Cabela’s

I ordered a backpack from their website. I had a trip plan for the following month. I was checking the shipping status of the item and it said my order was cancelled. When I called they said my order was cancelled because the item was out of stock. As I was on the phone with customer service I got back on the website and the item was still there and still in stock per the website but apparently they just left it there and confirmed it was out of stock and would not be restocked. THEY MADE NO ATTEMPT TO CONTACT ME TO TELL ME THEY CANCELLED MY ORDER and THEY STILL CHARGED MY CC. WTF! I have spent thousands of dollars at Cabelas over the past decade, they will never get another cent from me.

Planned on purchasing new gun from Field and Stream across the street, but guys were too busy talking to a friend and not doing their job, so after 45 minutes I headed to Cabela’s. I’m glad I did!
Bill at the gun counter approached within a minute asking if I needed help. Told him what I wanted, and within 5 minutes I was headed to check-​out. Awesome guy.
Check-​out went smooth with background check back in 5 minutes. Longest delay was serial number checks every step of the way, which I’m fine with.
There was no problem matching F&S advertised price, and getting an extra $ 20 off for opening a Cabela’s charge was fine with me, since I was going to pay with my debit card anyway.
I have no intentions of shopping any place else. Great job!

I like shopping at Cabela’s at Polaris. They do a good job at providing quality assistance in the store. They also will have great close-​out specials. I bought my fish finder at an extreme discount. Online they have really good resources for finding the right fishing equipment for the type of fishing that you want to do. I’m new to the fishing sport so this was a big help.

I’ve made the decision not to spend any money here unless I’m given a gift card. Even then I’d hate to do it. Cabela’s just doesn’t care about the customers. I went in there to buy a handgun they had advertised on their website. The only reason I was going to buy from Cabela’s is because I had received a $ 100 gift card for my birthday. So, headed over there. I get there and tell the guy behind the counter what I’m there to buy. He messes around looking through the display case and sees that they don’t have it. He looks in back and comes out to announce they’re out of stock. I explain that the website is advertising it and as big as this business is how could they be out? He’s like, well maybe next week we’ll get some… So then he starts pressuring me to buy another gun that’s similar. I’m not stupid and know that the gun he’s pushing on me would end up costing me $ 179 more than the gun I came in for. That’s a bit of a difference. So I say, are you going to give it to me for the same price or something? Why are you trying to upsell me? He’s like, oh uh well, yes, it’s a ‘little’ more. Right, upwards of 200 dollars.
I was quite annoyed, not to mention that this guy just seemed like a jerk anyway. It was the way he was treating me, like I had no clue about firearms. He had this way of talking down to me. Anyway, I did have my eye on another pistol I had been thinking about getting and asked to see if they had that one. They did and after playing around with it for 5 minutes or so I told him I wanted to buy it. He seemed excited that he was selling me a gun but that excitement from him quickly disappeared when I asked him about price matching with another store. He was like, well, yeah we do but, you’d need to have the actual sale flyer from that store here with you today to get a different price. I said, like this one, as I pulled the folded up flyer out of my coat pocket. Honestly, he seemed rather irritated by this. I was setting myself up to purchase a gun from them for $ 399 instead of the $ 479 they had it listed for. My goodness Cabela’s jacks up their prices! His whole demeanor seemed to change. It was like he was mad now that I was getting an $ 80 reduction from their inflated pricing.
I went and jumped through the hoops to get out the door with my new pistol. Only went there because I had $ 100 to spend there only. Would have much rather gone to my LGS and not have to deal with guys like this or the ‘price match’ game.
I’ve looked at their used guns and most are priced more than new ones at smaller stores. Makes absolutely no sense. Cabela’s preys on the idiots that don’t know pricing or those who don’t shop around. I know a fella that just blew $ 900 on a new S&W pistol at Cabela’s. He feels sick to his stomach that I pointed out that he could have saved $ 200 by buying it from this other store. He was like, OMG, from now on I’ll look there! Also, he had no idea that cabela’s would price match. Funny how a lot of folks aren’t aware of this. Kinda like cabela’s doesn’t want you to know.

