Vera is always gracious and welcoming. If I had to wait an hour or more for a table, I would gladly do so. Everything I have sampled from the menu is first class. The beef tendon dishes are a personal favorite. I am at the point now, that whenever I come in I just let Vera order for me; what is brought to the table is always delightful. When I come into Cinci from Indiana, Uncle Yips is usually on my agenda. The cuisine here always make my day! I’d love to take a cooking class there someday. Hail Vera and Chefs! This is a Cincinnati Treasure! Fr. Dave

So far, this has been the best dimsum in Cincinnati. It is not amazing, but is descent in quality, but a little more pricey than the typical for other major cities such as Seattle or San Francisco. If you want the true dimsum experience in this area, this would be a respectable place to go. If you want better, you may have to go to another major city to get superior dimsum.

Overall average in terms of your dim sum experience. They do push carts here but the options were a bit limited. Not too busy for a Sunday during lunchtime which is usually the peak hour for dim sum. Overall total price was a bit high, but they didn’t give the breakdown for each dish.

We’ve not been here for the longest time because the food quality has gone down. However, a friend of mine told me that the ownership has changed and the food actually is better! We ordered the typical food such as chicken feet, shrimp dumplings, steamed ribs… it was truly much better than what it used to be. The service was okay, but once you get the waitress attention, then they will push the cart over for you to pick the food items. Overall, I’m very please with the quality of the food and as it is closer to home, I can enjoy good dim sum more often!

BESTCHINESEFOODINCINCINNATI!!! The food is fantastic. The owners care so much about what their clientele thinks. I have eaten here 10 times since the ownership changed. Try the dim sum. Best any where. Choose form either menu but the chinese written menu(with english translation — single page menu) is the way to go. Best duck anywhere.

My wife and I enjoy Uncle Yips for their authentic Chinese food. The restaurant isn’t fancy. It’s adequately clean and adequately furnished but definitely not fine dining. If anything it’s a bit run down and could use some spiffing up. You may even have challenges understanding the servers unless you speak Chinese. Probably that’s what adds to the«authentic» Chinese experience? Nevertheless, these challenges have not deterred us from visiting Uncle Yip’s. We come here for the food. We enjoy the food we get and that’s what matters. We’ve been here for dim-sum and for regular dining several times and have always had a good experience.

Very good dim sum. Lots of choices and great service. You can also order off menu. Chinese broccoli was very good. We ordered a variety of shrimp and pork dishes plus rice and desserts. It is in the corner of a shopping center.

This was our first time trying dim sum. The food here was amazing and the experience was a perfect way to kick off the new year. For those unfamiliar, think of it as Chinese tapas that will keep coming as long as you want it to. You pay based on what you select and it’s better the more people you have(and things you try). The wait staff was solid, the selection was deep and I could have kept right on eating. I will be back.

I have been to Uncle Yips three times now, and each time I enjoy it more. I have eaten dim sum at plenty of other restaurants, and had Chinese food from all over the country. Uncle Yips consistently lives up to expectations. The staff do a good job explaining what’s in the dim sum if you aren’t familiar, and are quick to take care of you if you’re short on a drink or finished with your plate. The dim sum itself has always been fresh and very tasty. There are few other Chinese restaurants that rival Uncle Yips in the cincinnati area, and for dim sum, they are far and away the best. I can’t recommend them enough.

Today we visited with a party of 13. The staff and owners are so friendly and accommodating. The food was wonderful. Whether or not you are a first timer or a seasoned veteran this is our top choice for dim sum.

Wonderful dim sum-we go often and there is always something new we haven’t tried before. Ignore the couple of one star reviews-one of them has given 1 place a 5 star review and 61 star reviews, which kind of tells you something. We have never experienced bad service here. Vera, the owner, is sweet and welcoming and everyone is very friendly and attentive. The food is terrific-fried shrimp balls, turnip cakes, pineapple buns, and sesame balls are a few of our favorites. They also have spicier things which is unusual for dim sum. This is a wonderful place to spend a weekend afternoon. Don’t miss it.

