My friend took me here and I got to saw not bad. The services was on point throughout our stay. The food was pretty good. Definitely coming back here the next time I’m in the city!

This place has my favorite GENERALSCHICKEN!!! I haven’t found anyone that has it as great as there with not as much breading. I will say that the service is slow though. I came into Columbia to visit and went to eat and it took a long time to get food from the servers. They’ve also redid the interior and got rid of the piano player which I used to love!

Offered same thing like before but with way less food. I talked about it to manager, she brought back the Sam plate said that this is the amount they offer. Very negative attitude and definitely don’t recommend here. Taste just went bad time after time. Never gonna go back again.

What can I say? This place is spotty. I will say that this place is my favorite Chinese place to go to in columbia. However, that doesn’t mean this place doesn’t have it’s flaws. Let’s get the cons out of the way first. The food quality changes all the time and I’m not really sure why. I have always gotten the general tso’s and one time I got it the chicken wasn’t even breaded like how it usually is which was strange and the food always varies in flavor sometimes its bland sometimes is too saucy and thin so be aware. I do like their salt and pepper shrimp because the shrimp are actually a larger size but its breaded instead of coming with the shell on like I’ve had before out of town in a legit chinese place. The service is ehhh, once again spotty. sometimes we get great service sometimes they treat us like we don’t even exist. Now with the pros. Ambience is excellent! as far a chinese goes this place is classy and clean by far and is not the typical small take out place, I would actually sit in and eat here. Now I know this sounds weird but I like the way they package their take out orders too like some other places in town they put it in a paper bag and staple it so it stay HOT when I get home to eat it which I do appreciate. Overall for me the pros outweigh the cons because when the food is good it is the best chinese in columbia when it is bad its like any other place in columbia. Also it’s worth saying that I normally order take out and have only eating in a handful of times because for some reason I just think chinese tastes better on my couch at home in front of the TV. For this place is worth going to get food. If it’s your first time here and you are planning on eating in just know that it may be a risk. it may be good it may be eh.

Exhausted after a long day traveling on my journey cross country. Couldn’t stand the thought of another fast food meal. Very close to the hotel, we decided to give it a try. Situated in a strip shopping center, they have made the best of the décor in a very basic commercial space. Updated and modern without all of the usual décor trappings of a typical chinese restaurant. The staff were incredibly open and welcoming. Our server arrived quickly. We weren’t very hungry this close to closing time, so just ordered Calamari, Moo Shu veggies(comfort food) and chicken lettuce wraps. There was still too much food for the two of us to eat at one sitting. The Moo Shu veggies was definitely comfort food and something I really wanted after a long, stressful day. I was delightfully surprised that they didn’t use the requisite green and red peppers so often seen in vegetarian chinese meals. Very tasty! Even though I have one more very long day to go, this went home as leftovers. Calamari were OK – not the best I’ve had, but relatively pleasing. DH had chicken lettuce rolls and they were large enough for a meal. I was very pleased and will return here if my travels ever take me back to Columbia.

Very disappointing. Ordered the Springfield Cashew Chicken — found a BONE in the meal. Showed to server, they refused to take it off the bill or discount. Also, they didn’t even apologize for it or show any kind of remorse. Terrible service.

Cool tea cups. Highlight is the extensive tea menu. Spring rolls are recommended due to their fresh stuffing and exceeded expectations. Wontons are enjoyable and spicy. The steamed dumplings were quite average. Establishment not recommended for a dumpling crawl or the service. Free fortune cookies are also worth noting.

Best Chinese food in Columbia! And consistently so. Believe me, I’ve tried them all. Best crab rangoons, hands down, as well as Hot & Sour soup. The ingredients appear to be much better quality than other Chinese food restaurants. Semi-classy inside, would be a good place to take a date. They also do take out(but no delivery)(However you can use the OrderUp service to get it delivered). And when I’ve checked the city restaurant inspections, they are the only Chinese restaurant that has had no critical marks against them. So they are clean in prepping the food. Love em!

We visited Columbia, MO for a business trip and had heard about this wonderful restaurant and the quality of the food. The recommendations were spot on! The service, food and presentation of the meal was excellent. My family eats Chinese food every other week and I can say that the food here is one of the best I have ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant!

I lived in Columbia for years without discovering house of chow… which makes me so sad! Everything is amazing here! My husband and I really enjoy the variety of tea. I recently had the curry chicken and it was very good.

Can’t think of one drawback to this place. It’s awesome. Make sure to order the steamed dumplings. They are amazing and homemade.

I did not like this food. It smelled strange even though it tested… OK. So many people have told me that they like it, though, that I may give it another chance. But my first experience was not good.

We enjoyed everything we ordered. Service was good, the meal was brought out quickly. The food was authentic, we were pleasantly surprised. Coming from NY, we are used to being disappointed when we travel, but everything was delicious.

This has been«the» Chinese restaurant from which I grade every chinese restaurant from, no matter the budget or Zagat rating. The food has been consistently wonderful and is in the process of upgrading and expanding the menu. I love the choices of teas now. I never knew there could be more than one tea served at a restaurant in Missouri. A real treat and i encourage you to try a different one every time you visit!

I have loved this place for 30 years. Always great service. Always well prepared foods from the chicken dishes to the unique bowls of noodles. BESTHOTANDSOUR soup in the country. I always try soups other places but NOTHING compares to this restaurants quality and taste. A must visit in Columbia if you are looking for great, affordable Chinese cuisine.

I’ve been coming to House of Chow since I was in HS. I love their authentic menu, and their specials are constantly changing. Plus, if you have an affinity for Springfield-style Cashew Chicken, this is the place to get your fix!

My husband and I came here for dinner after an early football game this year. Our two normal spots were full so this was our next choice. My husband(of 20 years) reminded me that we had our first date here. The service was a bit slow to start, but once we were acknowledged, the service was fine. We got the family dinner which included a $ 9.45(or less) entrée plus soup and an egg roil for $ 11.95. Seemed a bit pricey, but I’m used to the lunch specials at Chinese restaurants. I ordered the Chicken in Garlic Sauce and my husband ordered a Shrimp dish(I think the Shrimp Sauteed in Spicy Sauce). Both entrees were freshly made. My husband thought his was OK(too many onions and not enough vegetables) but he probably just ordered the wrong thing. My entrée was very good. The hot and sour soup was really good with pieces of meat and a good flavor. The portions were not huge — usually we have food left over when we go to Chinese for dinner. I’d come back here. The food, atmosphere and service are good, but it might be priced a dollar or two high for what you get.

If this is the best Chinese food in Columbia, it is hard to believe. I wanted to know how the tofu was prepared in the special, and could barely get any information out of the waitress. It turned out it was rolled in some kind of batter and then very lightly fried? but was very undone in the middle, actually almost cold. And the mushrooms in the sauce were diced so small they were unrecognizable. Not at all what I expected. My friend was happy with her black mushroom dish, and the beans were crisp and the mushrooms tasty, but the service was not great, I had better«Chinese» food when I picked out my own ingredients at HuHot, and it was quite a bit cheaper. Definitely not going back here.

Usually very good. Best Chinese Food in Columbia. Tonight service was below average. Soup and appetizers came out about 2 minutes before main entrée. I seriously just broke the crispy noodles into my soup when they set down main entrée. My tea glass went empty, stayed empty and wound up asking for a to go cup just to quench my thirst. Still, the only place to get all white meat chicken dishes and still my overall favorite!
