Price Gouging. I went for a wide shovel to push snow during the insane amount of snow we had during the first months of 2015. The wide plastic shovel was $ 40.00. I asked the woman working the register«how much was this shovel in the fall?» She responded, «the same, do you want it or not?» I said, «no» and exited the store. I have made many purchases here since they opened a few years ago, but this was too much. I went to Hingham Lumber a few minutes up the road, and a shovel which was substantially similar was $ 20.00. Aubuchon in Cohasset will only see me again on Sundays when Hingham Lumber is closed.

Great place. They have everything you need at reasonable prices, and the staff is friendly and helpful– Not condescending at all(I have a problem at some hardware places, that since I don’t know what I’m doing, the staff treats me like an idiot when I ask them questions. I AM an idiot, but I don’t need to be reminded of it!). Remember I mentioned the prices? Over the Holidays, they had Christmas trees, all priced at NINETEENBUCKS!

My wife stopped in to pick up a gallon of paint, as we were remodeling our bathroom. $ 68! For one gallon of paint! I was so confused that I called the store and asked if they made a mistake. Nope. I then called my buddy in FL who owns a huge paint contracting business and asked him to name the most he has ever paid for a gallon of paint. He said $ 45 bucks for a special order, reflective marine paint. uh yeah, i just got banged out like i was in that movie Deliverance. I’ll happily drive to Lowe’s, HD or Antarctica before I will ever go in that store for anything ever again.

Definitely NOT the place for novice Do-It-Yourselfers. My Wife and I went in, looking for help in staining our deck. The man we spoke with made it passive aggressively clear that we were an interruption in his day, and, after five minutes of discussion, when we asked what stain to buy, he said, «The brand won’t matter, because whatever you do will fail.» Pause for dramatic effect. «Because as you should know, it’s too cold out to stain wood.» The good news? Hingham Lumber isn’t THAT far away, and if you’re a novice Do-It-Yourselfer, it’s definitely a better bet.