Wild Game Lunch @ Cabella’s
There are so many great things here, but there is also a wonderful Deli & Grill.
It smells so good in here! I decided to go with the Smoked Bison Sandwich that included 1 side and a drink. I chose a side salad but you also have your choice of a bag of chips, potato salad or cole slaw.
I chose wheat bread but there is also white or rye. The meat looked like roast beef, but definitely had a nice taste to it. It was not very gamey, but that’s fine with me. The sandwich was very fresh and tasty. The sandwich was rather large and with my side I was full.
Don’t forget to get a FREE sample of fudge and just try to resist not buying some.
I would definitely come back as I would really like to try Whitey’s Chili and the other tasty sounding sandwiches.

I’ve grown beyond Cabelas. We have more options in Columbus now and it’s time we all move on. Field and Stream, Dicks and Outdoor Source are closer and have better stuff with a smart staff.
The selection is wide here but the staff is not very knowledgable about most things. The bargain cave is not much to talk about, cell phones do not work inside and much of the clothing is overpriced.
Folks at the credit card operation are very rude and not helpful. I cancelled my Visa and don’t really miss it.
My real problem is the cheap, knock off stuff of low quality. They don’t really seem to come up with any new, cool stuff on their own. Cabela’s has a model that copies from other more innovative companies (particularly in camping gear) and then makes their own version in China for about the same price with ¹⁄₃ of the quality, I deserve better and I’ve decided to stop shopping here.

Stopped here to just walk around.
Exterior: the exterior is beautiful to behold. The main entrance has a timbered appearance with large windows, which makes it appear as if it’s a large log cabin. The parking lot is sufficiently large, though it can be packed on the weekends. I recommend visiting during the week and on non-​holidays. I believe there is also parking on the north side for RVs and larger vehicles.
Interior: awesome! As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a huge fireplace with some comfortable chairs in front of it and a seated greeter at a podium. The store is divided into easy to recognize departments, so finding the items you seek are easy. You will find camping items, shoes/​boots, outdoor cooking, fishing, boating, clothes, archery, knives, guns, indoor items, a bargain cave, and a café. I’m sure I missed something because there’s so, so much! There’s even a hill with various stuffed animals, aquarium, and interactive learning devices for the children in all of us! The aisles are large and easy to maneuver no matter what section you happen to be in. NOTE: it is almost impossible to get cell service in this store (I have both Verizon and AT&T) so if you want to share anything with friends or family, you’ll have to wait until you get outside.
Staff: the associates have always been friendly and helpful. I usually know what I want when I go there so I don’t usually need assistance, but when I do they are great! I needed some arrows for my recurve bow, so they took the time to measure my draw, found the tips I needed, cut the arrows down and took care of the inserts. At the time I purchased them, they didn’t have anyone on staff that could put feathers on, but the associate said they would in the future.
Inventory: unbelievably wide range of items! Some items are far more expensive than at other places, but the quality has been outstanding and they’ve lasted longer than similar less expensive versions.
Rewards: make sure to sign up for their rewards program. For every purchase, a certain percentage is rewarded as a cash amount on your card. If you decide to use it, that amount is deducted from the total. With the amount of items we purchase from here, it is definitely worth it!
Overall, this is a great place to shop or just walk around. We find ourselves just stopping in when we want to walk off dinner and it’s very hard not to buy something when we go because we always find something we could use for our next camping trip.

I recently was given a compound bow as a Christmas gift that was purchased at Cabela’s. I don’t hunt and have never shot a bow before so I felt really out of my league when I walked into Cabela’s with the new gift still in the package. It was very crowded but it was the day after Christmas so my fault there. Besides the wait, I had a great experience! The staff was amazing they got my bow all set up and taught me how to use it. They were very patient and friendly and made me feel at home. (Thanks Brett) Selection is nothing without service and everyone in the store was more than helpful. Very exceptional. They had some great deals and online coupons for in store purchases that saved me some money too. Definately recommend this store for your hunting or in my case target shooting needs!

A neat store that is very devoted to the outdoors theme. The exterior has a wooden log look, while the inside offers a variety of animals (stuffed) to see and learn about via a touch screen, while a nice sized aquarium showcases live native fish. There is a café, and in the back, near the fish, is a pick-​up window, making it easy to get anything you order in online.
So what to buy? They offer a huge variety of supplies, clothing, shoes, and more for most of your outdoor needs — camping, fishing, hunting, etc. There is a «clearance cave» in the back for treasure hunting for good finds too.
Staff is friendly. The parking lot is large, which is good because this place always seems to be hopping when I go over there!

