I wandered in to this spot last night through an unmarked door to the left of the main entrance to La Baguette. Walking up the stairs I was reminded of a quaint, chic, French bistro with a which is a nice change from the regular restaurant/bar scene in Colorado Springs. Sitting at the bar I was warmly greeted by bartender David and a nice European beer menu. A short time later I was also greeted by Inga who was working behind the bar. Both were very friendly and hospitable and Accompanying my beer came a bread plate that was a perfect compliment to the sweet maltiness of the Belgian Abbey style brew. The bread plate included a couple different styles of bread served with infused olive oil and three other savory spreads. Unfortunately I was limited on time there so I could only stop in briefly but my experience and conversations with both David and Inga were pleasant and I plan on returning to say hello and try another one of those European beers!

Love the ambience of this hidden wine bar. We came on a Saturday night and we’re one only two couples there. Good wine selection and the desserts are great. Try the Schausse(sp?), a layered crème and raspberry cake.

If you’ve never been to France, this is the place to experience the country’s offhand elegance and friendliness with wine and food. The café’s mood is intimate and convivial, good for date night or a group birthday celebration. The wine list is cultivated by true aficionados, who find the most outstanding affordable bottles, and then offer the wine at a fair mark-up. Complimentary bread and pâté/tapenade/spread. Attentive and knowledgeable wait staff, but as you’d experience in most of France, not at all pretentious: the owners have the attitude that yes, wine is an elixir, but an elixir for daily life. So drink up and enjoy its many pleasures.
