I am from out of town but come into St. Louis several times a year and this is our go to place. The food is consistently excellent. The pork tenderloin is amazing. Winner, winner chicken dinner is also a really good choice. Casual setting even with white table cloths.

Great food and great service. The chopped vegetable salad is my favorite at lunch. The crawfish tail salad and the peppercorn beef filet are wonderful for dinner. Love the place!

I know a lot of people who love this place, but it was my third time and still a mixed experience. The atmosphere is nice and service was good, but neither of us loved our meal, although the chopped salad was excellent. Found the fish to be dry and the soup too salty. Maybe we just have to try again?

Really like the food here! Our family eats here all of the time. I think we have tried everything on the menu. We enjoy the casual and comfortable atmosphere. The service is always good and the servers are nice. Definitely try the blueberry bread pudding if available!

Located in the heart of Clayton, this seems to be one of the go-to places for business lunches and where locals eat. First impression: promptly greeted by when we walked inside and asked to see a menu. The hostess then sat another party, and when she came back to us(we were just going to ask if there was a table outside), a customer stepped up and started talking to the hostess. Granted, that individual was very rude, but instead of the indicating she’d be right with her as she was getting ready to seat us, the hostess turned her attention to the other party. We just stood there a bit taken aback. Then a host(manager? Owner?) sat us at a table outside, asked us if he could get us something to drink, etc., all the standard stuff. Second impression: The gentleman that seated us brought our waters and took our orders. Friendly? Personable? Not so much. Very automated and uninterested; almost like it was beneath him to tend to customers. Our lunch included the Rotini pasta salad with chicken on bed of greens, and the spinach salad. Both were beautifully presented and very good. The rotini pasta must be a favorite and we noticed several other customers enjoying it, too. Overall, I would recommend Almonds. I think the customer service could be improved, but the food we had was good.

I have to say that I was excited to be going back to Almonds after not going there in over a year. I was craving their pan fried chicken. The food was great as usual. Unfortunately the service was lacking this night though. We had reservations but still had to wait for 45 minutes. Then the waitress was gruff and not pleasant. While I will probably go back sometime, it will definitely be awhile.

People think it’s a stuffy place — not at all and the food is fabulous! I dined here years ago and loved it, but never went back. Why, I’ll never know! This place is a secret gem. The atmosphere is warm and quaint. It’s a limited menu, but everything is good so simply pick one and you’ll be happy. We had tuna, trout, scallops and shrimp at our table. Each one was better than the other. Even the basic salad was quite possibly the best I’ve ever had. I ate it without looking up to see what anyone else got. I think they ate their soup and salad just as happily as I did. Don’t be afraid. Go try this place and get a window view if you can. This time I’m not waiting years to go back!

Boyfriend’s grandparents took us here before the symphony last week. They had been several times before, but we never had. The atmosphere is very pleasant and cozy and definitely on the intimate/romantic side. I was a little thrown by the simple chalkboard menu on the table but OK. Our server also explained it to us — everything basically comes with the same side, and there is a soup, risotto, and pasta special. I got the tomato-spinach-parmasean soup of the day to start. Boyfriend got their chop salad which was really good — kind of different with the right amount of crunch! I got the salmon, and the side was mashed potato with string beans which was rrrreeeaalllyyy good! Love mashed potatoes. BF got the tuna, and both grandparents got scallops. Everyone enjoyed their meals so much, but we still managed to share a slice of cheesecake for dessert — yum!

Good atmosphere, good food and great service. This is a good choice to go to on a date; everything from the service to the food is nicely done in an un-hurried and relaxed way and the interior décor is on the romantic side. Limited options for vegetarians but the Pasta Pleaser is excellent. The chopped salad was also excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable and enjoyable, which makes a huge difference in the dining experience. It was the kind of dining experience that made me want to stay and chat with friends over an after-dinner drink(not many places make me feel that way). There is plenty of(free) parking behind the restaurant if you go around the block.

Almond’s is definitely a great pick! Went here on a Friday night(had reservations) and got a great seat by the window. The staff was friendly and our waitress was very knowledgable. I had the salmon ravioli appetizer, the blackened tilapia(the mashed potatoes that came with it were YUM), and for dessert we tried the flourless chocolate cake and the apple pie. Everything was SO delicious and I can’t wait to go back there again sometime!

