Not too good… Ribs tasted like they’ve been sitting out all day. Yellow Bbq sauce is a first for me tastes like nothing but mustard. Wish I would’ve gotten a warning before squirting it on my entire plate of food. Oh well

Delicious food for a fair price, some of the best potato salad around. Stopped for lunch and got bbq sandwhich with mac and potato salad with a tea. Everything was cooked right and delicious.

Tried Big T BBQ on a recent visit to The Columbia area, specifically Fort Jackson. Was dying to try South Carolina BBQ which is much different from our Kansas City style BBQ back home. SC bbq is nothing more than chopped pork with a mustard based sauce. The atmosphere was lacking and seemed more like a truck stop cafeteria. The portions were generous, staff was friendly and the food edible. I ordered the BBQ with Rib dinner. The chopped pork was lacking flavor other than then the generous amounts of mustard sauce the staff poured on it. I would also argue the chopped pork was too finely chopped, more like it was put in a food processor and blended down to a fine mush of meat. I prefer my chopped pork chunkier with bites of meat where it can be eaten with a fork, not chopped so fine that you need a spoon. The ribs were what saves this review. They were meaty, juicy and fell off the bone. Not sure how they were cooked as there wasn’t a smokey flavor or a bark on them, but they were still good. The hash and rice was good. I would give Big T another try. Would also give 3.5 stars.

If I’m ready to pick up BBQ and willing to drive to another county, I’m probably going the vinegar-based route, but if I’m sticking around here in the Metro, Big T’s is the spot for tasty pig. It’s in a strip mall across from the Walmart, but don’t let that deter you. For under $ 7, you’ll get a BBQ sandwich with spicy mustard sauce that will make you think about licking that styrofoam plate. On top of that, two sides! Macaroni and mustard greens are my favorites. I love a good deal, but I love a good deal that’s 100% tasty even more. For years, I’d only had Big T’s when they catered parties — the rice + hash, fried fish, banana pudding and red velvet cake are no joke — I’m really happy I tried out their restaurant. The place can be busy at lunch, so be ready to order when you get up to the counter, but definitely dine in. You don’t want to miss chatting with your neighbors and enjoying checking out the wall full of pictures of lower Richland/Hopkins area sports all-stars who enjoy good eats as much as you do.

I’m probably not the best to judge BBQ since I’m not quite sure what good BBQ is. Some of us tried this place a few nights ago for dinner. Not 100% hard to find, but you need to know where you are looking as this place sits in a strip mall that sits back from the street — it’s in the strip mall next to Kimbrall’s(even though Kimbrall’s is not connected to the strip mall) and across from Wal-Mart in Garner’s Ferry(about 1.5 miles from I77 going towards Sumter). What really floored me when I first walked in was the collards(I believe). when you first walk in, you wouldn’t think there’s much seating, as there is a handful of booths in the restaurant, but they have a room off to the side with more tables, and in our case this was the better option as we had just over 10 people in our group. Food wise, the sandwich I got was just OK. My usual BBQ fare us pulled pork with the mustard base BBQ sauce.

How can anyone say that«this is a good Bar-B-Que place?» and know anything about BBQ is a mystery to me. It is dried out, over cooked and lacking in flavor, but that’s just the best part of this place. I’ve never had a hot meal here because the line is so slow,(that’s why the lines appear to be long). Every time I get to the register, my meal has been sitting on my tray for a minimum of ten minutes. That’s when the cashier has no change and you’ll wait another five or ten minutes while they find some singles or a roll of quarters, all the while they allow people to cut in line in front of you to order a side, get ice, change their order or sell subscriptions to the«Saturday Evening Post.» The staff, in general, seems annoyed that you dared to come into their place and bother them. The last thing they want is having to put up with anyone who just wants a nice BBQ dinner, served hot in a timely manner with friendly customer service.

I ordered takeout from here. I placed in order for fried pork chops with 2 sides. When i placed the order the cashier asked me my two sides. i sit and wait. five minutes later i get asked the same question from an older female working there, i reply. 5 minutes later i get asked the same question. What the hell. They should’ve wrote it down when I initially ordered it. I get called that the food is ready 5 minutes after that. I grab the food and noticed that no plasticware was issued so i ask for it. Then the cashier tells me that she forgot my dinner roll and pass me one along with the plastic fork and spoon to throw in my bag. Now to the food. it was good. Real good. I enjoyed the fried pork chops and the rice with whatever they mixed it with was good as well. The sides were meh though. I don’t think I’ll be back.

