I needed something quick and inexpensive for lunch that I could take home and eat(providing my own utensils/drink) and I had been craving chicken. I hadn’t gone to a Chicken Express for a long time. In the past, I went there when I craved decent and slightly oily chicken and/or sides…(Don’t judge me! You probably crave decent greasy food sometimes too!) they seemed to have lowered the grease ratio and upped the taste! Great chicken, inexpensive. Strangely — I had to wait over 15 minutes for the express chicken tenders combo. That was my only complaint though. I also got poppers(jalepeno poppers) instead of a drink. They were crispy, cheese was melted perfectly and stayed inside until I bit in. Fantastic. If you haven’t been there in a while: give ‘em a shot!

The only reason for the low review is for the extreme rude service that we and other customers received while dinning. The person taking orders on the headphones seemed to be arguing with someone at the window. Then he ignored his manager when she told him to be quiet. The whole staff kinda had attitudes after that. But food was quick, fast, hot, and yummy as always!

Stopped by and got the number one combo which includes a 4 piece chicken tenders and a large drink and choice of side. The chicken tenders are very good with a nice crunchy layer of batter. I chose okra for my side and they were crunchy but quite bland. Probably will choose another side next time I stop by. I also did not like their biscuits the one I got was quite small and not so tasty. On the bright side the drive thru is very fast and efficient. Overall the meal itself was quite filling.

Chicken was cooked nicely yet lacked any seasonings. Didnt care much for the white gravy. I’m sticking to popeyes.

For my Unilocal friend Robert; So, your Unilocal friend starts talking about fried chicken all of the sudden, bringing back memories of when Carney’s over on South College used to be a Youngblood’s Fried Chicken, why doesn’t Babe’s come to town, etc. Had to do some real soul searching to honestly try to think of whom has the best fried chicken in Aggieland. And had to do some research to keep up to date. Went through the drive through and picked up(3) Chicken Breasts and a(7) piece strips. It was easily enough food for three people at $ 14. The breasts were large and succulent, nice and juicy and the breaded skin like crack, similar to what Cartman experienced on South Park. I think I could eat a pound of just the skin. All this came with an ample cup of gravy and some warm flaky biscuits. As insanely, outrageously expensive KFC has before, for quality and taste for price this blows KFC away big time. It also proves that there’s room for another restaurant in College Station to beat the hell out of everyone else by topping Chicken Express. Stover Café did at one time, but not sure if they still serve it… Will have to check that out soon.

The lobby is pretty clean and well maintained. The food is pretty good but kinda expensive. It is kinda exactly the same as Raising Canes or Laynes with the exception that they use gravy instead of the Tangy orange sauce that the other places use. They also serve pickle chips which are a little too salty compared to southern style eateries like Wings and More. The main point i want to make about this place is that they use Dr Pepper that is made from real cane sugar. Its pretty far from campus so thats the only reason I would not go eat here often but it was a very good place.

Ooh. Didn’t think that digression on Dr. P. was cool? Ha. I just saw a story on HLN(CNN Headline news) about a man having found an old ledger containing a recipe for Dr Pepper: «D Peppers Pepsin Bitters», which a Dr Pepper ‘spokesperson’ claimed was a bitter digestive bearing the Dr Pepper namehttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090504/ap_on_re_us/us_dr_pepper_auction. The ledger/recipe goes on auction in Dallas May 13. Maybe then the prune juice mystery will be cleared up – or not.

Chicken Express: an apropos name. I always get hot wings, nicely made, and not saucy like buffalo wings. The fried okra is okay, but the real stars of the sides are the poppers and the corn nuggets. Corn nuggets are awesome. It’s fast, cheap and a decent alternative to a national conglomerate… it’s a regional conglomerate. Could be worse.
