Don’t eat here. You’ve been warned. The worst«Hawaiian» food ever. Ordered chicken katsu curry. Worst food ever. Being from the land of Mele Kalikimaka, I think I’m a good judge at plate lunches and Hawaiian bbq. This has been my worst Hawaiian plate lunch experience. The katsu was way salty. You do not season panko or the chicken when making katsu. The mac salad was watery, pasta was overcooked and mushy, rice was blah. Oh, and the chicken had that old grease taste. After a couple of bites I had to throw it away… it was inedible. Now, after an hour, I’m sick to my stomach and sitting on the throne and feeling nauseous. Never again will I eat there. It is sad since this was the first L&L outside of Hawaii.

I remember my excitement when this location first opened. I believe it was the 1st on the mainland. All the workers looked like bruddahs cooking up food they grew up on. As each new location in SoCal opened up, it was a little disheartening to see how those franchisees just looked to putout what was on the menu but didn’t care about the quality of the dishes. Such a sad reflection of «Hawaiian plate lunch.» I guess this lack of caring has finally reached the original LA L&L. Was running late with the kids and needed to pick up something quick for them to eat as we drove home so they could shower and finish homework and still get to bed at a decent time. I called ahead and ordered 3 spam musubis and 1 chicken katsu musubi. Since I was in a rush, I didn’t have time to get cash from the bank so when I got there I paid with my debit card. $ 8 and change. As I was getting ready to leave, I asked for a little tonkatsu sauce for the musubi. The lady(only person working at the time) told me «That’s a side. It’ll cost 25¢.» I told her that I had ordered the katsu musubi, shouldn’t it come with it even if it was considered a side? She said, «No, it would only come with the katsu plate.» I asked for not a whole side, just a little to accompany the musubi. She again said, «No, I’ll have to charge you 25¢.» Now, if I did have cash, I probably would have broken off 25¢ for some sauce but again, I had no cash and wasn’t about to charge a quarter on my card. Final thoughts: What a disservice to the sign proudly displayed next to the register«Aloha spoken here». How sad is it that my 13 year old daughter who was standing next to me recognized what poor customer service the lady showed and how unreasonable it was to place the bottom line(all 25¢ of it) vs a semi-pleasant dining experience.

It took 15 minutes for my two spam musubis to arrive. Service is extraordinarily slow and the food is decent at best. I recommend picking another place to eat in the food court. I will update with a better review once I see more than one cook working in the kitchen.

The chicken katsu here come in very thin strips and are what I would consider overly fried. All batter and barely any chicken! :(Boo. Their rice is hard and stale rather than soft and fluffy and their macaroni salad has way too much mayonnaise. And they charge extra for more katsu sauce? No bueno. Ono on Colima is 100x better for Hawaiian BBQ.

For a fast food restaurant, L&L Hawaiian BBQ is the best! Me, being the simple person I am in terms of food, completely and thoroughly find satisfaction in their spam masubis. Yum.

Service here is ehh. The person at the front was polite, but he also seemed annoyed by some of my questions. The food here always comes out slower than other fast food places I’ve been to. I think it’s just one or two people actually making the food, so it’s a lot slower. Got 2BBQ chicken bowls for about $ 11 total. Took around 20 minutes for them to finish making it. So far, I’d say the portion is pretty good considering the price… Service is polite even if a little stiff… so it’s not terribly bad, I’d say give it a try. Their musubi is good! The only thing that can be improved is the time it takes for the food to come out.

The person working in the front was doing her best to do two jobs. While doing so, she seemed rushed working the cash register and calling out peoples’ orders. I just ordered spam musubi. The sushi paper is too small to wrap up so much rice. At least it tasted like it should.

Oh L&L you are an interesting one. You’re food in generally good, but not that good. I’m not expecting too much. It in the food court in the Puente Hills Mall. PH mall isn’t the best mall if you catch my drift. Anyways…to the important stuff. It looks like a standard food court food place, which is honest. You go up, assuming there isn’t a line, and order. You wait and pick it up and find a seat to eat it. So that makes the food that much important. Sadly the food is very standard. The food is fine. I usually get the Chicken Katsu and the Spam Masubi. Simple things and they are consistent with the quality. Speaking of quality it’s nothing special. It’s good but not memorable. The chicken in crispy and the sauce is good. They work well together and the rice and macaroni salad is fine. You can easily make it on your own and the same with the spam masubi. What really hurts this place is the speed. For a food court place the speed of service is pretty slow. I’ve waited ten minutes when they had no other guests. If you work at the mall and go there on your break expect to have to eat fast. Seriously inhale that stuff cause a third of your 30 minute break will be waiting for the food to come out. You can do much worse in the food court, so L&L is a good option if you want something other standard fast food, bad chinese, or overpriced pizza. It’s good but nothing mesmerizing.

They have all your commercialized Hawaiian favorites for moderate prices and portions. I opted for one of the many specials – bulkoki plate, which came with rice and an egg. I substituted the rice for a garden salad, which they had no problem with. The cook almost forgot my egg so I had to wait a little longer… and it was undercooked. Too liquid-y for overeasy. The bulkoki was mediocre. Salad is salad. The staff is very nice, which is a redeeming quality. I suppose I should just stick to the musubi and katsu next time.

What in thee world? never had spam masubi that was half dressed. when you unwrap it all the rice falls out! so you have to eat it down gradually, take a bite, pull down the saran wrap. take another bite, pull the saran wrap down a bit more. WTF! not interested! i just want to eat that damn thing and not have to work for it. ON top of that. the taste was zero star status. extra firm rice, with spam that tasted half cooked, and the seaweed was really stiff, i couldn’t take a bite into it. it was a huge piece! i asked the lady where the rest of the seaweed was and she said«it comes like that»

I ordered the Saimin w/BBQ Chicken $ 5 pretty good deal for instant noodles with pieces of chicken. I was feeling noodles, didnt know they would be the instant kind .___. Staff is friendly, but awkward; they waited for me to call their attention before they filled my order even though they saw me standing in plain sight. Not many people eat there, compared to the other Hawaiian BBQs Service – All right Parking – inside Puente Hills Mall, plenty of parking Price – reasonable

The food here is okay, considering it’s inside the food court of the Puente Hills Mall. The people take quite a while to make the food. I ordered the bbq chicken plate and it was pretty expensive. I think it was almost $ 10. The chicken is pretty tasty and they serve it with rice and macaroni. I didn’t really care for the macaroni because I think they drowned it in too much mayo. I’m a big fan of their musubis(katsu, bbq chicken, spam, portuguese sausage). They’re bigger than your typical musubi and they freshly make it. It’s only $ 2! Oh, and they also have mini meals for people with smaller appetites and saimon noodles. I’ve wanted to try their loco moco for some time, but I never see anyone ordering it. If you want some decent Hawaiian food and you’re in the mall, then go here. I think I’d rather eat at Gengis Khan right across for $ 8 and a giant box of yummy customized noodles.

I was introduced to this establishment a few years back when a friend and I were craving Asian-esque fare(i.e., something with rice), but not exactly the standard-issue stuff. Whenever these urges manifested, we turned to either Yoshinoya or this place. The business is located within the main food court, and with the recent remodeling, it’s actually a pleasant looking place to catch lunch, or a pre-movie dinner. I always get the Hawaiian BBQ Mix, which includes«a hearty mix of tasty L&L Hawaiian Barbecue beef, chicken, & short ribs». The entrees are served with rice and macaroni salad on the side. The portions are generous, so I believe you get good value for what you pay. One large soda and my BBQ mix combo came up to just under $ 10.