We had a group of 30 folks and they were kind enough to give us our own room. That is the highlight.

I got the BBQ sandwich combo with Mac n cheese and collards. It was deee-lish! The spicy sauce isn’t too hot and the sides are like homemade! The only concern I have is that there is no hand soap in the restroom, just a gigantic container of hand sanitizer at the cash register. Isn’t that a DHEC violation? There’s a sink with soap next to the server and I observed her washing her hands.

Awesome!!! Hash, pulled pork, collard greens, pork ribs, and corn bread. The server kept scooping mounds of juicy pork and hash(over rice). A wonderful sample of the many Southern soulful foods they offer. One star less for yesterday’s ribs weren’t that fresh.

Lived in cola for 5 years and found Big T’s the last year or so that I lived there. I get the same thing, pulled pork sandwich basket with fries and slaw(sometimes Mac and cheese or banana pudding). I’ve found this to be the best South Carolina style pulled pork I’ve tried while living down there. I love it When we drive down south we make it a point to drive down I77 so we can stop in for lunch. I’ve had meals there at least 10 times since moving away in 2004

Good BBQ, good sides. The place was empty when I visited, but it was mid-afternoon. Staff was friendly and I enjoyed chatting with them. I’ll be back when I’m on this side of town!

Best pulled pork BBQ in South Carolina that I tried. When visiting the area we were trying to find somewhere fast, but good and wanted to see what South Carolina BBQ was all about. This is an old fashioned mom and pop shop style of cooking, it looked sketchy at first but once we got in and ordered some food it turned out to be a good experience. You walk in, grab a tray and tell the employee what you want, pork, tenderloin, bbq, ribs, collards, carrots, cornbread, and different sides depending on the day. Then you pay and sit down with your tray. It was some of the best pulled pork I’ve ever had, was nothing like Texas pork, this was very sweet tasting and had a light brown mustard sauce which was amazing and had a zing to it. We were the only ones dining in but they had about 30 people come in and pick up to-go orders while we sat and the shop owner knew everyone who walked in the door by their first names so it’s definitely a locals spot and a hidden gem. Go check it out.

It’s never a good sign when someone asks you what you think of your food and you respond with«Eh… it’s OK.» Big T is near the end of the strip mall across the street from Wal-Mart on Garners Ferry Road. It’s a basic diner place with not a lot of ambiance. They did have some local memorabilia on the wall but it was minimal. They have a main dining area with booths and a few tables and chairs and another larger room off to the right that has more tables and chairs. When my friend and I arrived there were only 2 people in front of us at the counter. You tell them what you want and they put it on a styrofoam plate(eat in) or in a styrofoam box(to go) and then you pay at the end. There is a menu on the wall above the counter but there is also a menu taped to the counter where you order. It was confusing. It was my first time there so I was looking at the menu on the wall but when the guy in front of me stepped away I see this new menu that appeared to have more«combos» or plates on it. So then I had to decide quickly what to order. I don’t even know exactly what it was called… I think it was a «Small T BBQ Plate». I asked the lady behind the counter the difference between the Big T and the Small T and was told it was the price. So yeah… thanks. I ended up with BBQ over rice with 2 sides(green beans and mac and cheese). My friend got something similar but had hash over rice. We both said we were eating in but were given a to go container anyway. When I went to pay the person at the register wasn’t any more friendly. The BBQ and BBQ sauce was good. I thought it was a bit dry and there were large chunks in mine that were tough but on the whole it was OK. The dreaded OK. The green beans were just green beans and the mac and cheese was gummy. It wasn’t exactly hot so that may have had something to do with it. I did taste my friends hash and it was tasty and well flavored. While we ate so many people showed up that the line was literally out the door. They must be doing something right but I don’t know what it is. I don’t think I’ll be going back to find out either.

This place is wonderful. The sauce is delicious. My dad got a double cheeseburger that he could barely finish and it was only $ 4.50. Unreal prices for the large portions and it was all really good.

I’m a Yankee but I’ve had my share of barbeque. Dry, pork ribs tough and was like jerky. My greens must have had sugar added and were horrible. My wife got the pulled pork which apparently is all they do well here. Consider yourself warned.

Great«mustard» BBQ. Loved the hash and rice. Slaw was good, but not much of it. Cornbread tasted great. Sweet tea was just right. Lemon pound cake for dessert… Mmmm. good!
