Mediocre fast food. Lamb dishes over priced. Limited drink selections. Heating surfaces could be cleaner.

Service is worse than pathetic. I stopped by since I was in the neighborhood and enjoy middle eastern food. There was one person at the counter already, ordering something, I got a sideways look from both the customer and the counter person, then they went back to discussing whatever it was, in a lower voice. I waited. The customer finished paying, went back to yakking. I waited for another few minutes, still yakking away, finally I left. Not even a hello, sorry, will be with you in a minute. Nothing. For all I care, they can take their business back to wherever they came from. They should hang a sign saying«No service unless you are my pal». I notice another review saying the owner is the same as Café Kabul, I find it hard to believe. I have eaten there while it was still Café Kabul, the owner was very nice to work with. This was nothing like that.

Nice place for lunch, and I liked it enough to return for takeout at dinner. Tasty and I felt I got a good value, especially on the two-gyro special. Squeaky clean place, sunny and bright with big windows. The real silverware and dishware is a nice touch if you’re eating in: something about substantial dishware makes a meal feel more luxurious, even if it’s a fast-casual atmosphere. I liked my Gryo Plate with Rice, but there was a whole lot of sauce and lots of Italian dressing on the salad. Next time I’ll order the sauce on the side, which is how its pictured on the menu. Not sure why this place doesn’t get more love here on Unilocal, but there may be three limiting factors: 1. it’s in a shopping center with lots of lunch choices(Mexican, Chinese, an Applebee’s, Raisin’ Cane’s, deli selections from Kroger, etc.) 2. Because of all those restaurant options, the parking lot gets very crowded at lunch time, and 3. ‘Muricans not being very conversant with Afghan food. It’s basically like if Mediterranean and Indian food had a glorious love child. Tandoori chicken and kebabs in the same restaurant, with pita and rice on the side? Yes please.

The same folks as Café Kabul, but rebranded, with plans to open the drive thru. Now open Sundays. Same friendly service, and more importantly, same good food. Although I will miss the chaplee kabab, which is no longer on the menu. Mention it the next time you’re there, and maybe they’ll bring it back. Because it’s the same owners, and largely the same menu, and ‘cuz I’m lazy, my original review is here:

Gyro & Kabob House is run by the same folks as Café Kabul, just rebranded, presumably to attract a broader audience. No confusion about what kind of food you’ll get there, I suppose — it’s right there in the name. If you don’t know what a gyro or kabob is, that’s what Google’s for. Now open Sundays. Same friendly service, and more importantly, same good food. I was sorry to see some of my favorites disappear from the menu, particularly the sublimely delicious chaplee kabab. Fortunately, the Kabuli pallow is still served, a luscious hunk of bone-in lamb stewed with shredded carrots and raisins, served on a bed of rice. While possibly displaced as my all-time favorite carnivore’s dish by Hoyo’s stewed goat, it’s still a tasty meal. They also make a pretty solid falafel — a generous serving of falafel served in pita, with hummus, lettuce, and tomato — so if you’re not in the mood for meat, the vegetarian option isn’t bad either. Afghan restaurants aren’t easy to come by — the last one I found(outside of Columbus) was in Paris — so go give these guys(and more importantly, their food) some love.
