Pure Bliss! Giverney in Cold Spring! This a very special jewel of a garden. The $ 5 entrance fee is well worth it. You can spend an hour or a day. There are many wonderful areas to investigate.

Stonecrop Gardens is a quiet retreat whose elevation allows it to specialize in Alpine plants although it also includes a number of planted water features(which attract many fine frogs), a wonderful vegetable garden and a wide variety of plantings particularly designed for those studying Linnaean taxonomic botany as well as a several working green houses used as much for propagation as show. They now sell cake and coffee on select dates from spring to fall(they close to the public during the winter), but generally have no food service and are not designed to serve large crowds(although select plants, including Alpines and some others raised in the garden, are for sale); indeed, access is via a single-lane, unpaved road. For those willing(and able, it is not handicap accessible) to traverse their hills and valleys they offer unique botanical experiences and for those who intern and reside there or those who join by taking a membership and receiving seeds from their collection, it is a one-of-a-kind botanical learning experience.

One word: Magic! Beautiful garden, very large, with tons of small gorgeous spots. A must do if you’re staying around Cold Spring.

What a wonderful place! From the moment you drive onto the property, it feels as if you’ve entered an enchanted realm. What an extraordinary collection of unique plants and trees. The bamboo garden was really something to walk through as well as the small house that felt like you had just entered Hobbiton. Really beautiful place to spend a morning or afternoon. The gardeners have done a remarkable job. Note of caution — make sure you«check-in» and pay the $ 5 fee at the little house after the greenhouse or get scolded by the groundskeeper. We hadn’t yet walked 3 feet out of the greenhouse when she beckoned us to check in, which we were certainly planning on doing.