Cabela’s is often not the cheapest option, true. But I have to say, there is something to be said for their huge selection. If I needed it NOW, I know I can come here and find what I need. I wanted a specific model of boots, and they simply were not available anywhere else locally. Cabela’s had them, and the price was not outrageous.
How many other places can you go in Columbus that have tree stands for hunting, kayaks, a huge selection firearms, every conceivable type of outdoor footwear, camping gear, fun stuff for the kids to do… the answer is none. Cabela’s is not for the penny pincher, but the staff is well trained, and they have a giant selection of products that you can put your hands on in the store.

For the outdoor enthusiast this is the place to go. Clean, well organized and good selection. Seemed a bit short staffed on a busy Sunday though.
They have a café– didn’t eat there but the scent of cinnamon wafted through the air.

Good store but the fact there is no cell service inside makes for a bad shopping experience when you drop off your wife at Polaris Mall.
They should remedy this situation.

I’m an avid outdoorsman. I spend almost every weekend between March and October outside backpacking, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, hunting, playing… whatever. I absolutely love going to Cabelas… but I hardly ever buy anything here because most things seem to be terribly overpriced unless it is set by the manufacturer.
One of the few things I almost always get here are shoes… they have an amazing selection with one huge bonus. You can wear shoes up to 90 days and if they give you blisters, or any problems, they will take them back. Most other outdoor stores including my all time local favorite Outdoor Source, will not let you return shoes. So sorry, they and other businesses lose out to Cabelas for my shoe business. Nothing is worst than spending $ 120 on a new boot only to find it gives you bad blisters or the GoreTex leaks.
However, everything else in the store seems to be overpriced by 30%. I like to frequent their bargain cave where you can get things for 50−70% off that has nothing wrong with it. They had a $ 600 wood pellet smoker that was $ 600 for $ 250 in there. It looked like someone used it once for a holiday and then returned it.
You can get a folding chair at Walmart for $ 10. Same chair at Cabelas with their name on it…$ 20 – 29. Lodge Logic Cast Iron Grill…$ 60 on Amazon…$ 150 at Cabelas with in house branding. Even their shoes are like that. They have their own version of the Merrel Moab Ventilator Low Cut Boots which they sell for $ 80, their version, $ 120.
My kids love seeing all of the big fish in the fish tank and I love just walking around to get ideas occasionally buying something that’s not Cabela’s branded.

I could spend hours in Cabelas its just a fun store. I do however think it’s absolutely insane that they do not carry 22 long rifle ammunition.

Preface: I am not a hunter, camper, or fisherman.
I came in here with my outdoorsman father-​in-​law. He loved this place as he was thinking of buying a new rifle so he became educated in the different guns. I on the other hand came in here to just see the place. Expensive, the prices for clothes are ridiculous. I saw t-​shirts for $ 15, shoes under $ 100 are rare, and everything seemed just exorbitantly high. Maybe I am just too frugal for this place but I know that the last time I went shopping for hunting supplies (15 years ago), that the prices weren’t close to this. I used to work outside in the construction business and I always found quality shoes and boots for around $ 70. I couldn’t find anything here for under $ 100 even in the bargain cave. They have some cool coats that I think I could of used when I worked outside but they were at least $ 40. Everything here just seems high.
The place is cramped as the aisles have clearance racks in the middle which makes this place hard to walk around. I felt like I was always running into people. The store is not laid out very well. The bargain cave was an accident waiting to happen. A few people tried to take carts into this place which made it impossible to move. I was happy to get out of here. I will admit I felt out of place here as I am used to being around people of many cultures. I felt like this place was pretty mono cultural. The bathrooms were also pretty small and as busy as it was, uggh.
The good: They have a few live fish in their fish tank which is great for kids. They have numerous stuffed animals around the place which is cool to see. They have knowledgable staff as the guy helping my father-​in-​law with the guns was very good. I only understand half of what he said since it was gun talk. They have some pretty cool camping supplies with small model tents to help one make an informed decision.
I have been to the one in Wheeling and I enjoyed it there more than here. This building just seems too small and with it being new, that seems crazy.

