Strip mall sushi. Somehow, in the culinary universe, it ranks among the best. I’ve been to a few in many places and they usually fail to disappoint! The restaurant offers a wide variety of specialty rolls with varying ingredients, flavors, and textures. All contain fresh fish and fresh ingredients. Prices are a little steep compared to some competitors and quality pales slightly compared to Akai Hana(which is also more expensive) You could do a lot worse, however. The staff and owners are incredibly friendly. Have been visiting the restaurant for a few years with and without a friend at times and we no longer even need to see a menu – they know our orders! That said, they occasionally fall into a weird lack of service when they get«busy» and have a wait list with open tables(a pet peeve, especially in such a small space). Haven’t tried anything outside of sushi and can’t comment on quality/taste. The sushi is fantastic, however!

How have I never written a review for Sushi Ting??? Ever since I first stumbled upon this place 6 years ago back in my Nyoh’s bar days(which is located directly next door to Sushi Ting), Sushi Ting has been my go-to place for sushi in Columbus. I’m pretty consistent, so a trip to Sushi Ting always involves the spicy miso soup and edamame to start. The spicy miso soup is always so warm and nourishing with just the right amount of spiciness. The edamame sometimes is not salty enough for me, but more often than not, it is salty soy perfection. As for rolls, if it’s dinner time, I always get the Ting Scallop Roll. It’s loaded with baked scallops and just so darn good! Sushi Ting also has an amazing lunch special. $ 9.95 gets you a soup or salad and 4 sushi rolls of your choice(from a provided list for you to choose from). There are also $ 10.95 lunch box specials for items like shrimp tempura and tonkatsu.

I’ve been a fan of Sushi Ting for about five years now. I’ve tried basically every other sushi place in Columbus and I always end up back at Sushi Ting, even though it’s way out of the way for me now. The service has never been less than excellent, although sometimes it gets a little busy around peak dinner hours. The sushi, though, is obviously the star of this show. I’ve never gotten any of the entrees because the sushi is seriously divine. Don’t let the strip mall exterior fool you– this place is top notch. Also do yourself a favor and try the spicy miso soup!

Pretty much the best sushi I’ve ever eaten, and that includes sushi from New York, Miami, Boston, San Francisco, and Philly. Their lunch box specials are terrific, satisfying, and only around $ 10 for an entire meal with lots of great bento-like variety. Service is extremely quick and friendly. Yes, it’s in a strip mall, a couple doors down from a Big Lots. All I have to say is: never judge a book by its location!

Eh. There are way better and even cheaper options in Columbus. As an appetizer I started with vegetable tempura. You can’t go wrong with that. Delicious, came out piping hot. There’s a very large sushi selection, and by that I mean strange American concoctions with weird stuff in it. Very creative, but the price of these rolls is ridiculous. Between $ 10 – 16 for one of their specialty rolls. Instead I chose from the selection lower on another page. I stuck with the Alaskan roll(just salmon and avocado) and my date had a California roll. These rolls were only $ 5 each which is a decent price and they were very good. My date ordered teriyaki salmon, and the plate just looked … sad. The salmon was either a very thin cut or it had been pressed or something. But they were just the tiniest little fillets ever. The dish arrived with a smattering of vegetables and what I think was a potato croquette(which was very good). It came out with a half-full, tiniest, most pathetic little bowl of rice I have ever been served in any Chinese, Korean, or Japanese restaurant ever. This was a $ 12 dish. I ordered katsudon. The pork was pretty good, but again thin. The egg on it was undercooked — the white was still clear. And then again the amount of rice served underneath the pork was minimal, and came with about six slivers of onion. This was a $ 10 dish. The rice was also regular rice. It wasn’t the sticky fluffy rice you would normally expect. It was like something I’d make at home. Another reviewer mentioned this so it doesn’t seem to be just a problem with my experience. I would only return here for the cheap sushi rolls(not the expensive rolls though!), if I were in the area already. But Japanese Oriental on High St has cheaper sushi — though their dinner menu portions are larger, they’re more expensive as well. I actually prefer Diaspora over both of these places which is only a little more expensive but very generous portions. There’s also a sign on the wall stating a minimum purchase of $ 10 for lunch and $ 15 for dinner for card payments. It’s only legal to require a maximum $ 10 purchase, for credit only, not for debit. I didn’t feel like testing this at the time because we were spending quite a lot, on a debit card, and I didn’t want to be a jerk. But at the very least that $ 15 minimum sign is still illegal.

