Excellent dinner last night. Food, service, and hospitality were terrific. Jeff and Isaac did an exceptional job.

I stopped at here for the first time the week of New Years for happy hour. The boy and I were doing a classy pub crawl/progressive happy hour with Black Point being stop number 4. It was 2 days before NYE and around 5 pm so most of the establishments that we visited were a little slow on customers, with BP being no different. Sometimes bartenders can seem a bit bothered by your presence when things are slow, but this was not the case here — The bartender was just the right amount of friendly without being weird(you know what I mean). I got a pear cocktail that came with a little dry ice, and I am a sucker for smoke and mirrors so bravo there — and it tasted good too! The best was yet to come with the happy hour appetizers though. We ordered the jalapeño tuna roll and the truffle deviled eggs. Both cost around $ 5 and were an amazing value! The tuna roll was not one of those dainty 4 piece rolls — it was a mammoth 8 –10 piece(I can’t recall exactly due to the wasabi high) roll covered in avocado. It was phemons. The deviled eggs were even better than the sushi. You get 6 nice size egg halves with a filling that most assuredly contains essence of unicorn tears. Excellent salt balance and a truffle flavor to flip for! We had such a good time on our prestigious pub crawl that we decided to spend the next night there to celebrate my birthday. When making the reservation, we let them know we were celebrating and there was a handwritten card on the table the next night — nice touch! So fast forward to Bday dinner: The chef brought us a tasty tuna and avocado amuse bouche to start the meal, it was a quick stop on the way to round 2 of my deviled eggs. We perused the menu pretty quickly because the surf and turf special seemed absolutely perfect. You start with the crab bisque or a salad, 8 oz filet with a lobster crab cake or seared scallops and a dessert of chocolate or cheesecake. I think I remember them saying that the surf and turf special changed seasonally so it could vary on future visit. I was pleasantly surprised to see the scallop pairing as an option, since I’ve been known to say that I’d propose to a perfectly seared sea scallop if mollusk marriage was legal. But I digress.. . I ordered the wedge salad, filet/scallops and chocolate bomb. The fiancé got the crab bisque, same entrée and the salted caramel cheesecake. First course: The wedge was pretty classic except it was served with a French dressing rather than something like blue cheese. Being that I would name my first born child«Ranch» I would have preferred something of the white varietal but it did the French did pair well with the other ingredients. The crab bisque was the real star. It was basically like a bowl of crab with an afterthought of bisque, which is to say it was perfect. The filets were cooked perfectly, his, a respectable medium rare and mine practically mooing. The scallops were also cooked perfectly and very large to accompany the 8 oz filet. Neither of us could finish our steaks and took them to go(see also: breakfast of champions) We also got the desserts to go which I was worried would hinder the flavor/overall blissful sugar experience but they were excellent the next day(see also: breakfast of champions part 2). The chocolate ganache was very rich but full of chocolate flavor and not just basic sweet on sweet. The cheesecake was more on the savory side(I mean not like a turkey leg savory, but much more so than the sweet bomb of chocolate). Without even tasting the food I thought the $ 42 price tag for this meal was a deal but after eating it, I truly can’t believe the price. Neither flavor nor ingredient was skimped! I also had a glass(yes just 1 glass which is unprecedented for me, but please see previous day’s classy pug crawl, and current day’s classy hangover) of red wine. The glass I did have paired perfectly with the filet. It was a red blend coming in at $ 18 a glass which is a little more than I normally spend. If I am going to spend $ 18 on something it is going to be dinner for 2 at Boston Market, or an oil change, or a couple of 3 wick candles at an after Christmas sale or. .. OK I think you get it. Regardless it was the blend featured in a 1 page add(see wine. drink wine) in the back of the menu. I give it an A+. The servers were very attentive and accommodating. They remembered us from the prior day(and not because I danced on the table.. . this time) and after a second trip there, we already felt like regulars. Isaac introduced himself toward the end of dinner and let us know if we ever needed anything when we came back, to ask for him and he would make sure we were taken care of. I’ll have to admit we felt very VIP. Overall 5 I have nothing to complain about and I was continuously surprised, that is a 5 star experience.

