We were visiting my uncle in Maryland, and he wanted to treat us to lunch. He told us about a great Chinese restaurant, which is right here. Since we were really hungry for lunch, we came here to eat. Here we go. We came in, and was greeted by the receptionist. We were then seated in a table right by a fish tank(more on that later). Moments later, our server came by and gave us complimentary tea and took our drink orders. I ordered soda, but everyone else ordered water. When she came back, she took our food orders. The food was delivered in a way that was meant to be shared with others. One of the entrees arrived in a sizzling skillet. Others were served on regular plates. I didn’t remember the names of all the entrees since everything was spoken in Chinese. I remember the black pepper and sesame chicken, and the General Tso’s chicken. Other entrees included spicy beef, fish & shrimp. Cooked and sauteed lettuce was available in the center of the table. A bowl of rice was served too. I didn’t eat the seafood entrees. The General Tso’s chicken tasted much better than the one on the Anthem Of The Seas, and the black pepper and sesame chicken was packed with flavor. The spicy beef was also packed with flavor, and the sauce itself mixed really well with the fresh rice. The lettuce was fine. Everyone here pretty much enjoyed our meals. There was no need for us to order dessert at all. However, in the end, we were served fresh orange slices and fortune cookies. In the lobby part of the restaurant, a decorative water fountain with lily pads and plants was positioned in the center. That looked really nice. In the room where we dined, they had a huge aquarium that contained neat, looking fish. The bathrooms appeared to be okay. What was worth noting is that the bathrooms contained a unique, protective electronic toilet seat cover. Yeah, I’ve never seen that before, and it would be cool if all the restaurants installed something like that. Our server was very attentive. She had a positive attitude, and made sure that everything here was okay. As far as negativity is concerned, there was none. Overall, the service and food was great. We will consider coming back here again when we’re together.

Over priced and up charged. The food tastes old and dry. Veg Fried rice is OK. I’ve heard others say this place is the best Chinese good in Columbia, but I’ve been here a few times and am not going back anytime soon. I’d stick with place around the corner…

I go to this place whenever I’m in Columbia. This place has been pretty consistent. Their Hunan Combination(stirfried chicken breast, beef slices, shrimp with broccoli, mushrooms, carrots, water chestnuts and mini corn in brown sauce) is really tasty. Do not hesitate to tell them to go light on the oil and make sure they don’t add MSG ;). They tend to over do it sometimes. The ladies in the front that take the take out orders are friendly and nice.

I’ve been coming here for 4 years and I’ve not been disappointed. This isn’t your carry-out Chinese spot. They’ve variety of hunan, Cantonese and other types of dishes. The also have a bar and serve many Chinese and Korean liquors such as soju. Hunan does offer carry out and online ordering is available. Parking lot is huge and there’s outdoor seating as well. Dining in, customers enjoy hot tea and are given orange slices and fortune cookies after meal. I truly love this place. Definitely a Columbia gem. :-)

I have to say this place is very mediocre. The decoration was nice so 1 star added but then the disappointment came. We came here for my cousin birthday and tried several dishes and only one dish was good which is the fried rice(chicken and swordfish). The other dishes(fried rockfish, clams, mushroom, seafood sir fried noodles, baked chicken, and pan fried noodles) were subpar. Food isn’t bad but definitely not good. So for decorations and the seafood fried rice I will rate this place with 2 stars. The service is also not bad and not good. I have been to many better Chinese restaurants.

You know I rarely ever say this but I truly believe that Howard county should investigate this restaurant as a potential health hazard. Last night there was this wormy looking thing in my sesame chicken. I asked the waitress and she said it was the root of a radish but it felt too squishy to me to be a part of any vegetable and it looked just like an earthworm. I could be wrong but I wouldn’t be shocked if I was right. The stereotype of Asian restaurants being seemingly dirty is alive and well at Hunan manor. The thing is the food is really good which is why I’m doing two stars here. But I just can’t look past the disgusting bathrooms, unsanitary bar, smelly carpet and glimpses of a very messy kitchen. This is one kitchen id be truly scared to see. But alas I’m not the health department so I have no right making accusations that I cannot provide evidence for. Again the food is good here. I can’t deny that. The veggies are indeed fresh and no one got sick from dinner. But I’d stick with carry out if anything because the place itself makes my skin crawl.

This is a family favorite and is my favorite Chinese restaurant in MD. It’s pretty well known and if you haven’t been here, what are you waiting for! Hunan has ruined me with their hot crispy beef. I have been in search for it all over and no lace comes close to their take on it. It’s sweet, crispy, not spicy and just what makes Chinese American food so addicting. The crispy sesame shrimp is pretty amazing too. Big pieces of shrimp, breaded and fried, then smothered in a rich sweet sauce. I am totally for the diabetic dishes. Hahahah. Both dishes go swimmingly with the chicken fried rice. That is the ultimate meal. This place consistently makes it amazing. So freaking good we always make our way here because it’s just so special.

Really excited to finally eat here, but unfortunately left disappointed. Service was prompt, correct food was brought but not as described. One noodle dish we asked for extra spicy and when we told the server it was not spicy at all(after it was already tasted) he removed it, told us it was the wrong table and we watched him serve the dish to a neighboring table. Schzuan chicken we also ordered spicy and had to return twice as it was sweet and basically inedible. Ended up cancelling that order. Fried rice and soups were so-so but I’m convinced my husband can prepare them better at home and that’s not saying much.

