Following a dinner and drinks elsewhere in Cohasset, we were in search of a bar to accomodate a group of a dozen or so folks late into the night. Mr. Dooley’s was the only nearby option we found open past 10pm, and it was somewhat quiet when we walked in – plenty of room for us. There’s nothing special about the atmosphere, drinks, or food there, but the service was friendly and fast, the bar well-stocked, and plenty of seating for our group.

Came here a few years ago and really liked it. So we are back in town and stopped in. Had to leave after just 1 steak tip because of all the flies on our table and our food. The waitress just said, ‘Yeah. I know. It’s really terrible here.’ But we were charged full price and are now heading out to eat somewhere else because we are still hungry! Won’t be returning. Very disappointed and feel like we were robbed.

What a great experience. Our Waitress Jelly was so friendly. We were new to the area and she helped us navigate the area. I recommend the spring rolls. They were so delicious. I also got the Irish whiskey steak tips, phenomenal. Check it out. You won’t be disappointed!

This review dates back to Jan 2014. This is an average place. I was expecting something more. It is not bad, but I ordered the chicken sandwich and it came as a sandwich on regular white bread and it was a 3 layer sandwich.(bread bread and more bread). I usually order the grilled chicken sandwich at pubs and they are served on a bun(a large piece of chicken on a bun w/lettuce tomatoes etc). Ok so this was not the norm. But in all fairness, the sandwich was really lacking since the chicken was an extra thin slice of grilled chicken, and then there was so much bread, and very little extra to make this sandwich seem tasteful, really not much there except for the 3 layers of bread. Sorry. The beer was fine, and my friend enjoyed his steak tips, although he reported them not as good as another nearby place. Waitress was very accommodating. Overall just an OK place. Would go again but not go out of my way to this pub.

Great place to get a beer and some good pub food. Chicken added to the Mac and cheese is delicious.

This has become my new local. Nice bar atmosphere with friendly locals and staff. Decent beer selection on tap, during the winter they make a nice hot toddy and a few other warm drinks. A few TVs that will show local sports. Small outside area for when it is warm. Food is typical pub fare. Kid friendly during the day and most nights(Thursday/Friday night can be a little loud for the small ones)

We have come here for lunch five times over the past six months. Once during the week, two Saturdays and two Sundays. On the weekday we were two of six at noon. Fish & Chips were excellent as was the sandwich of the day. Clam Chowder was very good. The two Saturdays were extremely crowded with an amazing number of young children for an Irish Pub. Table service on Saturday was extremely slow. Fish Sandwich was disappointing given how good the Fish & Chips were, the roll was some kind of sweat bread, not a good combo at all. The Clam Chowder was cold. Corned Beef sandwich was OK but again on a sweat roll. The fries are consistently good. Sundays are less crowded but again way more children than you would expect for on Irish Pub. This past Sunday young kids, under 10, were sitting at the bar. One reason I sit at a bar is to get away from young children. The Crab Burger was not edible. The grilled Chicken Sandwich was again on a sweet roll, which was not eaten. Pretty sure we will not be back.

«the perfect pint»…my friends and I had appetizers and a boat load of Guiness and the food was great and the pints were«perfect», a rare feat. Go here, relax and have a guiness or three.

The spring roll appetizer are supposed to have corned beef in them. I’ve been eating corned beef for years — that was chicken. You can not pass off chicken as corned beef — sorry Mr. Dooley, it just doesn’t fly w/this Irish lass. That is all — the rest of the meal wasn’t worth the key strokes. Onto other reviews!

Sticking with what the stars really mean on this one: A-OK. Came in for a few Shipyard Pumpkinheads, ended up ordering some ginormous platter of fried food. My friend said it was embarrassingly large, and she was right! There was a mountain of onion rings, french fries, chicken fingers, buffalo wings, and who knows what else. The three of us sheepishly picked at it until it was only a small hill… and gave up. It was standard fried pub fare. They had live music in the middle of the day which was great, but a tad loud. Overall, a nice place to stop in for a pint.

awful. could be worse. but awful. thank god for the Guinness or i’d nearly die. $ 8 for a kids dinner. pasta with butter, no drink, no dessert, nothing. dreadful. i ordered the quesadilla, «cheese only», for $ 8.99. was given a quesadilla with vegetables for $ 10.99. i’m a huge fan of waitresses… so i didn’t complain but a $ 2 upcharge, despite my complete aversion for mushrooms which i painstakingly picked out — no thanks. then the cobwebs that were within arm’s reach when we were in the front window. seriously, if it’s that dead… get a broom, get rid of the spider webs. and the 70’s rock. i thought at the worst there could have been U2, but no, at the worst there was 70’s rock. no wonder the place was empty on a Thursday night. never again.

This is by far the worst food I ever come across in the south shore. went there a couple of weeks a go for dinner, and I ordered the cinco de mayo special they were pushing featuring«tuna tacos. with authentic mexican rice» . When the«tacos» arrived, it looked like something out of an elementary school cafeteria. Two soggy flour tortillas with a fishy smelling cube of tuna, a beat-up bland tomato and they put cabbage on the side(you read that right). There was no avocado, no herbs, no lemon to hide the bad fish flavor, not even salt… nothing else really.. just bland tomatoes, old tuna, and cabbage on a soggy tortilla. Of course there was the rice on the side, but it was inedible.. it tasted like a grade school kids attempt to cook. I put some ketchup on it because I was so hungry and had to be able to eat something. I actually really felt bad for all the produce wasted to make that food. and I felt terrible for the tuna that was killed and ended up on my plate. The food they serve at Mr. Dooly’s is not only an insult to the residents of our town, but an insult to the animals and produce harvested. There are rumors around that they are just serving Sysco foodservice food. It would make sense if it’s true.

