I’ve been driving here from near by west Sac for almost 20+ years! We show up one day and they inform me there are no more home made tortillas! You stop serving the ONE thing that gets customers to drive out here? Insane. And to top it off the store bought tortillas they replaced it with are terrible! I’m so sad I lost my favorite place to eat! Good bye Shorty’s

Incredible breakfast food. The chili Colorado is out of this world good. All of the food is more authentic than I have found anywhere in Sac. You can definitely tell it’s all been made from scratch. You just can’t get authentic Mexican food like this anywhere else. As as added bonus they’re tortillas are so good it’s hard to stop eating them. And I highly recommend the chili Colorado and the breakfast potatoes, but really you won’t find anything bad on their menu. Shorty’s in my opinion has the best Mexican food breakfast I have ever had. Will def come back, there’s no other place like it

Why aren’t you serving flour tortillas with the dinners anymore or lunches but the food is still great and the personnel

Ground beef tacos are delicious and you have to try the fresh homemade tortillas. Out of this world.

This place screams«AUTHENTIC» So much that you might want to bring a translator if you want to order food easily! Luckily i knew the basics and was able to order successfully! We came here on mother’s day weekend and we were referred by the man at Julietta Winery, who said that he rebuilt this café after it had burned down! He told us that this place has had the same chef for 35+ years. He said that she is very people shy and never comes out, she just stays in the back and cooks all day! I ordered a burrito! Boy was it delicious! You could tell that the meat and produce was very fresh! I was a little disappointed with the size of the burrito, but was overtaken by how good it was! This place is a must try, as it’s off the beat path and truly authentic!

We had rented a house near this place for our bridal party the night of our wedding at The Old Sugar Mill. We saw this place driving in and thought it would be cute to stop for breakfast the morning after. The small, slightly hungover, group of us showed up just before breakfast ended at 11am, just in the nick of time! The service was a bit slow considering it’s a bit in the middle of nowhere. The food is good. Will I crave it, no, but it was satisfying and filing. Mostly plates of beans and rice, your protein of choice, and a side of tortillas. The prices are cheap. They also offer 6 packs of beer to go, just in case you’re wondering…

I was driving through Clarksburg and had arrived at an intersection which seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. There were fields all around and in the corner stood a small restaurant. I went inside and asked the waitress if I should set myself. She seemed to be very busy yet I only noticed 3 tables with patrons and a few people sitting at the counter. I got comfortable at a small table near the entrance along the wall and noticed a fish tank on a table by the hallway to the RR. The décor was quite simple, basic tables, and modern counter stools along the counter. I waited at least 10 minutes before I was asked if I would like to order any food. I ordered a bowl of menudo and as the waitress started to scurry away I had to call her back so I could order a cup of coffee and some water. …another 10 minutes went by and I was feeling thirsty so I walked up to the counter and kindly asked for my coffee. I was quickly disregarded as the waitress told me that she would be right with me in a moment. I waited another couple of minutes and the waitress finally brought me my coffee and I went back to my table and patiently waited for my food.(minus 1 star.) While I was waiting I started grading papers and figured this would help me pass the time. 15 minutes went by and I noticed a family walk in. They wee seated at a table 2 tables away from me and were handed menus. An additional 20 minutes went by and I watched the waitress bring food to the family that had walked in after I had been there for a while.(Minus 2 stars .) I was shocked at the terrible service at this place and was ready to grab my bag and go but I felt that I should be a good citizen and at least pay for my coffee. I walked up to the counter and asked the waitress if I could please pay for my coffee. She asked why I was leaving and I told her that I was there 30 minutes before said group of patrons arrived and I had given my order to the waitress and it was never brought to my table. I also told her that the family, who were eagerly enjoying their food, had arrived after me and were served before me. She had the nerve to tell me that they had a new cook and she was still learning. I asked the waitress if the menudo is prepared before hand. She said it was. I then asked what type of food prep is necessary for a bow of menudo as I didn’t order a hot dish that required prep. She looked at me like a deer in the headlights and said«oh.» For a moment I thought I was in the middle of a weird episode of the twilight zone… Overall thoughts: the environment is pretty cool as I like to go to places off the beaten path. The service, on the other hand… Meh, Ive experienced better. I will have to come back, however, and give this place another chance because I really want to try the menudo and I was unable to provide you with my thoughts on the food since it never made it to my table. At that time I will give an update on my experiences.

