After reading some of the reviews here I thought, are they going to the same place I do? I have found all the ladies working behind the counter very friendly and helpful. Must be a Southern thing. The hot dogs are great. The hamburgers are not prepackaged frozen, I’ve watched them make them by hand. The very good, also. A burger, hot dog, chips, and a glass bottle of Coke makes a delicious all American meal. The owner is big on donating time and money to local charities & causes. i.e. MS walk

I used to be a serious frequenter of this establishment when I was a school teacher in Kenly and living in Garner. I drove by this place twice a day so it was nothing for be to pop in here for one reason or another 3 or more times a week. I would often get gas, pop inside, grab a drink and a few hot dogs for a quick dinner before heading home. Even as a regular customer I found the ladies that worked there were usually kind of rude, but I thought, «hey, they are old and this place is always busy. I’d be rude too.» People are in and out non stop ordering food, getting gas, and anything else from the convenient store. Anyway. I hadn’t been through there in a long time and decided to go back by there for old times sake and get one of those cheap hot dogs I used to love so much. Well they’ve totally made some great improvements to the interior of the place, giving it a much needed facelift. It looks really nice in there after years of the same old thing. Unfortunately, I saw the same faces behind the counter, short tempered and rude. Worst of all, the prices had almost more than doubled. 4 hotdogs, a double cheeseburger, drink, and chips costs me a whopping 20 bucks. The food was the same quickly thrown together cheap stuff it always had been. Then it hit me. This place is truly caught up in its own hype. What a terrible waste. It used to just be a hole in the wall gas station, serving up hot dogs and that gave it something special… now, I just don’t know. The simple truth is that this isn’t the only place serving up that kind of dog, but it is the only place with such a limited menu, rude staff, and inflated price. There is a Snoopy’s at 40⁄42 serving up brightleaf dogs for those of you on the Clayton side of this place. They’ve got a full menu too. Closer to Smithfield? You can check out Millie’s Dogs, Crickets Grill, or my favorite by the library — Dupree’s Dogs. Better yet, go to Selma and check out Hula Girl. I’ve done a review for them as well. All of these are viable alternate options that I choose consistently over the Percy Flower’s Store. I won’t ever stop in there again unless it’s out of an absolute need and I couldn’t make it to another gas station. By the way, even their gas is over priced! Do yourself a favor and just ignore this place altogether. –C

If you are in the area… do your mouth a favor and stop by for one their famous hotdogs! They use Carolina Packers dogs and words cannot describe how tasty they are. They are steam cooked and made to perfection. I know this review is somewhat limited but once you taste a Percy’s Hotdog you will understand that there are no words to describe how good they are. Also, the burgers are amazing as well. They are ground daily and hand formed! I get my dog with chili, cheese, and ketchup and I get my burger with lettuce, chili, cheese, ketchup, and mayo! Just go, eat, and be happy!

First, a little local history from Wikipedia. While this has nothing to do with the food served here, I think it adds to the local color of the place. This store is named after Percy Flowers, who was one of Johnston county’s most prolific bootleggers during the 1950s and 1960s. He is reputed to have made over a million dollars a year with his moon shining operation. At one point, he was producing alcohol on such a large scale that he purchased sugar by the train-car load. In recent years, Rebecca Flowers, Mr. Flowers’ daughter, has developed Percy’s 5,000-acre farm in Johnston County into a planned community. The store is on the edge of the community. The store serves Carolina Packer(red) style hot dogs, burgers and standard«breakfast to-go» fare. The dogs with chili, mustard and onions are tasty. The burgers with chili are surprisingly good considering they are from a convenience store. I’ve always found the service to be pretty quick. They clearly have a large number of regulars as the staff greets many folks by name. The seating is several booths inside along with a couple of picnic tables and rocking chairs out front. Stop in if you’re passing by and get a dog to go…

Great place to get world famous hotdogs, after 3:00 they are $.99 each. You can dine it, dine outside under the covered porch, or take it to go. They have an ABC store on one corner. They have a pond right behind the store that is open to the public. Only drawback about this store is the long lines some days, the older ladies working the counter aren’t the fastest, and they close the gas station early at night.