My sister and I stopped in here for lunch and a beer after a day of bridesmaid dress shopping. Everything was perfectly fine– the bartender was nice, the beer selection was good, etc.- but I fully recognize that we went at a totally off time. The place was pretty empty– so I can’t comment on the noise– and the food was just OK. All in all, like most reviewers, I prefer the Boston location. That being said, it’s not like Cohasset is particularly jumping with casual places to just grab a beer, and since my sister and her fiancé live in Cohasset I’ll assume that I’ll come here a few more times and update my review then! It’s a fine place to grab a beer and some apps, though I’m sure the place gets super busy and crowded since there’s nothing else like it around!

Probably made a mistake coming here Weds night before Thanksgiving — being the only bar in town, it was jammed. That in itself would not be a problem but the noise level was DEAFENING. And it wasn’t rowdy patrons, this is Cohasset after all — it looks to me like there is some kind of very hard plaster on the high ceiling, couple it with a wood floor and that’s what happens. Only a few tables in the place, but our food was fine — the pub sampler would feed four people, fish and chips also good. Typical pub grub menu, with more Irish stuff than usual(Shepherd’s Pie, Bangers and Mash, etc). Service was very good too. But we couldn’t wait to get out of there before we had ear damage.

This Dooley’s lacks the Irish authenticity that you sometimes find at the one in the Financial District. Like the one in Boston, the food here is mediocre(I had clam chowder and some type of Southwest salad with grilled chicken). Others at my table went more traditional with fish & chips and beef stew. No one had any complaints but no one had any raves either. Decent beer list and nice addition to Cohasset. Not sure if they ever have live music but they didn’t while I was there.

Finally nice to get a bar in town where the Cougars can come and play! Great place to come on a Friday night to see live music — keep an eye out for«Queen Coug» and her cats. I would describe O’ Dooleys as a cross between Stars and Feng Shui. Try the buffalo chicken nachos.

Mr. Dooley’s joins the smattering of other restaurants in Cohasset Village, but steps in as the only pub and brew-focused option in this tiny downtown area. Mail order Irish bric-à-brac litters the walls and you get the sense someone paged through a catalogue of sepia toned«Old Country» prints trying to give that authentic Irish feel(and achieving anything but). The smallish interior is all dark woods with a handful of tables and bar seating. Summer months open up the outdoor patio to the right of the dining room with added seating for warm weather. Recently went for lunch and we split a grilled cheese panini and a Cobb Salad. Both meals came out with a good deal of food for the price tag. The Cobb Salad relied a little heavily on lettuce to fill the gargantuan taco shell, but when we eventually hit chicken it was tasty and well-seasoned– a behemoth on it’s own for $ 11.99(my dining companion ended up wrapping half and heading home with that night’s dinner). The Grilled Cheese Tomato Panini underwhelmed at $ 7.99 and while it was billed as a mix of cheeses, the result felt tainted by an overly sharp cheddar and flavorless tomato. Slather bread with butter and add cheese– it’s gonna taste okay– but this was disappointing in that«How do you mess up grilled cheese?» kind of way. Grilled cheese heartbreak aside, we found the service to be friendly and attentive and the space was definitely a comfortable nook for grabbing a bite. All in all, I’m not sure I’d make a point to go back but if I find myself in Cohasset looking for some comfort food and a pint, this is as good a place as any.

Finally went and ate here, and it was fine. Nothing special, but fine. Prices are a bit steep, but you do get a lotta food for the money. I’ve actually been back a couple of times since my first visit. When it isn’t crowded, it’s a delightful place to spend some time. When it’s crowded(weekend nights especially), I would rather be someplace else. The place is much too small and the noise level makes conversation almost impossible. Still, I give this place 4 stars. Mostly because it’s one of the better places to eat in the area, and also because the wait staff here is great! Make sure you get Sinclair as your waitress. She will take good care of you!

Mr Dooleys in Cohasset borders on cliché. It fills a void in the village(finally a local pub) and will get more business than it presently deserves. I want it to be better. Service: Friendly, however too slow for a thin lunch crowd. Food: Very disappointing. A carelessly made turkey club came out almost 10 minutes after the other dishes. The meat was of poor quality and it appeared that only a sliver of tomato made it in the sandwich. Also, wheat and rye bread were arbitrarily used in the sandwich which was not as advertised. I only ate a ¼ of the sandwich and yet was expected to pay for it even after I provided some constructive feedback. The children’s mac and cheese should be put on some health watch list. Also, the chef insists on putting Irish Bacon in almost every dish — please, a little goes a long way. Ambiance: Bordering on tacky«hey I’m in an Irish pub» and far too much wall«art». Mr Dooleys on Broad Street in Boston is much nicer and a better bet. Hoping Mr Dooleys in Cohasset can improve the food quickly and address the tacky décor.

A better than average«traditional» Irish bar. Similar to The Snug in Hingham, Mr. Dooleys is small with 12(?) tables and 12(?) bar stools. The menu looks a little better than what you get on the table, but it is decent for the price. a good place to take the family and you won’t have to be worried about any nonsense around you… I’m not going to rush back, but I can see myself there on a cold wintery day in January in my future.
