Pass on this one. I came here on a recommendation from a local and now my faith in his restaurant choices is seriously wavering. I should have known, it was 6:00 on a Friday night(aka prime time for dinner) everywhere else was busy with a wait list and Toro Viejo had open seating… They are clearly understaffed, a couple of the employees were working super hard to keep up with the(albeit small) workload they had, while others were pretty impartial to their coworkers’ struggles. There was a large group sitting next to us whose kids were literally running circles around our table. And I get it, family restaurant, don’t want to upset your biggest check of the night… But come on. The food took about 30 minutes to come out and wasn’t anything to write home(or on the internet) about. I’ll leave it at «rather average». I commend you if you actually read this long of a review after seeing two stars. You must really be trying to justify going to this place ;) Honestly, move on. Life’s too short to eat«rather average» Mexican food.

Salsa was like pepper juice(no tomato or onion or substance) but had a nice kick. Food had good flavor but my taco was not very full of meat and everything was greasy. WATERTASTESHORRIBLE. Like dirty dish water??? Stick to drinking beer.

Great Mexican food! Huge portions. Don’t fill up on the chips and salsa before your meal arrives or you won’t finish.

The food is very good, the service ok, but the bar was uncooperative. They were out of their bulk wine sold by carafe but refused to sell their existing wine by the bottle, only by the glass. Very Bad! Not friendly! So saying their mixed drink are very strong. Just don’t understannd the thinking of management!

My absolute favorite place for Mexican food! I’ve been coming here since I was 16 and am now 26. The salsa is my favorite out of every place in town. Love their chicken they put on stuff. But my go to is a bean burrito with rice and beans. I’ve tried everyone’s stuff that I bring with me. The macho burrito chicken is great. My husband likes fajito(sp). I love nachos as well.

Best Mexican food in CDA. This is the only restaurant I take my wife and kids to because we are never disappointed. Top notch service even when busy and the food is always perfect.

The staff here is very helpful and polite. My girl friend is vegan and they bent over backwards to accommodate her. They kept our drinks and chips full, and the food was pretty tasty. Definitely worth your time, and light years ahead of the other Mexican restaurants(Azteca).

Just got out of a swim in Lake CdA so I was freezing and needed something to warm me up. So I Got tortilla soup and the super burrito with shredded chicken with Negra modelo and a water. Tortilla soup was phenomenal but I might be biased since I was freezing but the flavors were nicely balanced although I could’ve had more spicyness to it.

This place is great! We love tequila to begin with, so this place was already on our good list. We only had drinks and chips but they were nice and stiff and the waitresses were super friendly and welcoming.

After having eaten at Toro Viejo, I’m truly surprised by the number of great reviews. I ordered the carnitas with flour tortillas but was served the corn tortillas. The corn tortillas were very dry and hard. The carnitas looked okay but was actually also very dry and hard, almost crunchy. I was hungry so I tried to struggle through but ended up eating only the rice & beans, which were average. At least the rice wasn’t overcooked! The service was ok. I felt they were understaffed: one waiter & one bus boy wasn’t enough to handle the number of customers.

The food is terrific, the service is impeccable, and the prices are a great value. I’ve been eating here for over 10 years and it’s just as good now as it was then. The«cantina» side of the restaurant is a fantastic place for large parties, tons of seating with plenty of room so you don’t feel mashed in like sardines. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys Mexican food.

Decided a repeat visit was in order and this time we got their during the lunch hour, regular menu and lunch menu available. I had 2 chicken enchiladas with xtra sauce and my boyfriend enjoyed the carnitas. I like my food to be ‘burn your tongue’ hot so I sent it back and it was returned exactly as I liked. The chips were warm and crispy and the beers were ice cold. There was a different server yesterday and at first appearance he seems a bit rough around the edges as he is a bigger man with tattoos on the neck… Another example as to why we should not judge a book by it’s cover, he was AWESOME, polite and genuine. Toro Viejo knows good service an seems like that have instilled it in each one of their servers. Thank you for another great meal.

My family and I have eaten here hundreds of times. The service is the same every time… friendly and fun. We have had many family get togethers here, and have never been disappointed. The food is like no other… so much flavor and taste. Great portion sizes too.

We were looking for a Mexican restaurant on Unilocal, and found this place not far from where we were staying. The food is passable for Mexican, but not memorable. The décor is in desperate need of updating. The service was fine. Was disappointed in the salsa.

Got to town late on a Friday and all the places to eat on the main drag were packed. I saw this place on a side street and decided to give it a try. When my burrito came it didn’t look that nice, but once I bit into it it was delicious. The staff was friendly, but a little slow. I would eat here again knowing that its not fancy and just good eats.

This is one of my family’s favorites, we have eaten here too many time to count. Fast friendly services, relaxed atmosphere, and good food to boot. I get the steak or chicken burrito de fajita usually or the burro del campo(a chile relleno wrapped in burrito fixens) yummy. EVERYTHINGELSE I have eaten has been good as well. homemade chips and salsa are almost always good, been off a time or two; but who knows oil wasn’t hot enough or something(only 1 or 2 times out of 100ish) Good value for the money Give the place a facelift and clean some stuff up I’d give you a 5-star.
