I’ve been going here for years. The staff has always been very friendly, the food quite good, and the prices very reasonable. The fish at the sushi bar are the standard selection, but the sushi chefs are creative with what they have. The Chinese dishes taste good since they serve the popular Americanized recipes. Their menu has expanded to include other Asian cuisines. People dining with me have said they are good, though I’ve never tried them. I recommend this place highly.

Very tasty sushi and chicken gyoza! Definitely a good choice for people visiting/passing by Colchester.

‘Gung ho is excellent. Never had a bad meal and I’ve tried everything in the menu. I miss the orange and pineapple slices that used to come gratis with the check. Jimmy is the best.

Delicious food with an excellent variety of Asian cuisine. You would be hard-pressed to find a location with more of a selection in this area, and it all tastes great. I’ve tried the sushi and various iterations of their Chinese and Thai dishes(General Tso’s, Tangerine Beef, etc.) and it is some of the best around. Unfortunately, attention to detail can sometimes be lacking. The sushi combo in my take-out order has been missing the soup on no less than three separate occasions. The orders are read back to you before paying, but it doesn’t seem like anyone checks to make sure everything is there. I started to check myself, but forgot to on one occasion and it happened again. It’s really annoying for this to happen so often at an otherwise exceptional restaurant.

There’s nothing I would call bad at Gung Ho. The place looked clean although something did smell a bit off. The service was okay. The food was edible. The thing is, there’s two similar, better, places in town, so okay doesn’t quite hack it. My impression is that they’ve either got a new cook or one that isn’t that great.

Our go to sushi place. The sushi is always fresh and tasty! The yellowtail jalepeno appetizer is a favorite. The Mongolian beef is delicious when I’m in the mood for beef instead. Highly recommended! The staff is very friendly and will bring out special dishes to regulars! This restaurant is right across from the green. There are a few parking spaces in front, several on the side and even more space in back.

I’m writing this review on behalf of my sister, who doesn’t have a computer and asked me to post this. «I’ve been enjoying going to this restaurant for about 3 years. The food is great. It’s conveniently located next to a consignment shop. The owner of the restaurant is sweet and generous and kind. She remembers my routine and which beer I drink, and turns the TV to CNN for me. I enjoy going there every Sunday. Yummy!

Unfortunately NOT good. Sweet and sour chicken was so so… the breading was extra thick. Everything is was not good. Sushi tasted awful and my husband couldn’t even eat it. The kids and I asked for our sodas four times before we finally got it AFTER all of our meals were done. The waitress was nice enough but we will never be back.

Gung Ho has really gone down hill. I understand it changed hands. I heard the old owners opened Toyo down the street. Try that.

This is my go-to Chinese place currently. They also offer some Japanese options as well, which I enjoy being able to grab some sushi with my favorites of Shrimp with Lobster Sauce and Beef Lo Mein. This place also offers a sit down area, which I’ve done once with my family and had a great time, but prefer to order and pick up to enjoy it at home. Great selection compared to other places I’ve gone to.

How does Gung Ho not have a review? Anyway, I find this fine establishment well-above-par. Everything I’ve gotten over the years is well proportioned and nicely cooked. Truly the only Asian food worth eating around here.

Good food, manager is on top of the service and the service is quite quick. Joan is a shrimp in lobster sauce fan and proclaims this the best ever. I’m partial to pork in garlic sauce and the Gung Ho does just okay so I switched to Pad Thai. darn good with lots of hot pepper oil on the side.

Do you like to freeze your butt off while waiting a long time for your food? Eat at Gung Ho! Went for dinner on All-You-Can-Eat sushi night. They sat us at a table that was FREEZING! I mean had-to-wear-a-winter-jacket-the-whole-time kinda cold. This would have been tolerable had the service been a step above a snail’s pace. Now, I understand that on All-You-Can-Eat-Sushi night it can get a little busy. Add more staff next time. Also, please bring in an HVAC contractor. That being said, the sushi was the same quality as usual. Not great, but not bad. Good for Colchester. I won’t be back until the summer though.

Best sushi in town. Good for a decent sit down meal as long as you are ok with impersonal wait staff. They will not be bouncey and cheery for you, but will bring you the meal you order.

I miss Gung Ho desperately. I was diagnosed with celiac disease a few months ago and am still unable to safely navigate a Chinese restaurant. But before I was diagnosed and had to go gluten-free, Gung Ho was a favorite treat. Service is great and the environment is nice. Everything is professionally presented and deliciously cooked, and the portions are generous. The fried rice is unique — I don’t know for sure but I believe they either use brown rice instead of white or else different spices. At any rate it’s divine. Gung Ho offers three different types of cuisine — Chinese, Japanese and Thai. I’ve had better Thai, and the sushi is decent. It’s the Chinese that steals the show. I can’t even recommend anything specific save for the fried rice.

I have stopped at the Gung Ho Chinese Restaurant on and off for decades, but Colchester isn’t usually convenient for me. A few months back, my brother and I were on our way home from a long trip, and decided to pick up some Chinese to go. I suggested Gung Ho, since I hadn’t been there in several years. I could tell right off they had redecorated since my last visit, but the aroma was still the same. We got Moo Goo Gai Pan(Chicken, Mushrooms and Vegetables) and Roast Pork Mai Fun(rice vermicelli). I ordered Hot and Sour soup and we both got Roast Pork Egg Rolls. All the food was fresh and not overcooked. The chicken in the Moo Goo Gai Pan was thin, light and not overly seasoned, the vegetables still nice and crispy, not boiled to death. I always find Mai Fun a little too dry, but this was just short of perfect(note to self — Mai Fun does not travel well — order Lo Mein unless you’re eating in). The Hot and Sour soup was flavorful without being overly spicy(although I later found the Won Ton soup could use a little more imagination). The Egg Rolls were fresh, crispy, and not at all oily. I now stop roughly every other week. Service is fast, and most of the folks at the front desk have a good command of English. Variations from the printed menu are no problem — for instance, my brother prefers Chicken Rice soup, which the Gung Ho does not normally offer, but they will make it up at no extra charge, even for semi-regulars like me. The price? Surprisingly, only pennies more than the place I usually went, but the food is noticeably superior. Gung Ho Chinese Restaurant is one rung better than one would expect to find in a small town like Colchester. I find it’s worth the extra miles for the better quality, and the expense is not even a concern.

Before I moved to a bigger city, Gung Ho was a great Chinese food option. Good service, large portions, prices are right.

This place is one of the only in the area that has«all you can eat sushi»(tuesday and wednesdays 5−9pm) so we used to frequent it pretty regularly. The sushi is pretty decent. Not the best I’ve ever had but certainly not the worst. Unfortunately the waitresses are so rude that I can’t even bear the thought of going back. Not only are they rude but when you go to all you can eat, don’t expect to actually eat all you can eat– they routinely«forget» entire rolls off your order and the service is painfully slow. If me and two girlfriends went and ordered a couple rolls each with some sushi to go with we would routinely wait at least 40 minutes. All in all, not worth it.