I have been going to this place since moving to west sac in 2009. I love the food and the homemade flour tortillas are amazing! Service is always great and the food does not disappoint. The only few things I don’t like is that the service is a bit slow, drinks are pricey and no free refills, and I was recently served store bought corn tortillas with my menudo. Very disappointing. But overall, great Mexican restaurant for breakfast or lunch. I highly recommended the beef burrito. My favorite thing on the menu!

I would give this place no stars if I could. Roy D. Maybe you are a family member, friend, or whatever. A tard? Get a life and stop sending nasty comments to people. I am entitled to my opinion, that’s what Unilocal is for. If you want to help the family, encourage them get some help. Instead of getting mad, just take some advice and improvise.

I love this place. The food is delicious, the service is fantastic, and its just got that down home relaxed feeling. The reviews that say you don’t get enough food couldn’t be more wrong(Must be the Super Size Me types). Prices and sizes totally correct.

Stopped in for lunch while driving around with friends checking out the delta. Came in because of their Unilocal review. I think I would like to give more stars because of the friendly service, but I just wasn’t 100% into the food I guess. It was just okay. The taco was good but my chicken enchilada had a flavor I wasn’t crazy about. Also the chips and salsa(an order consisted of 4 small round tortillas deep fried and served whole) were very good but they are a side order and not complimentary. Ummmmmmmmm scuse’ me but that is why I go to a Mexican restaurant is for the chips and salsa. Also soda came out in a can so no free refills. I was also a bit put off that our lunch for two came to 32.00 with tax and tip.

Honestly, Shorty’s La Amistad café is one of the best mexican food restaurants I have tried in a long time. The freshly homemade tortillas melt in you mouth as you eat them. It offers a gorgeous countryside surrounding. It may be somewhat of a long drive but it is worth it. When talking to one of the waitresses, she told me some of the history behind the owners of the café and it really was an amazing of two very hard working parents who raised a beautiful family. The food is outstanding with its authentic Mexican taste. The beans and rice complement each perfectly and I recommend that they not be separated. The portion sizes are different compared to the sizes that we are so used to today, but I think less is more. They also have daily specials. This is a great place to try when you are looking for a new experience.

We have stopped here a few times over the years. Like the other posters say; VERY small portions. The home made flour tortillas are very good; they are heavy; so two with your tiny meal will fill you up enough to get you home. I don’t really care for flour tortillas; I would much rather have corn. Like others have said; a little pricy for what you get. Today I had what they call Chili Colorado; it is red Chili Verdi! LOL I prefer Chili Verdi; so that was fine. Yes as others say too; not much flavor. They do not give you chips or salsa. Fast friendly service.

Went yesterday to Shorty’s(that is how the Locals know this place) so if you ask where La Amistad is they look at you funny and say everyone around here goes to Shortys. The sign in front proclaims itself as Shorty’s La Amistad and even the menu says«Don’t be confused — La Amistad is also known as Shortys!». So, now you know… Food was good. Not the best mexican fare I’ve seen but not bad. I had the Chili Colorado which was very good but the beans were more ranch beans with a little bit of unmelted cheese on the top. My companions had combination plates(ground beef not shredded beef). The food was good but, as one person noted, rather small in portion size(maybe we are all used to the oversized portions?). The biggest dissapointment for me was the ambiance is very«diner». I was expecting more in such a quaint location and close to the Old Sugar Mill wine tasting place. Next time I’m going to insist my group goes to Husicks which is clearly a 5 star deli and country store and close by.

The food was very good, the only thing is that the portion size was not what we expected. If you are a hearty eater you may need a side of beans or something. Otherwise we were pleased with our meal.

On my way to visit the Delta on a Sunday morning, I came across this Café. The waitress was very friendly and recommended the Sunday Menudo. To my surprise it ended up being the best menudo I had ever tasted. The homemade flour tortillas were out of this world. This little restaurant is worth the drive down to Clarksburg, especially on Sundays for their superb Menudo. I highly recommend La Amistad Café.

I went to this place over the weekend and the first think i noticed was how clean it was. maybe overclean. it had a Pine Sol smell. anyhow, we ordered breakfast and it was decent. nothing to write home about. the homemade tortillas were pretty good though. But the lunch menu looked good and they had daily specials i’d like to try out. Oh, the bathrooms were spotless. probly the best bathroom i’ve been to in years! Go figure.
