Always satisfied. Lydia is great. Always listens to what I want while offering suggestions for what she knows will and won’t work so well. Prices are totally reasonable too. Highly recommend.

Lydia is killer! My first time there… cut, style, wash for a VERY reasonable price… my dead ends are gone and my new look is great.

I just moved to Columbia and was worried about being able to find a colorist and stylist who could get my style just as I like it. After poring over some Unilocal reviews, I settled on The Color Amber Salon, and had a most wonderful experience.
I called to schedule on a Monday mid-​day, and they were able to get me in with my preferred stylist by Wednesday. Lydia did my color and cut – she started with a useful consultation wherein I showed her my hellacious roots and told her what I wanted. She brought out little tassels of hair and listened to me explain in great detail what I usually have done. She suggested a highlight and lowlight, explained to me all of my different options and then made some recommendations.
The color she did came out AMAZING, as did the cut. She angled the front and layered the back, stopping at various points to show me, let me run my hands through it and then ask me if I wanted to keep going with more layers. She also touched up my eyebrows and did an excellent job at that, too.
While she worked, she proved very fun and enjoyable to talk to. In addition, the salon’s all-​glass front provided a great shaded view of Senate St., enjoyable from several of the chairs. I will absolutely recommend this salon to my friends and colleagues, and I will no doubt be coming back for more of Lydia’s wonderful stylings!

Lydia did a fabulous job on my hair! I explained what I was looking for, showed her a picture and she listened to every detail. It’s just the right price and I’ve recommended her to every person that asks about my hair. My boyfriend will also be going to her next week and I just know Lydia is my new go to girl! I get my hair cut by Erin and always have a wonderful experience. Staff is very friendly, and Erin does an awesome job with my hair. Several friends go too and are always pleased. Great, affordable salon in downtown Columbia!

I had walked past this salon many times and didn’t pay it much attention since it’s located on the bottom level of a shabby-​looking apartment building. One day, I looked them up online and found they won the Free Times ‘Best of Columbia’ Hair Salon award in 2010 and 2011. Not bad for the salon opening in May 2010.
I checked out the hairstyle photos the stylists post on The Color Amber Salon’s Facebook page. Lovely cuts (men and women), great styles for everyday and bridal, nice color. Some of the stylists are work doing professional photo shoots (e.g. for magazines).
I booked an appointment with Kayla. She was great. Very friendly and fun. She did a great job with my hair and I made another appointment the following week to get my hair colored blonde ombré.
The interior of the salon is small, but actually quite nice and updated. Comfortable chairs and large mirrors. They use mostly Goldwell products, but have others such as Macadamia (similar to Moroccan Oil). There’s a small parking lot as well as metered street parking. If you’re in the downtown/​USC area, definitely check this place out.
