Guru Restaurant

Recently moved to the area. So much mediocrity around here it gets depressing — then I find a true gem like Guru !!! Uday Kadam, the Chef/​owner is a wonderful host; full of stories, information, and hospitality. When we sat down a charming young lady brought an inviting bowl of crisp and flaky lentil chips accompanied by both a mango and an onion chutney. I was already impressed at this point because the chips were so fresh and not at all oily, and the chutneys — especially the Onion chutney, which had no acidly-​oniony aftertaste but was still full of flavor. Next, the Garlic Naan was delivered — warm, puffy, toasty, flavorful, comforting naan in huge satisfying pieces. Next, at Uday’s suggestion, I tried the Beef Rogan Josh (with medium spiciness). WOW!!! That was literally all I could think to say for several minutes… just WOW!!! A burst of flavor danced over my tongue and around the underlying deliciousness of perfectly tender lamb. WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!!
DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS AMAZING DINING EXPERIENCE.
(I plan to become a regular)

Friendly owner/​staff and the food is amazing! Try the garlic naan bread and chicken tikka masala. Those are my go-to’s when I visit.

REALLY love this place to get Indian cuisine. You can tell the staff believes in their food and are proud of what they serve!
My favorite dish is the chicken Tikki masala. You can get it various level of spiciness. I love it from the mild to medium spice option.
Both times, I have had the same server, and she is a gem. She is extremely knowledgable and will tell you about each dish. You can also see how passionate/​courteous she is toward all guests.
Tips:
–You can easily split an entrée between 2 – 3 people.
–If you go with a group, I’d recommend getting several different options and splitting them family style.
–You most likely will have leftovers.
–The garlic and onion naan is amazing.
–Be patient — the food is made fresh, so it does take a little time from ordering to getting your meal.
The only reason I’ve given this place 4 instead of 5 stars is because the second time I went, I had a TERRIBLE wait. (2 hours and we took our entrees to go!!) It was not at all the fault of the servers. They were moving around like lightning and working like crazy. Unfortunately, they were just incredibly understaffed that evening with two servers working all tables, seating guests AND running transactions for to-​go orders. Apparently, Guru also caters and some of the servers were working that event. It was not fair to those working, so I’m hoping the owner/​management plans better staffing for evenings when they also cater an event. This may have been a one-​time occurrence, so I’m hoping to bring this to 5 stars on my next visit :)

I have nothing bad to say other than you should be eating here now.
The owner/​chef is always there working his best doing everything from greeting you at the door, coming to the table to explain and suggest items and the coming back to make sure it was to your liking.
The food is some of the most authentic I’ve had in Florida

My husband and I love Indian food. We go often and try all different restaurants we can find just to find the best. Well we found it at Guru!!! The owner was so attentive and the food is the best Indian food I have ever had — no exaggeration what so ever. You have to try this amazing restaurant and the portions are big. Love love love

My favorite place to eat Indian anywhere… Uday knows us each time we come in, points us to our favorite table and knows what we like and how we like it… And when there is something new on the menu he brings us a taste to try it. This place was an accidental find that immediately became a favorite! Excellent and flavorful food ~ you taste the flavor, not the spice… See you soon!

I was so impressed by this place! Incredibly nice owner and very vegan friendly. The food is excellent and fairly priced. You will leave full and satisfied. Definitely worth taking a chance and trying something outside of your usual boring restaurant rotation.

Five stars for service, food and ambience. This was my first experience eating Indian food. It was an awesome experience. Corinna, our waitress, was very informative and helpful. Sure recommend going there.

Hands down the best Indian food in greater Orlando area. Their garlic naan bread is to die for. Service is great, and friendly staff, and can even eat outside. Highly recommend if in the area.

Great service and atmosphere. The owner sat us, took our order, and filled our glasses. It was pretty empty on a Monday.
The heat level from the spices was good, but the intensity of the flavors was low. Chicken breast in the curry, I wish some thigh was in there.
The naan was big and good.
Lots of rice.

Visiting here for a swim clinic and couldn’t figure out where to eat. Saw the good reviews for Guru on Unilocal and decided to chance it, even though I was skeptical about finding authentic Indian food in as unlikely a place as rural (or at least suburban) Central Florida. This was a revelation. The food was as good as you get in New York and the service was friendly, informative and attentive. In a land of mostly chain restaurants, this place is a real find.
By the way, my GPS got confused finding the place. It’s not right on the highway, but instead just up on the hill above.

the service is so very enthusiastic and helpful. I love seeing a waitress who is a fan of the food she serves. we enjoy every part of our meal — the complimentary papadom, garlic naan, two vegetable dishes, chicken marsala, mango lassi, mango ice cream.

Fantastic Indian Food!!! Uday is always there to help guide you through the menu. The onion and garlic nans are totally addictive! I enjoy the plethora of vegetarian options as well. Lots of simple choices for a Lenten fast meal or choose a sampling for a feast fit for a king!
He even has a small selection of Indian beverages from smoothies to beer to give the meal the final touch.
Food can come in any level of spice you like from Mild, medium, medium hot, up to Indian Hot.
If your not familiar with Indian food I would recommend this place to help guide you. If your an expert, be adventurous on their menu and beat level :-)

Incredible food. Great service. I would def recommend this place and come back. Came here from out of town for a conference and was recommended to come here for Indian food by a local. It was definitely a great recommendation.
