I went to Eye on the Continent last year as this was pretty much the only optometrist I could go to under my insurance. My first impression was poor. Nobody greeted me or even acknowledged my presence for about 5 minutes(maybe longer). I was then just handed a clipboard and asked to fill out paperwork… no smile, no «how are ya?» no nothing. The exam was find and the doctor was polite, but I got concerned when he wanted to increase my contacts power and also said I shouldn’t need«cheater readers» because I tested well for reading up close. But I have needed cheaters(I’m cool with that) and my distance vision with my current contacts script was perfect in my opinion(note, I am mainly nearsighted, but at age 44 need some help reading up close). Of course, I am not a professional optometrist so I trusted his opinion. When I left the examining room the 2 staff ladies were eating fast food at the tables where you try on eye glasses and such. It was so gross and unprofessional. They ordered my stronger contacts(greasy fingers on my paperwork… classy!) and I vowed I would never return to this practice. My vision never seemed quite right with the new script, but they also seemed«ok» so didn’t really think much about it probably because I didn’t want to go back to that place. I also noticed that I needed to use my «cheater readers» more often but just chalked that up to getting older *sigh. Fast forward a year later… I am thankfully able to choose from more optometrists on my plan so I was able to get some personal referrals. New optometrist was professional, clean office, and he determined that my contact script was… wait for it… TOOSTRONG! He said getting me back to correct power will also make me not need my cheaters as much. He dropped my script down 3 powers(yes, THREE!) and I had no trouble adjusting, I see much better, and I hardly ever need my cheaters! So my original instincts were correct… Eye on the Continent mishandled my eye health. Do not recommend. If this is the only thing on your vision plan, you’re better off paying out of pocket and going with a good referral. There’s much better out there.
