Sometimes the food is good, and sometimes it’s not. Consistency is my issue with this place! Being the only place for Indian food on campus, they should’ve done a better job. The food looks too oily. And NO, Indian food is not always that oily. So they could improve on that.

Heard about Vindaloo through Unilocal and decided to give it a try the next time I was on campus and had forgotten my lunch. The way it worked when I was there was you had an option of rice or naan, a choice of protein, a choice of vegetable, and a dollop of either mild, medium, or spicy sauce. Optional sides included extra naan and samosas. The portion was huge, and the taste was pretty good. The curry chicken I got was mild and nicely spiced, though I liked the potato and tofu that I got with it better. The medium sauce had only a hint of heat to it. I’ll probably try the spicy when I go back as I like my spicy sauces to really pack a punch. I also got an order of samosas and they were just ok. The potato and pea filling in the samosas was very, very mushy… so much so that it felt like it had been pureed before frying, but they were still spiced nicely. The only major disappointment was the rice. It was very undercooked and extremely crunchy. I know another review mentioned that they had overcooked rice when they went, so I’m hoping they’ll get the technique down pat in the near future. Considering this is a counter in the food court area of the MSC I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a nice option when I don’t feel like bringing my lunch and the prices aren’t too bad. With the side of samosas my total came out to just over $ 9. In the future I’ll probably skip the sides as I wound up with too much food for me to finish and $ 6.50 is a more reasonable option for a poor grad student like myself.

I found Vindaloo by following the smell of curry and walking in the opposite direction of students carrying what smelled like Indian food. Picked the Halal chicken and had my lunch plate in my hand in like less than a minute. Super fast service and it was good, just a tad too expensive in my opinion. Make sure to get your own fork cause they are not in the package. They are on the counter.
