In my 25 years of life, I have never been so frustrated with a business. I recently got married and changed my last name to my husband’s last name. As he is Hispanic, he has two last names: his actual name and his mother’s maiden name. I went to the Social Security Office in Leesburg and changed my name to what I wanted(just his last name). I received all of the necessary documentation and waited twenty-four hours to go to the DMV. I found this location on the DMV website and woke up early the next day to get everything in order. Upon walking in, I noticed it was a small waiting area with very few chairs. There were more people standing in the waiting area than sitting as all of the chairs were taken. Thankfully, I only waited for 15 – 20 minutes for my number to be called. I gave the employee I was speaking to all of my information and anxiously awaited seeing my full new name on my driver’s license! The lady I was speaking with was talkative and sweet but as soon as I explained I only took one of his last names, she leaned over to the guy next to her and asked if I had to take both. The guy was the rudest person I have ever encountered. He told her that I needed to take both. When I attempted to explain that I only took one with social security he said«I didn’t ask for your series of events. You have to take both or you can be arrested for identity fraud.» I told him the federal government had no issues with my name change and I asked for clarification on the reasoning why I can’t have my federally legal name on my state identification card. He said«I already gave you your options, put the two names on your license or I’m calling the cops.» Not wanting to cause trouble, I took the license and now I’m trying everything to get my name corrected with the state government. Do not go to this location as you may run into the jerk I encountered.
