My husband and I ate here on New Year’s Eve. Our server was very nice but it was the worst sushi I have ever eaten. We order several types and they were all terrible. This restaurant is bad need of a deep cleaning.

Food is amazing. I don’t know what they do to the carrots but they are the best I have ever tasted. Small place with great food. The service can to challenging at times. Regardless I will still give them 5 stars because the food is the best Hibachi around hands down.

I have not been able to leave the toilet since I ate sushi there last night! I didn’t even half finish my fish because it looked old, fake and slimy. and I’m paying dearly for it

I love getting the bento box combo here. You get a plate(Hibachi Chicken/Steak, etc.) with ½ serving of a sushi roll, a dessert, and a drink for around $ 7. There is an option to exchange the dessert for a complete sushi roll. The food is always good, including the sushi. The sushi isn’t the top-notch style as some of the fancier restaurants, but it is still enjoyable. Service is good as well and the staff are personable.

Terrible customer service, menus are elementary and silverware wrapped in plastic. This place is becoming a joke! Sushi used to be good. Management needs to step up.

Second time I’ve walked in here, today’s the first time I actually stayed to eat. I’ll never be back. Lame menu, shotty service, little beer selection. Maybe I’m spoiled eating sushi from the west coast in California and Oregon, but cmon… We’re not THAT far from the ocean, the sushi chefs here just aren’t on point. Both my rolls(raw fish) the rice was warm!!! Where they do that at!!! Yuck!!! They were poorly rolled with no concern for visual appeal of the plate. I had to ask for wasabi and chop sticks after I was served and I waited so long for my check. Joco… Y’all got to make these establishments have standards, don’t support sub par eateries. Smh. Don’t waste your time or money here.

I’ve never had bad service here. They are always accommodating and fast, but I’ve only done take out and not dine in. Based on what I’m used to though, I’d say this is very«watered down» Japanese food. Vegetables are not fresh and are instead kind of mushy and limp, shrimp tastes kind of funky and chicken is just there, no special taste. Sushi rolls are small and basic, but they are pretty cheap, so I guess you can’t expect much. Their prices are reasonable, but is pay a little more for better quality, which is why I usually choose to go elsewhere. Nothing here makes me crave the food or makes it taste like something I couldn’t do better myself. Also just an FYI, the sweet carrots that come with dishes are SUPER sweet, to the point that anytime we eat there my mom and I seriously wonder if it’s actually yams and they haven’t changed to menu to say so. Also, not a bad thing, but just know that the spring rolls taste more like lumpia than a spring roll.

My cute little blonde waitress was so polite & so apologetic. I feel bad that she was working there. The prices were atrocious & apparently the manager stopped putting toppings on the salad to save money so I was given lettuce & ranch. my waitress was also hosting, answering the phone & making sushi. She was the only one working. It was sad. I had been there before in previous years & it has never been this horrible.

It makes me so sad to write this, because Bonsai used to be my favorite little spot. We kept trying it and hoping it would be okay, but every time we went we saw the sanitation grade drop. The employees children were always running around and playing loud video games in the dining room, and the staff wasn’t very attentive. I can deal with that for good food, however. But on our last trip, I had a roach crawl across the table and I had to say goodbye forever. It’s really unfortunate…

What’s the point of calling in an order if you don’t fix it until I arrive? The food is mediocre at best. Lack of options in clayton is the only reason I’ve been here more than once. The restaurant has a sewage smell that they’re trying to pretend they don’t smell.

The food it is at best average. There is nothing unique or exclusive about this dining experience. Given the competition in Clayton, it maybe worth a try since it’s menu is healthier than the typical burgers and fries. The menu does give you choices in constructing your plate but those choices are rather limited. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about but it was not bad either.

worst service I have ever received in the area. My fiancé and I went to this place because we were in the mood for some sushi, When we entered no one at the door to great us, when she showed up she escorted us to a table and sat us with menus. After what felt like 15 min I asked some one were was our waitress. She came soon after and said«I’m sorry she didn’t tell me there was people sitting in my table» mean while I was looking at her eating with what appeared to be her significant other. We asked for some drinks got those. Then we ordered some sushi, and the dinner at the same time. Normally when you do that at a restaurant like this they would bring the sushi out first. After another 15 min she brought us out the soup and said,(this is funny) «the soup was cold so I had to put them in the microwave to warm them up for you».(WHAT) ok so I figured it could not get worse. I food comes out with out sushi. So I get up to tell them not to make the sushi. Then when we were done I get the check, surprise when it is all wrong. OMG I would never return there for food. Not even a beer or sushi worst service I received in the area.

Our last outing here led to some confusion. Called in an order which was messed up on entry… resulting in only half of the order we placed being entered. The waitress/hostess who took the order seemed distracted. My wife confirmed the order before hanging it up. When I got there to pick it up, only half the order was there… not much. They offered to make the other half, but I was going to have to wait around for it. If I had wanted to wait, I would have just eaten in. Not super happy about it. The half order we got was good. But since it was only a roll or two, not enough to keep us both from picking something up. Gotta drop a star for that one.

This rating should be 0. We sat down, noticed the table was palpably greasy and waited several minutes with no service. Bailed when we discovered a living cockroach in a folded napkin. Apparently the clean napkin was more habitable than the surrounding environment.

The food here is actually still very good, as far as I know. The review is being updated because of service. The last time I graced this joint, it was around 8:00pm. We were the only people in here, and I’m sure the crew felt like they were slowly winding down for closing. I get that. This should make their job really easy, though. Very little to take care of. Very little to do, except with the annoyance of perhaps not shutting down the grill when you want. We were seated and drink orders were taken. Thankfully, we both ordered water. There was… a kid? A toddler? I don’t know what to call it. A three or four year old kid… just milling around. He obviously belonged to someone who worked there, but no one was supervising him. I don’t think your child should ever be at your place of business for babysitting, but if they are you at least need to keep the kid away from customers. This little guy was running around, screaming. TOUCHINGME(yes, I found it that horrific. I’m not the biggest fan of strange children). Jumping around in the booth behind us. It got truly bad in a very short amount of time, and none of the staff were paying the kid any mind at all. After about five minutes of dealing with my new friend, with no staff member coming to claim him or apologize for the disturbance, we thanked our lucky stars that all that was on the table was two glasses of water and nothing had been ordered that actually cost any money. I did something I rarely do. I walked out of an establishment. I’m not going to trash Bonsai for this incident, but I did feel the need to come back in and dock them a dot for the terrible slip. I hope they leave the kid at home from now on.

The food is here is mediocre. We mostly come here for the bogo sushi on Wednesdays. The sushi isn’t outstanding but its not that bad for the deal.

When moving to Clayton from Wilmington, I was sure I would have to travel to Raleigh for good Japanese cuisine. Well, as it turns out, I was wrong. My mom took me to Bonzai for the first time in August and I have been back multiple times since then. The staff is friendly, though they sometimes seem a little confused. The food is excellent, portion sizes are huge, and they leave the white sauce on the table! I’m sure I’ll be back, probably this weeken.

We went back again and the service was MUCH faster. The food was very good and the staff is always friendly. I was alittle disappointed that they sped up the service, it was fun to sit and share eachother’s sushi and spring rolls while drinking plum wine on that first visit! I do recommend this place if you want Sushi in the Clayton area, and for those who don’t like Sushi, they can order a steak and salad. Everyone will like the Spring Rolls.
