I miss you, Goatfeathers! Please re-open soon. I was glad to visit the day before they closed last weekend, and their menu is not to miss. I love the duck tacos as well as everything else I’ve tried there. Drinkwise, you need to try the daydream. Hypnotiq… never had it before this place, but now I’m going to seek it out. I love the crazy artwork, especially the goat painting. The lights flicker or use a dimmer which can be kind of fun when you’re buzzed and not sure if it’s you or the surroundings that are spinning. Definitely make a point of coming here if/when they re-open!

I cannot get over how nice everyone is in the South! Another bar, another incredibly nice bartender! It’s gonna get a little embarrassing rattling off the drinks I had here(because it was probably too many), but the ones I will note was the excellent dirty martini I had. Seriously, gin martini’s can sometimes be just a little too much for me. But this was made to my liking(exxxtra dirty!). I really liked the vibe. It reminded me of hanging out at certain friends houses who wanted their rooms to be like little hippie dens. Dark curtains, cushy seats and the sweet smell of coffee. Wait, coffee? Yep, I kept smelling coffee, without realizing it was in the name of the place and finally put it together that as well as alcohol, they also serve coffee! Not that I had any…

This place was recommended to me by a fellow Unilocaler while I was in town for work for one evening. I’m sure the recommendation was based on my affinity for craft brew and general laid-back-iness. Cruised in here on a Tuesday evening and it was understandably dead… maybe 4 people there. When I found out the Tuesday special I was a bit shocked though. They have $ 2 draft on all but maybe 2 of the beers. We’re talking about some good beers too. That would be enough to draw me in let alone a city full of broke ass students looking to get Tuesday drunk on the cheap… where you at Cola? We stayed for a bit but, cheap drinks can only mask the lack of people for so long so we moved on to do some other 5points-ploring.

I don’t think they offer a PhD in Mixology, but if they do, Opie the Bartender holds a doctorate in his craft. Best cocktails in Cola. The décor is unique and keeps me guessing. My favorite is naked girl, prone on rhinoceros, which is probably not what the artist named it, but it’s what I now call the painting.

I was a big fan of Goatfeathers when I was in High School and College, because it was one of the few places I didn’t get carded and could drink underage. And it does have a cool vibe and clientele. But after I became friends with some of the staff, I learned something unsettling: the whole place is under video surveillance at all times. Everything you do there, every move you make is recorded. Maybe I’m naïve … maybe that’s common everywhere in town … but that kind of put me off Goatfeathers.

One of my favorite coffee/dessert place. I always order the iceed biscotti coffee with milk and it’s soo good! And their tiramisu is the best I’ve had. Also their godiva cheese cake, newyork cheese cake, and berry cheesecake is good also. They’re prices are not bad and I think Monday and Tuesday the desserts are half off.

All the bartenders here have a great personality! I enjoy going here right around 4pm to get 40% a lot of food items. The drink menu is fantastic and has a lot of drinks you normally don’t see such as Absinthe and unique vodkas infused with peppers. I also like the fried olives and the Guinness wild mushroom dip to start out with. Take your time when ordering the main course as the menu is huge. Sit at the bar for quicker service, the kitchen doesn’t open until after 5pm. This place is located right across the street from Yesterday’s Tavern in five points. Go here and have some fun, you don’t see many places like this it’s very divey and eccentric. In my top 5 bars in Columbia hands down!

Awesome duck tacos and great atmosphere inside. Good prices and quality food/drinks. By the looks of the outside I always thought it was a dive bar – boy was I wrong. This place is a full up restuarant with a great atmosphere! Not to be missed!

Food was great. got chicken pizza and crab cakes. but the service was terrible I think the waiter forgot about us right after we were seated. my friend had to get up and go find someone to take our drink orders. Then after we were finished with our food, the waitress cleared the table but didn’t bring the check. we waited and waited. and again, my friend had to get up and go get her to get our check. horrible service, but good food and cool atmosphere. I’m thinking it was her first night on the job.

This place was a favorite during my visit to Columbia. I spent a late afternoon happy hour here alone at the bar. That probably sounds sad, but I seriously enjoyed myself reading, relaxing and sipping Bulliet bourbon on the rocks. At 40% off, since everything is 40% off during happy hour. It’s a quintessential hipster dive bar, but also a coffee bar. The bartender was immensely attractive in that tattooed yoga instructor way(I may have imagined that tattoos, but it’s my fantasy so you’ll have to deal with it). The walls are covered in art, there’s virtually no natural light and the ceiling is pressed tin. The red string lighting that was up at the time placed the vibe somewhere between festive holiday funtimes and brothel. It was December and the soundtrack was quirky, jazzy Christmas music. When«You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch» came on, I was sold forever.

Was perusing the internet for dessert places being that I live in NYC and haven’t lived here in 10 or so years and was hoping to find a good place that wasn’t Nonnah’s(like the place but wanted different). This place came up as second in my search which struck me as unusual in reading the reviews and the description. But I did see several posts that referred to it as having good desserts. Well, I was quite disappointed. It wasn’t bad desserts but didn’t deserve any recognition over any other restaurant that sells desserts so I was confused as to why it shows up in a search for dessert places.