Just had a great dinner during the Thanksgiving weekend at this location! We had the best waiter who gave us excellent advice on our selections including the wine. Largest piece of sea bass I’ve seen in a restuarant and it was cooked perfectly(wife’s entrée) and my scallops were very good as well. We didn’t try the dessert but nothing here that disappointed us in the least, we highly recommend this location.

I’ll give it two stars because I’ll give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt since we were a bigger group and took up a huge table for only a couple of people getting entrees. That being said, the food was mediocre at best. The edamame came with this thai salt on it that was way too aggressive. This is edamame-just keep it simple and salted, no need to get crazy with it. I also ordered the«Short North Manhattan» that tasted watered down somehow. The sushi we got was good, but the fact that it would have been $ 15 normally per roll(we had the happy hour special) was insane. Lastly, the service was atrocious. When we got there we put in orders for appetizers and it took the waiter twenty minutes to come back and take drink orders. The restaurant was empty, so this should not have happened. At the end, when our waiter gave me my check, he forgot to account for the happy hour discount, even though I reminded him 3 times. He did fix it, but that still should not have happened.

I had the Pecan Crusted Grouper with the sweet potato & bacon hash, vanilla maple butter. This dish is amazing. I have also had the grouper pan seared with a Miso Vinaigrette and it was equally as delicious. This has quickly become my favorite seafood restaurant.

I didn’t even know this place was here. I thought it was still Sushi Rock. My friend Dani and I came in for dinner during Comfest weekend and had a crazy good dinner on the patio. Holy moly: this is not Sushi Rock. This is way nicer. They did an amazing renovation and there are a couple different vibes going on in this restaurant: classy and chill. Each section has different furnishings but it’s all kind of united by a common theme of relaxed luxury. If you walk straight past the main entrance there’s a stately dining room decked out with warm wood and bronze — kind of like The Guild House, except good. On the other side there’s a sparkly marble bar wrapping around to a raised lounge. We like people watching so we requested the patio, then ordered martinis and a starter at the bar while we waited for our table. I got the Ruby Red, a really nice refreshing grapefruit cocktail — the bartender pressed the grapefruit right in front of us to make it — and Dani sipped on a glass of Cava. We shared the Shanghai style calamari for an appetizer. It was crispy and delicious with some nice surprises tucked in like roasted peppers and peanuts. The patio is worth waiting for, especially on a heavy traffic weekend. High Street bustled with every sort of person in Columbus. Young professionals dressed up for Saturday night, suburban parents dragging their kids around, college bros talking louder than anyone else on their way over to Park Street. And, because of Comfest, hippies. Too many hippies. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. Food was brought out at a good pace and the table was cleared in a timely fashion. I agreed to the server’s suggestion and ordered the pecan-crusted grouper with sweet potato and bacon hash. Dani chose the southern fried half chicken. We kind of ate off each other’s plate; we really had too. Both dishes were absolutely scrumptious. The fried chicken comes with this spicy chorizo gravy that made my eyes roll back. We also split a couple sides: jalapeño mac and cheese(spicy and spectacular), and sauteed wild mushrooms. The mushrooms had a little too much olive oil. We told the server and after a few minutes she came back with a new one that was perfect. After the entrees we shared the warm butter cake, a thick, semi-molten vanilla sponge cake with vanilla ice cream and Italian cherry drizzle. I would literally go back to Black Point just to eat this cake, and I consider myself a helplessly snobbish dessert hound. Other than the tiny blemish with the mushrooms, I really cannot say anything bad about the food here. It is right up there with the highest quality stuff I’ve experienced in Columbus. I’m looking forward to going back soon. Huge improvement on sushi rock and great addition to the neighborhood. Bravo, Black Point!

Best steak in Columbus. Great bar area, great fish as well, lemon crusted sole is bomb. But the bone in ribeye is a must.