Was here earlier tonight. Shrimp toast was huge and delicious(especially appreciated after the small, overwhelmingly fishy shrimp toast I had at another restaurant last week) with house mustard(spicy kick) and sweet and sour(weak, thin) dipping sauces. Main dishes: Peking duck: crispy skin, perfect plum sauce, green onions, soft pancakes. The person who ordered this is usually the most talkative of our group but hardly said a word, other then«mmmm». Shrimp with cashews, in plum sauce: plump shrimp, plenty of cashews and that delicious sauce. Hardly any was left at the end of the meal. Hunan shrimp: not at all spicy as advertised(though I’m used to that. I think the only place in Columbia that you can actually GET spicy«Asian» fare is Cha Ya) but still tasty. The shrimp were a bit tough but the veggies were crisp. Tried to order dessert but we were apparently too close to closing time as were told the kitchen was closed… Waiter was friendly and funny. I’ve been going here for years and I’ll return. It has definitely changed but still a good place to grab some decent food.

I used to love the food here. Was their with a big group around 10PM. Ordered a lot of food and with some food, I was just dis appointed. Specially, the fried whole shrimp and pepper, fried rice. Oil was old and my fried shrimp came out dark brown.

Great food and fast take out. Long time customer. Food is always good and very genuine Chinese. Favorites are the shrimp fried rice, vegetable bean curd, peanut butter noodles, meatless chicken with cashew nuts. Good for vegetarians. Very efficient and quick service. Extremely packed on Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Chinese New Year.

Hunan Manor used to be a place where people would go for better-than-take-out Chinese food. For years after this period, Hunan Manor was not tasty enough for its higher than takeout prices. Therefore going recently, I had very low expectations for the food here, but I was fortunate enough to have been surprised by the taste and quality. My boyfriend and I ordered a Egg Drop soup, General Tsao’s Chicken, a Salt and Pepper Squid and a Beef Chow Fun. Each dish was created just the way I liked it. The portions were quite generous. We had leftovers enough for two extra meals. The food was really tasty and I would definitely order each of these dishes again. The Salt and Pepper Squid was fried perfectly and the right amount of salt and pepper. The selection of Asian beer and liquor was extensive. My boyfriend and I were able to try a Korean OB beer(pretty uncommon to find), which has hints of Lychee and went well with our greasy, delicious meal. I’ll definitely be back to Hunan Manor whenever my Chinese food craving comes back around.

I wish I could have a nice review about the food and service. I can’t and don’t have one. This restaurant has been here for some time now. It looks very pretty inside. I’ll give this place 1 star for that. I wasn’t happy with the«chefs recommendation», Empress Chicken I think it was. Lol it tasted like a poorly constructed, fake, disgusting, tangy sweet and sour sauce. Over cooked chicken and broccoli is pretty much what it is. The manager James(not sure if he gave me his real name) made sure to make the dining experience worse. The staff was looking at me with their arms crossed as if I was wrong for feeling the way I did. Wow, what a waste of time, money and effort into choosing to eat here. My strong advice is to keep driving on by and pick a restaurant that truly appreciates your business and cares about the food that they serve. I wish they would stand behind their product. They don’t. But I’m sure that they’ll be open for business tomorrow. There isn’t a competitive market for«Chinese Food» in the area. They offered for me to come back and try again. I might. If I do I will post again about my experience.

How the mighty have fallen! I’ve been coming here with my family for the last 15 year and always thought it was the best Chinese restaurant in the area barred none. The staff were somewhat a hit or miss but the food was always great. In the last 6 months we started to notice that quality of food starting to slip. At first some of the dishes were somewhat bland or tasteless. The last couple of time we were here, the food tasted like straw and no one enjoyed any of it. It’s unfortunate that after so many years of coming to this place I will have to find another Chinese restaurant to take my family to.

This place is still good compared to other places, but it’s NOTTHESAME as it once was. The food was done waaaay too quick to have been freshly prepared — including our entrees. The shrimp toast took longer than all the entrees, and I think that must be because it isn’t ordered frequently enough to be lying around. Overall the food was good, but I was disappointed that my eggrolls were only lukewarm, I feel like they are precooked and they may be just giving them a quick dunk in oil before they come out. I don’t much like the idea of that. The service isn’t friendly at all — I tip well and it never real has been outstanding in my opinion. Our waiter(the older man) barely spoke, and even when we spoke to say thank you he hardly even nodded. I think Hunan Manor may be getting a bit big for their britches… just because you have a good thing going doesn’t mean loyal customers can’t find someplace better. Fresh food and customer service are key.

I had one of the most exhilarating lunch today when I ordered the right dishes. It is an epiphany to the way I select my meal. The dishes played together well like a symphony orchestra or a perfect trio singers. Overall Hunan Manor has always delivered good quality foods for the prices. The regular menu is westernized to American palate. I have always enjoyed their secret Chinese menu that has the English translation on their web site only. If you like the flavor combination of Peking Duck and sliced green onion, you will be floored by this meal. If not, you can find your own combo. Do share about it. Crab meat with fish maw soup(similar to egg drop soup) Crispy roasted duck Cantonese stir fried egg noodle with scallion and ginger(add abut of chili in oil for spiciness) Steamed Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce The soup was piping hot but soothing to the soul like an alarm clock telling your senses to get ready to eat. The roasted duck skin was crisp and thin like crunching on the sugar layer of crème brûlée. The sweet and savory combination was cut with the the spiciness of green onion/scallion ginger and chili in the noodle. The steamed broccoli balanced out the oiliness of stir fried noodle and roasted duck. The sweet and savory roasted duck juice was perfect for the noodle. It was like a symphony in my mouth. I cleansed each bite off with hot tea. I was in heaven.
