I went to 1839 for dinner on a weeknight. First thing I noticed was the crowd, it is not the college crew you get in many places downtown. It also was not as crowded as downtown restaurants/bars. They have a decent menu, and I was in the mood for a burger. One of the cool things about 1839 Taphouse is the sheet they give you to customize your burger or chicken sandwich. I ordered mine with cheese, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, bacon and ketchup. Most of the toppings are included in the price, with a few costing extra. I ordered a single burger, which was $ 3.99(without a side). Not too bad price-wise. It tasted good, but the burger patties are thin so the bread overwhelmed the meat a little. I would recommend getting at least a double if you order a burger. For a side, I split some jalapeño homemade chips, which were good and has just the right amount of kick. These cost $ 2.99, so total my meal was about $ 7. Very decent pricing for dinner. The beer selection was interesting and different than what you will see most places. The waitress was knowledgable about their beer selection and offered some good recommendations. My only complaint is that, while the service for most of the meal was great, our waitress disappeared later in the evening. We had to wait more than 20 minutes after we were done eating to get the check, and long after that to pay and leave. I understand things happen, so this won’t keep me from visiting in the future.

Wow. cold food. I first ordered a tea and has to ask for sugar twice. Of course I never got any. So to save trouble I easier to change to coke and I will add after I recieved it. that www neglected as well. My companion Ordered the nachos. Even the chicken in it seemed to not even be warmed up. Our waitress lousy. My cheeseburger not the worst, but nothing to recommend either. Try somewhere else if you have options.

This is the ONLY bar in Columbia my boyfriend and I will go to. I can’t stand the constant flow of college kids yelling and bad techno blaring. You won’t find this anywhere near Taphouse. You can actually relax and have a beer! The servers are sweet and the bartender can definitely handle a crowd. In need of a badass burger and a beer? Head to Taphouse!

Don’t understand the hype about this place! The peach fuzz beer that I got did not taste«fruity» as stated and I had some of my boyfriend’s blue moon and it literally tasted the same. Our waitress messed up on our groups’ orders multiple of times. For a huge group of 10 – 15 you know you won’t be able to remember our orders off the top of your head — that’s what a notepad is for. It took over an hour to get the bill for one person in our group, too! The wings here are eh. Don’t waste your time.

My friends and I are always on the lookout for good places in Columbia that aren’t crazy packed on a football Saturday. We gave 1839 Taphouse a try for the first time recently, but it definitely will not be the last. The homemade chips made an awesome appetizer that we nibbled on throughout the meal. I love the ‘build your own’ burgers and nachos. The group I was with had both of those, and said they were great. I had the philly cheese with steak(and jalapenos! extra points for jalapenos!), which was extremely good. I’m not a very adventurous beer drinker, but they had a great selection, and the waitress was helpful in guiding one of my fellow diners to something interesting. If you can tear yourself away from Sub Shop next door, 1839 Taphouse is worth a trip.

Taphouse has one of the better selections of microbrews in Columbia. They usually have 20 beers on tap I think. Great pizza. Be sure to go there for flip night on Tuesdays.

Great specials and fun people, especially on the weeknights(strange, but true). The flip night is especially great, heads you win, tails you pay normal price for your round. There is no décor/theme/ambience to speak of, but hey, it’s the local college town bar.