Alright… I went back today and I have to retract my previous review only because my experience was significantly different than my previous. Not sure if management changed or if they placed additional staff to help support the restaurant but my experience was nothing but exceptional. The service was on point and I had the filet mignon w/the butter truffle(yum! Highly recommend) — which was fantastic. My boyfriend also had the crown jewel, which I highly recommend. The crab claws are amazing for appetizer, wine list was good, overall a very differe experience from before. Five stars for this place and yes, I’d go back for some more! If you’ve gone to black point before as I did and had a less than sub par experience, I suggest you give it a try again!

This place is amazing! A truly superb date night choice — located at The Cap in the Short North. We ordered the bone-in ribeye & pecan-crusted grouper, both prepared to perfection and absolutely delish! Though the showstopper may have just been the chorizo/jalapeño mac&cheese; sides are served family style, so it makes it nice for sharing, we also got the caramelized brussels sprouts. As you might expect from a Hyde Park establishment service was impeccable, while the signature cocktails from the bar were excellent. I’ll def be back…

Excellent service. A really great date night spot. I made reservations and they asked if there was a special occasion and there actually was. When we arrived, at our table was a handwritten note congratulating my boyfriend on his new job. Such a great touch. Cocktails were great and not too expensive, either. I got the white cucumber– it was HUGE and refreshing. My boyfriend got a classic moscow mule and it was also pretty good. Just go ahead and get the taco appetizer. Pork belly and ahi tuna. You don’t have to pick favorite because you get both! We got the buckeye roll and the daily special. Both were monster sized and pretty good– not my favorite I’ve ever had but the quality was excellent and the fish(we got tuna and salmon) just melted in my mouth. And not crazy expensive– $ 12 to $ 15 for big, fancy, rolls. We’re saving the lobster tale roll for another time. Overall, the experience was excellent. It felt fancy and metropolitan and it wasn’t too crazy expensive either. The service was great, the food was delicious and the drinks were good.

We tried ordering an order as take out on a Friday and they told us they were too swamped. We tried again on Saturday and got the same answer. I asked when we would ever be able to and he said any other day. I responded by telling him that we were told the same thing the night before. ??? …It was very annoying. After that we decided we wouldn’t try to order there again because they are always too busy. A few minutes later a server named Rich called back and said he went back to the kitchen and asked the chef to place our order. I thought it was great customer service for him to go out of his way to accommodate for us. Great job Rich. Great guy. Also the food is great and the portions are a good size. Try the crab mashed potatoes :)

Great addition to Short North! Sometimes it gets old just going to the classics like Hyde Park for an upscale dining experience. This is a new twist! We’ve been twice since its opening — New Years Eve and on a random Tuesday night to celebrate a promo! This review will be a mix between the two. We can walk there because we live in the SN but they HAVE to do something about the valet. It starts to backup the entryway from 670 which sucks. Maybe when the parking lot behind the building is done it will be better. Upon entry the hostess stand is always staffed and friendly. We ended up buying $ 300 gift cards at Xmas time in order to get $ 60 back in post New Years Hype Park Restaurant Group cards — totally worth it! The gift cards work at Hyde Park, Black Point, and Eleven. They take reservations for the dining room but the lounge is first come, first serve. We’ve sat in both — if you want a quieter more chill vibe, go to the dining room. If you want a SoBe club feel, definitely do the lounge! We prefer the more upbeat experience. Wait staff has been nice both times but I wish there was two staff members per table like there is at Hyde Park though. We were left waiting/wanting for things often both times. They need help! The Cab Sauv that’s made for them is AMAZING. It has«Chandon» in the name. I want to buy gallons of it! The kale salad is OUTOFTHISWORLD! I want it all the time. It has this special fried cheese cube that melts in your mouth. It’s a large portion too! The trick with the seafood entrees is leave your«sauce» or «dressing» on the side. The fish is so perfect left alone & simply grilled that the sauces just ruin it. Luckily we always order on the side! I recommend the sea bass! The lobster potatoes are scrumptious :-) I wanted seconds! It’s heavy but yum! We also tried the pork chop and WOW the Jack Daniels raisin maple syrup on the side makes the dish. You just need a dab to complete this savory meal. I have a hard time finding sushi I like but BP delivers. Huge pieces with fresh ingredients! We asked to skip the spicy mayo and they catered our request. I love fresh in-house rolls! Overall really hope Black Point found a home in the SN! Can’t wait to try half price wine and sushi on Sundays this Spring!

