Very cute little store and friendly staff! Their meat is absolutely amazing as well. I definitely recommend and will shop here again.

If you are in a rush, there is a good selection of packaged sausages, steaks and chicken. You can find pizza dough from Bella Napoli and pasta sauce made in store. If you are looking for a dressing or steak sauce to accompany your dinner, there are blends speciality made for the butcher shop. The 10 pound bags of ground sirloin, Italian sausage and boneless skinless chicken breasts are great value for families or if you have extra space in your deep freezer. The shop also has a small produce section and offers fresh seafood from Gloucester, Massachusetts. In addition, the deli looks promising!

Fred’s is a nice little butcher shop with a good variety of meats at good prices. They offer a nice little olive bar as well. But the only thing I bought was a sub at their deli counter. Even though I was starving, I opted for the small sub, probably because of reading in another review that they were big. Well, they were right! My small roast beef sub was a beast and quite good as well. You can get subs made from regular deli meat or Fred’s meat(which I was assured was better), and it was just great. The sub and a soda came out to $ 8.00 even. You can’t beat that. And the girls who worked on this busy holiday evening were sweet as well. So stock up here if you’ve got a reason to get a super sandwich(like heading to the track)!

Best deli meat, and butcher around by far. We love their selection of local dairy, produce, and baked goods. Now they have fresh caught fish!!! Absolute heaven! Thank you Fred The Butcher for being my «go to» for all things meat!

So many good products: My favorites are Chicken Salad, any sub… Best prices and quality in the area. Many meats cooked on premise. Fantastic Marinara sauce, great homemade franks and homemade bacon. None better locally! Smith’s pies not made there but at $ 12.00 best pie in the area without driving to Charlton. Most deli salads are very good but on a par with other local delis. Much depends on your personal taste. Try their own homemade olive oil, I love it. Some products are average depending on you personal taste, but others are outstanding! They have added lots of staff who are friendly and helpful and service is always great! Try it!

The deli meat is very watery and cheap. The sub roll was hard but not in Good way. Prices we’re low but they should be. Would highly recommend primal meat house over here. For subs. Butcher meat prices we’re inexpensive but wouldn’t trust trying due to my deli experience.

Awesome butcher that sells a bunch of prepared stuff too. This is the simply the best place to buy beef in the Capital District. Cut to order dry aged prime grade steaks! If you want to take your grilling to the next level stop by this store and bring your meat money. The Bottom line: They sell the best meat you can buy.

Great deli! The store is good too, but have never bought from the butcher itself. This review is for the deli. Very cheap subs for great portions. $ 4-$ 5 for an 8 inch sub.(Unless you get Fred’s meat, which is more expensive but very good). We have had an Italian mix-style sub, the cheese steak, the grilled Ruben, chicken salad sub, and ham/turkey sub and they were very good

I have to say that I do love Fred’s but don’t go in as much as I used to. The employees behind the Deli counter had the worst attitudes. It’s a shame, made me stop going in there to shop.

Go here now! Fred the Butcher is a sign that God loves us, and wants us to be happy. Fresh, quality meats with traditional and more creative cuts. Housemade deli items that are flavorful and reasonably priced. An educated(if not a little overly confident…) staff. Other local foodie establishment offerings. A surprisingly creative selection of unique sundry cans and packages to compliment the butchery. No reason to go anyplace else.

When visiting family and friends in upstate NY I’m a regular and it has only improved since I was last in the area. Great Sub’s and deli salads. $ 5.00 for a sub full of fresh meat? I place them as one of the best deal in the area! Nice to see they have expanded and also increased the staff so some of the long lines of years ago have gone away. A must try sleeper if you’ve never been there!

I don’t get here as often as I’d like, however Every time I shop here I’m amazed at how helpful and pleasant the staff is, and the meats are the best quality in the entire capital district!!! Its difficult to find fresh ground Veal in this area but went to Fred’s yesterday and although they dont grind Veal daily, Dave didn’t hesitate to accommodate my request. He was extremely helpful and genuine. Thank you so much !!!

Went here for the first time this week and I can sum the experience up in one word AMAZING!!! The deli sandwiches were to die for! It’s been years since I was able to have a really good deli sandwich! The atmosphere is relaxed you can go an be comfortable to just enjoy a meal and good read. Huge selection of produce and dried fruits fresh baked goods. The smell when you go in needs to be bottled and sold! Don’t miss the old Albany art. Eat in or take out either way this place is a must!

I’m taking away one star. Not for the meats(which are great), but for the attitude of some of the employees/owners. On numerous occasions, a younger guy, who I assume is in a position of authority, has ridiculed the work ethic of another employee, or questioned what he was doing. Obviously not a big deal, but when doing it in front of customers, it’s incredibly awkward. Sometimes the employees seem to have a really bad attitude. I can’t say I’m surprised.

Fred is the bomb for the freshest meats in town with similar price to grocery stores. The stuffed pork chops and marinated chicken breasts are yummy. Support Fred and keep local businesses alive and well.

I have been coming for about a year. Very polite people. Even told me to wait a week for price to drop on some items. Very nice little gem.

I was lured in here by a coupon and blown away by the quality and variety. First time buyer, soon to be regular customer! What impressed me: – Certified Angus beef(the kind I like, equivalent to USDA Choice or higher) at excellent prices with some hard to find cuts like spare ribs, brisket and flank steak –great deli meat counter with house cured head cheese, hot ham, pepper ham and much more –carefully curated selection of sauces, mustards, oil and vinegar etc. –really friendly staff who seem to enjoy working there. For non-locals, take the Groom Rd. exit(8A) on I-87 N, go east, turn right on 9 and it’s in the first mini-mall on your left. There’s cheap gas in this area BTW.

I know these place pretty well, back in the day when my grandmother had a bakery in Mechanicville, Fred was her first landlord on North Main street. You might have heard of it Family Bakery. Well the bakery moved from North Main street to Central Ave in Mechanicville and is no longer in business as of the mid 90’s, just a little history for ya’s. Getting back to Fred’s…all his meats and products are worlds better than all the local grocery markets around here, sure his products are a little bit more expensive but I am willing to pay more for better quality. During this trip I bought some baby back ribs and a American Mix sub. The sub, was good, love the fact that they use good quality cold cuts here on their subs. I think they need more help at the counter though, it took way too long to order a sub, and it wasn’t even that busy. The ribs… they were perfect. I will be coming back here to try other meats.

The Reuben was awesome, toasty flavorful rye with fresh corned beef, really good Russian dressing, and sauerkraut, YUM! The Chicken Cordon Bleu had the softest Ciabatta Bun with Chicken Breast, Cheese and Honey Ham, I loved this, too! The Hot Dog had a nice, meaty meat sauce, very good! All the meats are fresh and cured there. I was happy with everything I ate and the Chef Dale was a nice guy :) They have hot food on weekdays 10 to 3. I bought some Fred the Butcher bottled sauces and salsas, just got home and already opened the Vidalia Onion and Peach Salsa… I love fruity sweet salsa, pretty bomb!