Walk in a few minutes before opening. Stood around for 10 minutes and then a man came out — I think he was the cook, but then made a gesture to sit down anywhere, no words, just grumbles. Off to a great start. We sat as more tables came in and after 10 – 15 minutes of sitting, finally someone came over and actually said words to us(they had greeted all tables after us and started serving them water and tea). We had to just sit there helpless as tables kept arriving and no one was free to serve us any drinks. Finally another server arrived, who brought us tea and water — but no teacups. Awesome. A few minutes later we were able to flag someone down who really sincerely apologized for the oversight, I suppose it wasn’t a big deal since we weren’t eating yet. Meanwhile, I watched as dim sum was being placed on carts, but no one was serving. I get it, we were the first tables seated, but this was bad on so many levels. Although it wasn’t dark, 20 minutes into sitting, lights were turned on. Come on, really? The food — most was authentic, but not a lot of options and it was somewhere between passable to average. One of the waitresses knew one of the tables and it was very apparent that favoritism was occurring — I suppose it worked out since we were sitting next to them so the food cart came to us at the same time, but I felt bad for other tables. We only came for dim sum, so I can’t speak for other food — I’ve just had a lot of pretty darn good dim sum in my life, so this just doesn’t do it for me. Most tasted like someone who decided to sorta make dim sum, but just stopped short of going the few extra steps to make it really good — and only wanted to make a small selection, which defeats the purpose of going out for dim sum! Har Gow — oversteamed and bottoms stuck to the wax paper, and the wrapper was a bit thick; tripe — underseasoned; black bean ribs — seasoned well, best dim sum item we ate, potstickers — okay, skins were a bit thick; shrimp covered crab claw — not really a dim sum item, this was the best thing we ate. Service got better through our visit, and I’m sure part of this was because of how early we arrived, but I gotta give them 2 stars based on our visit.

This place is a little hidden from the main road, we went around 7 on a Monday it was pretty empty. The food is great — we had the lobster and pork bean sprouts stir fry. The lobster is really good and it’s nice that you can pick to get one or more. The waiter we had is pretty funny, his tone sounds like he’s really hating life but I think that’s just the way he talks lol. The service is prompt but a little haphazard. The owner is super friendly and told us they are going to offer hot pot! May have to make another stop back here soon.

Outstanding authentic Chinese food and the dim sum is the best I’ve had in Cincinnati. Being a Thai chef I have a hard time finding good quality Chinese food, but here it is amazing! Met both owners and are very nice people. Come enjoy real Chinese here!

We brought a large party of 17 people on a Saturday night. We had reservations and were seated promptly. The food was delicious! I’ve been to China and am a Chinese cuisine snob. This definitely met my very high standards. We had several appetizers and ordered a large quantity of food. I got the beef chow fun and sampled many other dishes. The chow fun noodles are made fresh daily and melted in my mouth. The owner of the restaurant was sweet, and spoiled us by bringing over a plate of spicy beef. Oh my god. It was so good. And so hot! The service was slow but no one was in a rush. I would call it a banquet, where dishes were brought out a bit at a time. The staff and owner were hugely apologetic and gave us free desserts. As we were leaving, the owner started making us a care package of desserts to take home! It was like eating at grandmas. You never leave empty handed. If you are looking for an authentic experience and aren’t in a terrible rush, please try Uncle Yips. We will be back many times over!

Literally the best Chinese or Asian restaurant I’ve been to! The vast amount of choices is a plus. The only negative thing I can think of was that they were busy and had multiple servers check on us for the same thing. Other than that, my experience was great. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. Just don’t expect service worthy of a five star restaurant!

If you like authentic Chinese food then this is a place to try. A large menu with many options you won’t find at most Chinese joints. They also have a more main stream menu if you are not into the traditional dishes. It can get pricey but if you go with multiple people and order family style it is reasonable considering the large portions. I really like the beef tripe which can be difficult to prepare, also the lobster is a stand out dish that is unlike any others I have had. If you love lobster like I do, but are in the mood for one that isn’t boiled or broiled than this is a great alternative.

Great authentic Chinese SEAFOOD! One of the best in Cincy! My coworker Bob went and ordered chicken even though it specifically says Uncle Yip’s Seafood restaurant. Their non-seafood options are nothing special; although I heard the roasted duck was good but I’ve been spoiled with really good duck from Chicago so Im a little skeptical. lobster in ginger sauce is a must get! This what uncle yip is known for! Rock salt shrimp, clams in black bean sauce, rock salt scallop and fish and tofu are all great options! They have good veggie choices as well. Dim sum is good too! Shrimp balls, crab claw, chicken feet, bbq pork buns, tripe are all good! Service is terrible, especially when they’re busy. that’s why I am only giving 4 stars instead of five.
