Precooked, warmed-over, barely spiced sauce, moderately smoked ribs, with canned anonymous beans, food service crackers, cheap hamburger bun«bread,» and over-iced tea(where’s the tea?)? Really? This isn’t even the best in Clarksdale, much less mid-Delta. At least the onion rings were freshly cooked… but in old oil and from frozen food service junk. Tamales were 2 out of 5; okay but again nothing special, not in the tamale-mad Delta and not even the best within a 4-block radius. I’m so sorry that this is the disappointing decay of a once notable joint. Don’t bother going now unless they’re family. Since 1924? So what. Jan and Michael Stern’s Road Food review is now an embarrassing mistake. It’s too bad that Unilocal reviewers here want to be part of a past phenomenon more than discriminating diners. Don’t bother with Abe’s unless your perceived social needs exceed your taste buds.

No. Vinegar cold slaw with no mayo. All the mayo was in the potato salad. My wife and I thought it was nasty. Great location though. Bout it.

yup. ok I had a pulled pork sandwich and remembered what I’d been missing despite the recent proliferation of bbq joints in Nola. they aren’t this. the meat is tender is juicy; they chop it roughly once the butt is smoked then reheat to order on the flattop so it gets nice charred bits, too. the sauce is a deep rich color, Memphis style, and slathered generously on the sandwich. it’s also topped with a vinegar-based slaw, which wakes up the rest of the flavors and adds a nice tang. the baked beans are great too, with pulled pork mixed in. French fries are nothing to write home about but I guess that’s because I didn’t realize I was supposed to get chili cheese on them lmao. y’all won’t be disappointed! also my server was v nice and their sweet tea hit the spot

Fairly good BBQ. Coleslaw is vinegar based, no Mayo. It was good if your taste likes that flavor. Decent prices for portion. Food is served on paper plates and plastic silverware. A no frills place with good BBQ. I had the ribs which were very meaty and tender!

Ah, can’t they all be like this: I get out of my car and catch the whiff of some,“good ol’ Mississippi barbecue.” The service was sublime and the food excellent as always! The barbecue was traditionally sophisticated and delicious. The sauce is very original and is of its own unique taste. All in all this is definitely a place to stop for all barbecue lovers.

Road tripping through Mississippi we stopped into Abe’s for Sunday night dinner at the crossroads of 49⁄61. Couldn’t go past the ribs and rib tips — both were excellent. Served wet(with sauce on it already), the meat was tender and fell off the bones. Meals came with beans, bread and slaw. The slaw had a vinegar(rather than mayo) base, which some in our party really enjoyed. Desserts were nothing fancy(pecan pie and lemon meringue pie) but were tasty and a nice way to end a BBQ dinner. Server was quietly friendly and efficient.

This place is great. I had the special – rib tips. They were awesome, and so was the slaw. To be honest, I’m just not sold on these delta tamales though. They’re good, but I’d stick to the bbq.

Abe’s is by the far the most unique and best baroque I have ever had! The pork is fabulous! The chili fries are to die for!!! The tamales are the best ever and I’ve eaten many! Even the ice in the drinks was that good crunchy kind! Excellent!!!

Abe’s benefits from a prime location right at the blues crossroad and every other person in town sending tourists to it because it would be rude not to mention that it’s actually not very good. There are plenty of BBQ places from wherever you’re from that are better than Abe’s though it has a commendable sauce. It’s very expensive considering the low-to-mid quality of the food, and that tamales are okay. I’d recommend Riverboat BBQ instead.

3 things to order here… Big Abe BBQ Pork, Chili Cheese Fries & Tamales. Classic BBQ at it’s best, you’ll smell it the second you get out of your car. The tamales have to be hand made and cooked in this amazing Mole sauce. The Big Abe has three slices of bread, slaw and great tasting pork. If you order the Chili Cheese Fries keep the napkins handy, the chili reminds me of Skyline. A great place to spend the lunch hour.