Wonderful place to start a night out. The atmosphere is professional yet energetic, and the décor is beautiful. I’ve been here twice now and each experience was fantastic, the service was attentive, very knowledgeable and made great recommendations on our bottle of wine I had never tried before and on the entrees themselves. The dynamite roll lives up to its name, one of the tastiest rolls I’ve had in quite a while, we had the scallops and pork chop and both were very well prepared, delicious, but not too done up as to ruin the flavor. I know some people are hesitant about it because of a few bad experiences but it’s definitely a place you have to try for yourself, a little bit of something for everyone, a great vibe and a nice place to enjoy company, I definitely recommend this to anyone who is on the fence or just looking for a night out. P. s. Our servers names were Brandon and Doug each time and they were both fantastic! Just a little shout out.

The only reason I’m giving this restaurant 2 stars is for the food. If I was rating the food alone, it would be higher. But unfortunately, my restaurant experience was ruined by the wait staff. My friends and I came early for our Friday night reservation and spent an hour at the bar. Great atmosphere, great cocktails & great service. When seated at our table, we were left alone for an hour. No bread, drinks, etc. When our waiter finally came to our table, we joked«where have you been?» His answer: «I got the vibe you guys wanted to be left alone.» It was another hour before we got our food. Since our waiter, Jon, was no where to be found, we were being served bread & water from Miles, who was very attentive to our table whenever we asked him for something. When speaking to the manager & telling him our disappointment, we were given two free desserts. By this point, we had been at the restaurant over 3.5 hours and were just ready to go. I would have more appreciated them taking something off of the bill. We left and headed back to the valet stand to pick up our cars and learned there is a $ 6 charge for valet. No where was there a sign or any indication of this. I don’t mind paying for this service, but as someone who doesn’t carry cash, this should be told up front. Many of the other Short North restaurants offer this complimentary, and for what you are already spending here on your meal, I felt it was an overcharge. With many other new restaurants in town to try, this isn’t somewhere I will be coming again.

I had high hopes for this place opened by the Hyde Park restaurant group given the location’s not so great past tenants. Overall OK place but I’d only return for drinks, sushi, and dessert. The Good: –Our wait staff was attentive –Decent wine & sparkling selection –Sushi rolls are tasty(Kooma is still better) –Butter cake dessert was great –Entrée highlights were the fried chicken and scallops The Bad: –Filet mignon was overcooked/cut was just ok –Fish entrees didn’t blow anyone away The Ugly: –Beware of coat room valet. One of our possessions($ 300+) was returned soaking wet with coffee. A more customer service oriented restaurant would have discovered and taken care of this before initiating an awkward scene.

This place is in the old Sushi Rock building at Goodale and High; a building I’ve driven and walked(drunkenly stumbled?) by for years. It’s more upscale and expensive than I usually care to spend for a meal. The other night my best friend from college was in town, and we found out the hard way that Kooma was closed on Sunday’s, so we set off looking for another option. I had no idea that this place had opened up but we were immediately curious. We were seated immediately and our server let us know the Sunday specials, one of which was half off sushi. He didn’t specify though that this did not include the specialty rolls(more on that later). The sushi selection wasn’t huge, 8 or so regular rolls and 6 specialty rolls. Due to what we thought was half off pricing, we ordered four of the specialty rolls(Jalapeño, Surf & Turf, Dragon Roll, and I think the fourth was Philly). These were all absolutely delicious, no regrets at all. Some of the best sushi I’ve had. We also ordered some drinks along the way. Once the check came, we were surprised to see the price was far higher than we expected. Apparently the confusion over the half off pricing wasn’t the first time that it’s happened, because our server said he would talk to the manager and see what could be done. They apologized profusely and gave us the half off price after all. Overall, some of the best sushi I’ve had, great service and an upscale venue. Bonus points; check out the huge bronze fish tail wall statue/sculpture thing to the right of the entrance.