Cons: slow service. Old tasting crab dip and crab cakes. Overcooked and oversalted calamari. Funky Guinness mushroom dip. Under seasoned spinach dip. Pro: Good wine. Good hot tea. Decent bread. Will not return ever.

**It looks like one of the people I was with when this happened already wrote a review(see«Jenn M.‘s review of Karina-the worst server ever»), but since I’d already typed this up before realizing, I figured… what the hell** Let me start off this review by saying that I’ve been a huge Goatfeathers fan in the past. Their food is good, the bar atmosphere is awesome, and the servers are attractive. I’ve been there on several occasions for their Sunday discount nights and have been pretty pleased with the service I had received thus far. With that being said, I have to talk about the awful experience I had there last night when I was having drinks with coworkers. We started out at a small table with a really sweet and attentive server. A friend called and said she would be able to join us and, as the table was a little cramped, we asked our server if there would be any issue with us moving to a larger table. She said it would be fine and we would be taken care of by a different server. After we moved and my friend arrived, our new server took our drink orders, brought the first round, and then after we finished those, asked if we would like another. Everyone at the table ordered and then quickly got their drinks… except for me. When she came back to get the next round of drink orders about 15 minutes later, I mentioned that she had never brought the vodka/soda I had ordered and she apologized and quickly brought one over… As soon as I took a sip I realized it was bourbon and not vodka in my drink and, as I was getting a little irritated at this point by all the mix-ups(there were only five of us in the group, come on), I got up and walked over to the bar and asked her to please fix it. When it came time to settle up the tab, she came over with the checks and asked each of us if we could list everything we had and how many to make sure she had the checks right. At this point, we were all several drinks in the hole and weren’t expecting to have to keep track of our drink tallies, so we expressed our frustration, as we had been told it wouldn’t be an issue when we moved tables. She said she would figure it out and then brought the checks back to us but they were still wrong. As the server walked away to fix the check AGAIN, my friend made a loud remark about her intelligence(we’d been drinking and were feeling pretty annoyed). I’m assuming the server heard this because when she finally brought the checks back, we all noticed that our totals had changed and when my friend mentioned it, the server replied«Yep, I added gratuity on automatically.”(on a party of five?!?) and then marched away. One of my bolder friends had had enough and got up to speak to the bartender behind the counter. She explained what happened, but he tried to act like that was standard procedure to add gratuity on automatically when a table moves, but we were NEVER told that when we asked if it would be an issue to move and she didn’t add it on until my friend made the comment. In my opinion she only added gratuity because she knew she wouldn’t be getting much of a tip from us,(and rightly so, as the service was terrible), but the whole point of a tip is the OPTION of rewarding excellent service. Full disclosure: I’ve never been a server before, but my friends and I do work in the hospitality industry and we know that sometimes you are forced to deal with difficult customers, but the staff handled it completely unprofessionally(the guy behind the bar just made excuses and the server talked crap about us loudly to him so everyone could hear… awkward). I’m not gonna lie, I probably will go back to Goatfeathers again because overall I have had good experiences there(obviously I’ll avoid that server like the plague), but in these tough economic times it blows my mind that a bar thinks they can afford to treat customers this way. After reading a couple other reviews on here, it sounds like some people feel the same, and if enough people decide to take their money elsewhere, Goatfeathers won’t survive much longer.

Cool atmosphere with a large liquor, beer, and food menu. Very affordable, though I do not prefer this as my go-to coffeeshop. It is very dark, and it reminds me a lot of a speakeasy. My house roast of the day was very bold, and it was 40% during happy hour. Wi-fi is free, and the joint is not too crowded for a mid-afternoon cup of joe. Goatfeathers may deserve a return visit, but it is definitely not my scene for a quick drop in. It leans more toward the hipster/dark side. Some people really like this, but it is not really for me. Perhaps more the music and artsy crowd. Good coffee, though.

I absolutely LOVE that place. I don’t know what it is about their atmosphere but it makes me want to go back every time. They have a wide variety of beer, full bar and delicious food! The bartenders are super nice and very helpful. If you are a smoker, they have two small tables outside with chairs. Oh and did I mention that during their happy hour from 4 – 7 pm everything is 40%?

Very cute coffeebar tucked inside of 5 points! If you want to avoid the college scene go on a weeknight and you’ll find a relaxed social atmosphere. The background jazz music was great! I had a machiatto and loved it! Also very friendly staff.

I love this place. It reminds me of places in the city with the random décor/dark wood/rude wait staff. The only thing I will say is that my friend and I ALWAYS wanted to go eat brunch here, and for some reason, it seemed to be randomly closed when we would try to go on Sunday. Although the service is rumored to be bad, I had a particularly great experience there one night. My boyfriend was ignoring me and talking to his friend, then turned to me and said«you’re not going to join in the conversation?» The bartender didn’t hesitate to tell him that he was sitting there ignoring me. I love it! I think his name is Orlando.
