When I saw a Gyro’s and Mediterranean food and Clayton I guess I should have known better. There was no lamb on the upright broiler it looked like it had never been used and the meat for the gyro came from a drawer which was chilled, looked old and covered in lard. Put on the grill to be reheated. the rolled grape leaves were several days old, mushy and tasteless. I was hoping my first review would be better.

How did they get a 99.5 score? I was just in there, my first time and let me just tell you. These reviews must be old or nobody looked closely like I do when I go to eat somewhere. The windows were so nasty you couldn’t even see through them, the tables were all sticky, and I mean all of them, there was a discusting odor in the place, the coke and drink machines looked like someone threw drinks all over them with dripping sticky residue, the sandwich bar where they serve the food was also covered in the same sticky brown residue as well as the walls. This place was so bad I had to turn around and walk out. I could not even imagine how many bugs were hiding b/c of how dirty and discusting this sub place is. How can anyone eat in a sickening environment like this?

Frozen food, pictures of frozen product on door. Worst gyro I ever had. Was not from a spit but frozen product. Better places in Clayton to get a sandwich

This place is great! Friendly and great food. Accommodating to picky kids(hot dogs and nuggets and fries) and bangin lamb gyros and delicious baklava. The owner brought our food to our table and was courteous and welcoming. Hands down one of our favorite local spots.

Eh. Just ok for the food. I had the spicy chicken sandwhich. Unfortunately not hot or spicy at all. It was not bad, but not spetacular. The French fries were good. The facilities are in need of repair and it just didn’t seem overly clean. I will probably not return.

Sorry, went here for lunch last week. Looking for new spot in Clayton. Ordered chicken parmesan on spaghetti, half way through eating it noticed that some of the cheese was moldy. GROSS Needless to say I will never be going back. Too bad the people seemed nice but at a restaurant the food is most important part especially food safety. Update: I sincerely appreciate the owner’s apology. The fact remains this was my honest experience at the restaurant.

What a nice little place! I went here based on other Unilocal reviews, and I’m glad I did. A good Gyro, made with proper ‘Donner’ meat, and what tastes like shop made tzatziki sauce. Chunky and tasty. The sandwich collection is all the usual suspects, but with the added Mediterranean choices like kebab(and the gyro I mentioned). So far, everything has been tasty. Here’s the really nice part: this shop is owner operated, a lot of the stuff is made in house, and they take an obvious pride in doing it well, and finding that little bit of extra flavor that makes their food something unique, as any good restaurant does. The quality is all there. The care is there. The pride is there. Go get a sandwich :) And let me add, whoever the nice lady is that works the counter is about as friendly a person I’ve seen in that capacity. I don’t believe it was the standard customer schmooze… I really think that she is a genuinely nice and kind person. Like I said, go get a sandwich!

Very good sandwhiches and because they are Egyptians, they make a mean Gyro, and grape leaves– yum! Havent been disappointed about any of their items so far(except dont get the saled, its just glorified sandwich toppings).

I used to frequent the Jersey Mike’s that occupied this building formerly. This joint is a step up. Now, it’s clean, bright and welcoming. Plus the food is very good. As you can tell, I rated the place 4*. Just so you know my criteria for sandwich shops: Subway is a 2*, Jersey Mike’s is a 3*, and Gandolfos(Smithfield, NC) is a 5*. Originally had a hard time finding the menu, but called the store, and was immediately provided with the web address(it’s ). The bread, as one person put it earlier, is good. I had the white, and my wife had the wheat. The sandwiches themselves are a good balance of toppings. I prefer mine a bit heavier on the meat(and would be willing to pay a buck or two extra for that option). All the toppings were fresh, and delicious. No, they don’t offer the variety that a Subway does, but then again, all of Subway’s toppings taste like styrofoam… so it really doesn’t matter how many you put on. My one little letdown was that the cheesecake wasn’t really NY Style. It had more of a caramel taste to it. You could tell that it was dethawed from frozen. I’ll probably skip that option next time. Worth the visit, and your money. I can’t wait to try some of their Gyros. They had the grill fired up when I came in. Guess what? Your Philly Cheese Steaks won’t be microwaved here. Good food, and value for the money.

I stumbled upon this sandwich shop while working in Clayton this week. I happened to be in the strip mall and my tummy was growling, luckily, St. George’s was right on the corner so I decided to give it a shot. This place is all about the bread! The bread is made in the shop, fresh, every day. I ordered a turkey club which was topped with fresh veggies that tasted like I had just cut them in my own kitchen. It is set-up to order your sandwich, pay, and dine or take-out, similarly to other sandwich shops. I ordered my sandwich, chips, and a drink and it was around $ 6. Good deal, good food, and good day to find a coolio sandwich shop in an area that is filled with chains!