I’ve been to other Cabela’s and this so watered down – especially if you’re a lady. It really seemed like there were more clothing options for toddlers and babies than us women! I was more than a little irked by this BUT then I discovered they’ve sort of separated women’s stuff… go check out the guys and you’ll find something right next to it. Which is strange because ages ago we just bought guys things anyway (they didn’t have many options). I just sort of wish it were in a centralized area. The staff is super knowledgeable. They aren’t little assholes chasing you, either. I’m a huge fan of realtree so to see that they didn’t get rid of that inventory for this location is a plus. They also didn’t have a wide selection of Justin’s boots.
The other side of this is typical. Can’t find it in stores? Order it online. I think the location makes sense. Right off 71. I just wish it were larger, like the other ones.

Ahhh, Cabela’s… kind of in a weird location, behind the mall. Yes, this place is pretty small. And expensive. Something you can find at Walmart, Dicks or Gander Mtn. for $ 20 is $ 35 at Cabela’s.
If you’re going here to buy a gun… Cabela’s SALE prices are what the normal price is at other places. The gun counter is also a zoo. They have a «take a number» thing, but they don’t actually use that system. You pretty much just have to stand behind people and wait for a sales person to walk by and holler at them to look at something.
Their knife counter was really disappointing. They didn’t have much of a selection, and what they did have, again, was over-​priced.
They did have what seemed to be a large clothing department. Most of it was Cabela’s brand from what I could tell. I don’t know how their sizing selection was, I didn’t browse the clothing, as I was not in the market to buy anything camo on this particular shopping adventure.
I was also kind of irritated with the fact that some of the staff in the camping section were just standing in the middle of the aisle talking as I was trying to find something and had to say «excuse me» three times in order to reach something behind them and then push my cart through.
It was a neat place to look around I guess. If you’re within a half hour drive time, come look around. Any further, and I’d stick to Gander Mtn, Walmart or Dick’s. I went in looking for a gun, a knife and a few simple camping supplies. I came out with a Mountain Dew and a pair of flip-​flops that squeak when you walk.

It’s much smaller than the Dundee, MI location that I’ve been visiting for years, and since they are virtually the same distance of travel I’ll continue to visit the MI location since I can also hit up the Bass Pro Shop and Jann’s Netcraft in Toledo, too.
As far as the overall experience — it is a massive outdoor sporting goods superstore. If you like to do things outdoors than this is the place for you.

This place is COOL!!! (hands down) Reminds me of Bass Pro Shop we had in Oklahoma City. I agree with Luke T.‘s comment «so gigantic!» It’s a bit overwhelming as you walk through the door.
Any type of outdoor sport or activity you’re interested in… you can find whatever for whatever at this place! From guns, kayaks, safes, fishing, rock climbing (shall I continue?)…you can find it here.
I went kind’ve late, just before closing time… so we had to peruse pretty quick. I did notice they also have a café there. Of course it was closed and I couldn’t see exactly what they had. I’ll find out next time I go.
A very cool place! Very new. Lots of dead animals hanging on the walls and mounted everywhere. LOL.
I’ll certainly be back… even if only to kill time.

So gigantic it’s hard to believe this is their first «scaled-​down» location. This store has, to my understanding, half the square footage of floor space of the typical Cabela’s. It is a pilot store, opened in Columbus because such a large percentage of Cabela’s online orders are shipped to this area. If this store is successful, they have plans to open similar-​sized stores in six or so of the other top online-​ordering locations.
The store was packed. People were lined up, wrapping through the aisles waiting in line to buy guns. Kinda scary. With the exception of the guns and overabundance of fishing poles, I didn’t really find anything here to be that much more special than stuff you could get at a Dicks or any other similar themed store. The kayaks were certainly of the same quality at a Dicks — i.e. not great.
There was an archery range on site. Don’t see that every day. I also touched a $ 13,000 rifle. The creek scene with all the stuffed and/​or fake animals was pretty bizarre and unnecessary. I tried to capture a picture of this bozo holding his newborn (literally looked like it popped out of the womb days earlier) up over his head beside this stuffed beaver so his equally unfit-​to-​parent wife could snap a photo, but couldn’t get my camera open in time. Sorry.
Two stars with a plus one for the sheer impressiveness of the gun library and the cinnamon baked nuts they were preparing on site. Oh, I also found the staff to be pleasant.
