It’s cheap, it’s fast and the service is superb! We love this place! The ladies in here are incredible and very sweet and my son always has a good time in here. Great lil family place for simple meals.

Not much to it. Stars aren’t for negative reasons. But for selection. Love the prices love the food. But it’s a quick fix café that thrives on local regular customers. And there is nothing wrong with that. But to sit here and compare a 3 star review for jones and a 3 star review for let’s say the Cleveland ale house. Is apples and oranges. If you want a cheap VALUE burger or dog. This is your place. If you want a beer and a Ruben go to the Cleveland ale house.

Such a cute little place to eat. Great with the kids, fast, good food and priced right. I have recommended to several people who have gone and loved it too!

This place is great, pure & simple… as Southern as a row of collards and as delicious as their tea. No frills + Bright Leaf Hot Dogs= Scrumptiousness Infinitum… or for the layperson… Damn good eats! I am actually considering taking their cole slaw via IV, seriously… The service was swift and courteous as well, and you can’t help but like the small town ambiance, it just can’t be beat. I hope I can make it to an age as some of the old-timers who probably been patrons since the beginning in 1958, I really mean it!

Oh. My. Gah. This place has the best hot dogs and cole slaw and chili and French fries and sweet tea. I gain weight just thinking about the food but it’s oh so worth it. I love the remodel and I am glad that it’s staying in the family.

My husband has been coming here since he was a kid and says they are the worlds best hot dogs. In my opinion they are the best red hot dog you can get. Fries are standard and sweet tea is very good. I had a cheeseburger once and didn’t like it so we always get hot dogs. My husband gets them«all the way with slaw» which is mustard, chili, onions, slaw. I get ketsup, mustard, slaw.

Another on the list of ‘how have I gone this long without reviewing this?’ I was raised on this stuff. It was an amazing treat on Saturdays as a kid. The luster wore off a little as I aged, and I began to view it less as a magical lunch and more as a greasy indulgence that’s going to be delicious for a while but ultimately will make me feel like I’m dying within a couple of hours. Enough about the masochism of eating extremely greasy things, though. Let’s get down to it: * Those red Bright Leaf hot dogs. Accept no substitutes. The dye will probably give us all a third eyeball one day; I’m not sure what’s in it. I don’t want to know. The hot dog is too delicious. * Burgers are middling, but become amazing with the addition of chili. Seriously, put chili on everything you get. If you don’t add chili to both your burgers and dogs, you’re a fool. You’re a fool and you can’t sit on the stool next to me in Jones Lunch. Go eat on the sidewalk. * Fries are tasty. Usually. They changed them up a couple of years ago, dismissing their tasty krinkle fries and experimenting with bland straight ones. I –think– they had relented and put the old ones back on the menu on my last visit, though. I honestly can’t recall, which means I’m due for another visit very soon. They lose their 5 star rating, and put their 4 in jeopardy, with service. I hope this has improved, but through the years I’ve always got the feeling that as a family business with a lot of loyal customers, they rely on family to work there and don’t really care if they’re doing a good job or not as long as the food is good. This has always meant that you either get a rushed waitress or some sullen kid who looks like he’d rather be skateboarding with his friends than bringing you a hot dog. The food is good, guys, but service is important. Make those grumpy kids clean out some grease traps instead of dealing with customers.

My father was raised on this food and he introduced me to it when I was young. I regularly will travel a whole state over just to get a hotdog and burger and fries from this little gem of a place. Never been up early enough for their breakfast, but the locals tell me that’s where they really shine.

Oh I seriously love it. My parents have been eating here since before I was born and now out is my sons favorite place. There is nothing healthy for you here, but it is no worse than mcdonalds. go at high noon and they erl be slammed. Any other time and you should get decent service from the hard working folks there. Leave them a goods tip. Best place in clayton to go if you really want to get a feel for the town. Order 2 hot dogs all the way and ½ order of chili cheese fries.

Don’t think about eating healthy or counting your calories when you go here. You can order Hot Dogs, Grilled Cheese, Pimento Cheese, Burgers, Fries, Sweet Iced Tea, Sodas and the like. But why get anything but the Hot Dogs and Fries? Steamed Buns, Cheese, Chili, Onions, and Slaw. Crinkle Fries. As Fred B says, it is classic old school. Please see his pictures posted here, they really say it all about the food and atmosphere. Expect to take a little time to get your order in and the food out(they are fast and efficient here but very busy) and a short wait in line at the counter to pay your bill. But don’t get your shorts in a bunch, this is the kind of diner that takes you back in time when everyone wasn’t in such a dang hurry. Enjoy it.

Classic old school, small town diner serving breakfast, plates at lunch, sandwiches, and some of the very best chili dogs you will find — anywhere. These are the traditional neon red weiners, and there very well may not be an ounce of beef of any kind in them. The bun is soft, almost gooey, but it is the chili that makes this a great hot dog. This is a very thick, meaty chili, much like that at Green’s Lunch in Charlotte — the result is a very heavy, very tasty dog. We ordered one all the way, and another without slaw, and both were excellent. I probably liked the slawless dog a little more without the sweetness to mute the taste of the chili. Green’s is my reference point for Southern Chili Dogs in this area, and Jones’ dog is almost that good. Service is fast and friendly; prices are reasonable. I came for the chili dog, and that is all I can speak to, but they are worth a visit if hot dogs are you thing, as they are mine.

It ain’t fancy but it is good! How often is that said about a place to eat? Jones is all that and more. Owners in the kitchen, locals of all ages and all types of backgrounds at the tables. Can’t beat the hot dogs if you like dogs. Boiled and steamed buns. Ask for crispy fries, they will cook them special. Wonderful stick to your ribs breakfast. Been going there for 20 years every chance I can.

First of all, there is no longer smoking allowed in NC, so youre good to go. This is an old diner from 1958, very nastalgic with Coke signs all over and red and white table cloths. It specializes in red hotdogs southern style. With chili, cole slaw, mustard, onions or whatever. They also have breakfast. Ahgain, it is a diner, and it is not fancy. But the place is full of locals and is always packed. We each got 2 dogs with chili and slaw and crinkle cut fries. Oh and SWEET tea. It was yummy and fun, you may want a picture or 2. The servce was okay, but I think there were only 2 servers for the 30 tables, so get up and get some more tea yourself!

The place is old and if you hate smoking, don’t go. You can not get away from the smoke in there. The hotdogs are expensive. The service is good though. Food is good if you stick with hotdogs and hamburgers. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. –Updated 4÷14÷10−− Now that smoking in restaurants is illegal in N.C., this place is not as bad anymore. No smoke makes the food taste a bit better.
