At a park with friends I was introduced to the card game Fluxx. It changed my life. It changed my voice too once I started talking like a pirate for the remainder of the game. In Pirate Fluxx, and all other flavors of Fluxx, the rules constantly change so you don’t know who will win or sometimes even how to win… till someone does. I’ve since encountered the Martian version and bought the Zombie and Monty Python versions. I haven’t seen Monty Python; I have seen zombies. I’ve been one, on Thriller night. The company makes a wide array of games, and a cool thing about that is the tie-in products. There are many optional promo cards for Fluxx that refer to and take themes from their other games, adding to the already clever imagination and turbulence. Unlike the prices of promos from trading card games(think Magic, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.), Fluxx promos range from just $ 1 to special sets of 7 cards for $ 3. I meant to get the Jewish set for Passover. Although the prices are as low as $ 1, shipping from their online store starts at $ 4. So a purchase of $ 1 to $ 7 sees anywhere from over half to four times the cost of the merchandise go toward shipping. More than $ 8 or $ 9 in your cart and shipping begins to rise. I wouldn’t mind if it weren’t for inconsistency in packaging. I’ve been mailed items in a paper envelope which was itself in a bubble envelope, and I’ve been mailed items in just a paper envelope. When the things being sent are thin collectible cards and postcards, surrounding them by only an everyday envelope isn’t enough protection from the rigors of postal sorting, transport, and delivery. I’ve called HQ before with questions on possible restocks or reprints of old items. They were quite easygoing and friendly. At least, I think they were. I was right by a MUNI stop and couldn’t hear portions of the dialogue(read: monologue).