I Have been to Almonds countless numbers of times over last 10+ years. It has consistently been comfortable in every way. The atmosphere is intimate, staff is friendly, can usually get a table without reservations. The food is great and very reasonably priced. Have tried almost everything on the menu. Tuna and fried chicken are favorites. I Always get the gumbo. The cocktails are well made. I have been to almost every restaurant in St. Louis at least once, but Almonds is one of only a few that we keep going back to routinely. Surprised that there are any unfavorable reviews posted! Most everyone I have brought there has been impressed and has become a repeat customer.

Lunched here a few weeks ago with a small group of coworkers. I had the grilled veggie sandwich with chips as my side. The sandwich was unexpectedly delicious(I only say that because when it comes to veggies sandwiches, I feel like a lot of local restaurants don’t get too creative)! There was grilled asparagus, among other veggies with cheese encrusted bread. It was unique blend of flavors for a veggie sandwich and the perfect portion size for lunchtime. Service was wonderful and our waitress was accommodating about our request for separate checks. I will definitely keep this on the list for lunch options in Clayton!

Décor: I can see why/how people may see that this place looks a bit upscale, with its dimmer lighting, white tableclothes and chalkboard menu. I was dressed pretty casual and it seemed fine. It’s a nice size restaurant, not too big, not too small. Service: Fine, if not a bit slow(complete opposite to what others said about hurrying us?) We had to wait a while to get our waitress to take our orders and then a little longer to get our food. Food: Nothing to rave about. I got the pan fried chicken, which I thought was fine but nothing spectacular. My friend got the gumbo, which is a great deal, but he thought it was also nothing spectacular. Bottom Line: While this is a fine establishment, I’d prefer to go somewhere else to eat just because I like other places better.

Love the food and the ambiance at Almond’s — I’ve tried several entrees, but my fave is still the fried chicken. Others with me have raved about the gumbo. My one(big) complaint is that they rush you through your meal. I HATE when restaurants do this. You know, someone clears your salad plate as you are still chewing the last bite. Almost immediately, another person sets your entrée down in front of you. I still have half my entrée, my companion has several bites left, and they come by to ask if they can clear his plate. After taking one bite of our dessert, the server set the check down. And when we push back our chairs to stand up, they are already clearing and cleaning the table. If it weren’t for this issue, Almond’s would have five stars from me, but this has happened enough times that it really detracts from the experience.

While there are some cajun/creole-inspired dishes, I wouldn’t necessarily call this a cajun/creole place. The restaurant’s website said their dress code was«just wear clothes,» but I found that most people here are dressed quite nicely, so I was a little uncomfortable arriving casually-dressed. The atmosphere is unique — nice touch of lighting and trees inside the building. Looks very cool. White tablecloths and most people are drinking wine. The food was pretty good, but I felt it was quite highly priced for what we received.

In the 3+ years that I worked in Clayton, never made to Almond’s — it always seemed too fancy for my hot dog loving ways. Turns out that this place *is* a tad upscale but nothing that the average pants wearing, wipe your nose with a tissue Joe couldn’t handle :) Called ahead the day before to make a reservation(again, was under the impression that they needed to know these things ahead of time) and the table they saved for us was super cool and comfy. Instead of regular dining chairs, we both sat in padded armchairs. Cool! Soup of the day was gumbo, which we had to try due to the impending Mardi Gras celebrations. Spicy and hearty. For lunch, I had the BBQ sandwich, which was a little too heavy on the BBQ sauce for my taste but I’m really picky about how I like my BBQ sammies. It was my bad for not specifying how I wanted it… My dining companion had the cheeseburger and practically had a food orgasm at the table. It was just that good! Dessert was an added bonus — a chocolate lava torte with a side of vanilla ice cream. Yum! I could eat that all day! Our service was exceptional! In a restaurant that has actual linen tablecloths, you always wonder if the staff is going to be snobbish or rude. Not at all! Our server was friendly, funny and attentive, but not«in your face». I would go back just to have him wait on us again. Meals here aren’t much pricer than Companion next door or anything that you’d pick up to-go at Straubs… good to know in case I want to take a former co-worker or friend out to lunch!