Good BBQ. Representative of the area. Had the ribs. Perfectly cooked, falling off the bone. Great smokey flavor. Tried the tamales. Nothing special here, but solid. They were better with the chili than plain.(Just my personal preference.) Very good BBQ sauce, but unlike Kansas City, if you are used to something really sweet.(I don’t care for the really sweet stuff.)

I went down to the crossroad, tried to flag a ride. While I was waiting I stumbled on to Abe’s Barbeque. They have been serving it up since 1924. Abe’s is a no nonsense place. You go in and place your order at the counter. The menu is on a sign overhead. Then they bring the food to you at your seat. We tried the pork Barbeque. It was pretty solid, but I have definitely had better. The slaw was unique, not sweet at all. And yes, this is the famous crossroad of song and stories.

sorry Abes I wasn’t that happy with your stuff. the décor is great it was busy with local people. I ordered BBQ pork got BBQ beef very small portions for the price. also ordered the beans came in a very small Styrofoam cup this is a totally paper and plastic restaurant. the beans tasted like doctored up van camp pork and beans. we were hoping for a special local type of restaurant that didn’t happen. sorry folks the BBQ sauce was very vinegar I wish I had not put it on my little sandwich had to eat it as that was all I ordered. I left wondering why there were so many locals there as I didn’t feel it was a very good value.

I ate at this bbq restaurant based on asking a sheriff where is some good bbq. The restaurant is a nice neighborhood style bbq. You can dine-in, pick up or to go. The person who worked the registered who seemed as if he was the boss was very kind and knows everyone. A lot of cops come here and now I see why the sheriff director to this location. The waiter was busy but attentive. The drinks are fee refill. I order rib tips which tasted ok.

You know I’m the guy who usually passes on «local legends» as far as restaurants; too many seem to be resting on their laurels of decades ago, and I’m usually disappointed. Like Stanich’s in Portland, or Dick’s Hamburgers in the Seattle area. Happy to report that’s not the case with Abe’s Bar-B-Q in Clarksdale, MS, dishing out smoked grub and other eats for the past 90 years. Located at the famous«crossroads» immortalized in song by Eric Clapton, it’s the location where blues guitarist Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil to give him history changing talent. Abe’s has a relatively short menu of BBQ sandwiches, including pork, beef, and ham. A few other things like burgers and fried chicken round out the menu, with sides of beans, fries, and slaw. Sandwiches are offered in regular and large size, and usually served with a dab of sauce and a mount of cole slaw on flattened version of a hamburger bun. The slaw is a simple affair, but very tasty, with only cabbage, salt, pepper, vinegar and corn oil as ingredients, so sez the cook. I rolled through Clarksdale on a recent expedition, and was sad to note that I arrived at the restaurant an hour prior to opening. Seeing my salivating face peering in the window, though, they opened up and said they’d serve me.(Southern hospitality). Went with the large BBQ ham sandwich; my navigator grabbed a half a chicken. We both opted for a side of possibly the best baked beans on the planet, and our entrees were superb, of course. There’s a ton to do and see in this part of Mississippi, including many stops if you’re a blues fan, or are curious about the birthplace of Kermit the Frog. But be sure to have at least one meal at Abe’s to make your trip a truly memorable experience.(Scroll down to see their menu).

Abe’s has by far the best bar b q in the South. I always get the bar b sandwich with a side of bar bq beans or fries. Clarksdale was where I was born and now I live in Tennessee. I have eaten at a lot of bar b q restaurants in the south like in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. However, none of them comes close to Abe’s. When I go home to see my parents in Cleveland, ms I will stop by Abe’s to buy their bar b q sauce. I will even go by my local bar b q restaurant and order a bar b q sandwich to pick up. When they ask what kind of sauce, I say none but when I get home, I put Abe’s bar b q sauce on it, ha ha. This closely reminds me of this Abe’s restaurant. They have great friendly service too as they never let you see the bottom of your drink. If you are a tourist, stop by here.
