This is the only Giant Eagle I’ve been to thus far. Based on just passing by the exteriors of other Giant Eagles, I’d say this one isn’t an accurate representation of what these stores are typically. The selection was very limited. The only thing that impressed me was their selection and prices of craft beer. I did find it odd, however, that the craft beer has its own, unrefrigerated section on the side of the store opposite the rest of the beer. The sushi looked fresh and yummy but I refrained from buying any because the packages seemed too large for just 2 people to eat. Most of the shelves were dusty, as were some of the products. I picked up a bag of panko only to have it send a handful of dustbunnies airborne. The staff here was exceptionally polite. It is for that reason that I may return in the future to give this store another chance.

Worst experience I have ever had in any grocery store, bar none. What is up with this place? On top of their incredibly crappy selection, especially of healthy/natural/gluten free foods, their service is unbelievably bad. I went to check out and I needed a courtesy card to do so; I asked for help and the guy told me someone else would come help me. No one did and he was still standing right there so I asked again for help. He just denied it, telling me I needed a Giant Eagle card. So the customer behind him decided she could solve the problem and told me I could use her card, and then he said she couldn’t because they weren’t her groceries. WHATINTHEHELL. I was so angry I left everything and just walked out, which meant I was without lunch that day, but it was worth it because I HATE this place now.

The only reason I come here is because it’s so darn convenient to where I presently live. In general, I find Giant Eagle to be on the expensive side of mainstream grocery stores in Columbus, and this one is also fairly limited in selection due to its size. There isn’t much emphasis on organic produce; general groceries are on the pricey side(butter, yogurt, canned veggies/beans). They do adhere to the Giant Eagle advertised sale flyers, so if there’s something that I do see in the online ad, I’ll make sure to get it($ 2.99 Reed sodas), but otherwise, I only come here when it’s a matter of convenience.

No Snowville Creamery milk? Wha? They do have Hartzler, well. SOMETIMES they do. It was all gone on a Sunday afternoon. I didn’t notice him until recently, but I do appreciate the security guard outside to keep the crazies at bay.

Not the best Giant Eagle. I will give them props for carrying Hartzler milk, but honestly it’s pretty small so their selection is pretty limited and I often can’t find what I want. The few times I’ve had to interact with staff have been a let down except for the very friendly and helpful police officer that stands up front and helps bag your groceries. If I’m close by I will stop, but usually I will go elsewhere.

This used to be The Place to get the best Fried Chicken in town, but since installing their new Hot Food Bar the chicken is a complete rip-off. A chicken breast that used to cost $ 1.99 now costs you between $ 3.29 to 3.79 when it is weighed as a Hot Food Bar item. I have called both the store and GE Customer Care and have received nothing but a brush-off about the issue. Does anyone think this pricing is reasonable for a single piece of chicken when GE regularly sells entire fried chickens for $ 4.99? Makes sense to me, but GE won’t listen and doesn’t seem to care. I’ll be shopping there a lot less and NEVER for fried chicken.

I’m pretty pleased with this Giant Eagle, all things considered. For one, it’s walking-distance from my house, so as long as I’m not hauling a massive load, I can just skip over and pick up whatever I need. The fact that the beer and wine selection is pretty big(in proportion to the overall size of the store), is fantastic for the occasional frolic to supply an impromptu patio party. And being caught in blizzards. So, with that said, there are trade-offs. If this GE were any larger, it either wouldn’t be close to my house(no way a bigger store could fit on that lot), or my charming neighborhood would have a GIANT Giant Eagle in the middle of it. So, the benefits of the smaller size also lead to some drawbacks. The selection, as you can imagine, is not as robust as other stores. However, I do think they do a good job of editing their stock wisely and offering a decent range of goods. The produce section is especially basic, I suppose. Even if can’t always find exactly what I need, and sometimes they run out of things… I’m okay with that in exchange for the small size and convenience. The floral area is teeny tiny, and beyond the registers. So, if you think you want flowers(and I always want flowers), try to remember to choose your bouquet before you pay. Maybe because the floral section is so small, everything always seems fresh and perky, and lasts forever when I get it home and in a vase. Additionally, I’ve never had to wait very long to check out, even though they rarely have more than two manned registers open. Maybe I just tend to go on off times. I prefer to go to the Bethel Road or Kenny Center Giant Eagles when time permits(both near my parents’ house) for the greater selection. But, as far as a local neighborhood grocery, I would cry a little if this GE ever left my hood.

I go to this Giant Eagle when I don’t feel like crossing High St. to go to Kroger. I find it very difficult to cross High St. at rush hour, so, I typically run to Giant Eagle if I need something for dinner. For a neighborhood grocery store it is fine. We are lucky we have 2 grocery stores in our hood!!! This GE has space limitations… remember it was a Big Bear for ever! They have made significant improvements in the six or seven years I have lived in GV, including adding a drive up pharmacy. The specialty food selection isn’t great and sometimes the meat department is limited… I have never been able to find ground sausage at this location. For the most part it is a-okay for basics… And they do what they can with the space and they have great deals! Weird story… I was picking up a bottle of wine the other night… standing in the self check out line, walked up to the cashier stand b/c I knew they have to check I.D. and as the cashier was approaching… she said, «Chelsea, don’t you know how to self check-out»? I said, did you just call me by my first name? She said, «would you prefer I call you by your last name?» Really wasn’t expecting that… kinda creepy. This says to me that I spend way to much time at this GE or grocery stores in general.

I love my little neighborhood GE i buy everything here from light bulbs to bananas I even scored season 9 of the simpsons for 9.99. I love it. Although the store seems small they have it all. The produce selection is of decent size and quality. The bakery is hit or miss but the deli is awesome cheese of every shape, size, and style and good salads. They also carry seasonal beer and some rarities like flying dog. I know every cashier by name and the pharmacy is very cooperative and good at communicating with your doctor if you need it. They lose a star for being to good at cramming it all in a small space when it comes to the lobster tank in the seafood aisle. They are all over each other. Free Willy!

One of the smaller Giant Eagles I’ve ever been in(and I grew up in Pittsburgh, the land of Giant Eagles), but they make good use of the space and have a nice layout. Big produce section, and considering the size of the store, they have a decently large ethnic & organic section. They tend to have a limited selection of frozen stuff and don’t carry products that I grew to love at other stores, and their sushi counter isn’t as nice as others. They also close early and often aren’t open at all on holidays. But it’s close to my house and is probably the best option in German Village.
