Phill’s is awesome. It took me forever to gather the courage to try gas station bbq but when I finally did, I regretted wasting so much time! The tri tip dip is hands down the BEST tri tip sandwich ever made. It has cheese and grilled onions and mushrooms on it and the meat is so so good, it rivals my dad’s(don’t tell!)! Just writing this is making my mouth water. The regular tri tip sandwich doesn’t come with all the toppings the dip does, so we always get the dip even though we don’t usually dip it in the au jus. We’ve been there many times and I can’t bring myself to order anything else, though we have split the tri tip dip so we could try something else too. We’ve tried the pastrami sandwich(also amazing) and the grilled chicken quesadilla, which was HUGE and the chicken was really smoky and delicious. Also, there’s a punchcard! The service isn’t great as Phill is a man of few words and doesn’t like to be bothered it seems. He seems to talk more to his regulars. We took my grandparents here and they were trying to ask him questions and he rudely told them to wait. Maybe he was busy, but I was embarrassed for taking my grandparents there. I’ve also found that sometimes my tri tip dip comes with fries and sometimes it doesn’t, which is disappointing when you get home looking forward to the fries and they’re not there. They’re really good even though they’re just frozen fries. Long story short, go for the food, not the service, and check your food before you leave.

Never ever again!!! OMG! Major ripoff! Twice the price to buy anywhere else and quality, lets just say he could do a lot better. So disappointed. Im all for helping buying local, but not if it means getting ripped off to do it.

I wasn’t thrilled with Phill’s. The place was dirty and grimy. The kitchen was broken down and busted. It was hard to strike up a conversation with the cook. I asked about his Sexy Max and Cheese. I wanted to know how it got its name. Hoping he would be eager to tell me what makes up the sexy component, he replied, «Because it came out that way.» I quickly countered, «Is it better than sex?» He just shrugged his shoulders. I ordered chicken strips with fries. I added a side of Sexy Mac. Hubs ordered a sandwich, onion rings and Sexy Mac. Once we got home, guess what? Missing an order of Mac and Cheese. A close up look at hubby’s Mac and Cheese, and I was glad the guy forgot mine. It looked like a Macaroni and Cheese brick. Nothing sexy about that! What constitutes sexy Macaroni and Cheese, in my opinion, is ooey, gooey, silky, melted cheese. The cheese stays melted. Sexy macaroni and cheese has you using your fingers, to swipe up all the cheesy goodness. When it’s all gone, you want more. Why? Because it’s sexy! Sexy is delicious. Sexy says, «Come on in. Sit a while. Let me serve up some Macaroni and Cheese. Don’t worry, we have more. Have all the Sexy Mac and cheese you want. Sexy has you covered in cheesy goodness.» Folks, this Mac and Cheese ain’t sexy! It’s ugly. It’s so ugly, it’s fugly!

Excellent tri tip burger(has two beef patties), pastrami burger(has two beef patties), tri tip sandwich, fries, and totally the x rated mac and cheese. Great looking chicken(haven’t tried yet). The chef has his own recipe of sauce.

Best thing here are the ribs. The Mac and cheese I got was dry and the rice as well. I would come back for the ribs for sure and probably try out the rest.

Excellent tasting Tri-tip. We purchased a whole tri tip this time and it was amazing. Last visit we had a slab of ribs, asked for a side of bbq sauce. Best tasting BBQ sauce I’ve had here in Fresno/Clovis! I’ll be back for more!

I have lived in Fresno for over twenty years and have tried all of the BBQ places at least once. Hands down the best BBQ I have eaten in CA. This is a hidden gem but try it and you will not be sorry. The owner(Phil) is extremely professional and you can tell that he really cares about the quality of his food. We had the tri-tip and ribs-both wonderful and he was very generous with his fabulous sauce. All of the sides looked good but we had his green beans and stewed//baked beans. Really, really good. Portions were very generous and all I can say is that Phills Corner Grill is a definite must try if you like BBQ.

Had a deal saver coupon along with many others and wanted to try bbq out of a gas station. The idea of food from a gas station seemed gross. but the bbq from Phils was nowhere near gross. In fact it was fantastic! I got there at 11:00 and was told the ribs and chicken would not be ready till 11:30. I returned at 11:30 in time to get the first rib and chicken and it was definitely worth the wait! The sauce was a perfect compliment to the meat! I also had the Mac and cheese along with the grilln beans. Best bbq from a gas station or anywhere else in Fresno! I noticed a pastrami burger that looked killer good too!

Me and my brother were looking around Unilocal for some good BBQ yesterday. Found this place and decided to give it a go. Upon arriving I wasn’t sure if we had found the right place, but when we walked in we met Phil prepping some items. We looked and asked him what he suggested us getting. He told us hold on, went outside and came back in with the biggest slab, most delicious looking /smelling rack of ribs. Phil was a nice guy too, seemed really genuine and took a lot of pride in his work. He cut the ribs perfectly and cut up a few rip tips too. We got home and immediately got things ready. The ribs were still nice and hot when I took my first bite. What a first bite that was. These ribs are the most juicy, succulent, fall off the bone, tender ribs I’ve ever had here in town. Mix that in with the tangy, not too sweet /not too spicy delicious homemade BBQ sauce and you got yourself a duo that will rock your damn taste buds. They are amazing, I hope this place is around forever because these ribs are crazy. The Xrated Mac n Cheese was great too, lots of flavor, perfect texture and not too salty like most places make. Can’t wait to go back and try out some other items like the chicken and the burger. I didn’t want to even write this review since its kind of a hidden gem but honestly hope to see this place stick around. It’s is nothing what I expected and I’m definitely going back. Great job Phil.

Really really awesome chicken and ribs. Sides were delicious too. His bbq sauce was very tasty, not too sweet, had a little spice, very very good. I will definitely come back.

Great Tri Tip Sandwich. Will try it next time with the sauce on the side. Terrific place… Competitive pricing. Just follow the amazing smoke smell from the parking lot of the gas station. Definitely a hidden gym.

Hands down the best BBQ I’ve had in California. I was hesitant because it was in a gas station. After my first bite into my tri tip sandwich all reservations were obliterated. Not only is it great BBQ but you also get a nice portion and best of all its not an arm and a leg. I paid just 7 for my tritip sandwich and it had enough meat to make two. Most places don’t even touch the quality and charge at least 10. Big rip offs. Phil is awesome too. Great guy. Always has a smile and something funny to say about the day. Do yourself a favor and eat here just once. You will never eat at another BBQ place again.

NOTE: New hours, they close promptly at 4pm during the week. Saturday, unknown. Phil gives Dog House Grill a run for their money on Tri-Tip! Please remember, this is inside a mini-mart/gas station. no tables, no waiters. you order off the menu, pay the guy, get your food. if you can’t handle this kind place, move on. if you want great ribs, tri-tip, chicken. then step in to Phils! The sides: Mac and cheese-beans– green beans. not all sides avail. all the time. and they are ok just ok as most sides from any place are family recipes so won’t please everyone. the cornbread self destructed. but it’s all about the meat ! want good cornbread? go to Boston Market! lunch time is BUSY! daily specials. my neighbor loves the philly cheese steak. I will try pastrami next time! it’s a neighborhood place. lots of trades guys go here for breakfast burritos. remember, it’s in a gas station. it is what it is, but very good food!