Have been wanting to go here for many years but it’s on the opposite side of town. We finally made it and we were very impressed. Stopped in shortly after they opened on Wednesday at 5:30, it seemed a little small and not to fancy from the outside but once you open the door what a world of difference. We had the place all to ourselves, it was very clean and quiet. We ordered 4 rolls and ended up eating 3 as it was so much food. Tings California Roll Ket west Crunchy roll Deluxe California roll They put all 4 rolls on a very large plate and it all looked super fancy. The rice was super fresh and all the ingredients were delicious.

I’m in here so often the staff knows me. I’m a creature of habit and always go for the spider and dynamite rolls, which strike a nice balance between being filling and not leaving me uncomfortably full. The dynamite isn’t too spicy, and while I normally prefer hotter food, something about it is nice when I need a little bit of comfort food. I’d like to start branching out into their boxed lunches, but for now, my usual rolls do it for me.

Well I would have loved to give one on the food but never received a waiter after sitting there 10 min. or so. They never even noticed us!

I spend much of my weekdays at an office nearby so when the packed lunch doesn’t cut it and the food trucks are disappointing, Sushi Ting works great in a pinch. This place knows their target audience, supplying a wide ranging lunch menu to sample their many rolls. Personally I always go with one of the lunch boxes(e.g. shrimp tempura) which gives you a little more value for your money. The lunch box makes you full — and makes for a difficult afternoon trying to stay awake. Otherwise it is four different rolls(I believe 4 pieces each) for close to $ 10. The rolls are always expertly done, but I never feel full after their lunch rolls special(probably a good thing, actually). Both the bento box or rolls includes a choice between miso soup(yes!) or ginger salad(meh). Service is always brisk, as they know their lunch customers can’t wait around all day. It has been the same waiters since I’ve been coming here in June, so we know the quality going in. The outside doesn’t look like much and you wouldn’t expect to have good sushi in this plaza. I encourage you to check this place out. I will say I haven’t tried dinner here and can’t attest to their non-lunch menu items. I am not sure if this would be THE place to go for upscale sushi. I also wavered deciding if this was a three or four star experience, as their lunch menu has gone up over a dollar in price in the past couple of months. Ultimately I decided that good sushi should cost good money and $ 10 is still pretty reasonable for what you get(not including tip).

This place is great. It’s in a strip mall, which is weird, but the atmosphere is pretty decent. I usually get takeout. Great – Yum Yum, Shrimp Tempura. Good – Dragon, Spicy Tuna.

Finally got here. It’s out of my way, and usually closed when I’m nearby. Yesterday things worked out. It’s a nice little place, nothing fancy, but bright and open. Service was excellent, start to finish. The hostess, waiter, and I think manager checked on me. Not overbearing, just super helpful and friendly. The lunch special is great: 4 rolls(from a list) for $ 10. I got the crunchy California, tempura asparagus, Philly, and another one I can’t remember. All were good. Yes, the rice might be the«wrong» type, but it worked. Everything was fresh, attractive, and well-assembled(none fell apart.) They came with soup or salad; I chose the salad, simple fresh greens with a typical ginger dressing. I also got a piece of unagi; it was pretty good. Pop is in cans. It’s not a gourmet sushi place, or super fancy, but it is very good sushi at reasonable prices. Wish it were a bit more handy for me…

First the good: Service was good. Now the bad: Everything else. A place called Sushi Ting should sell sushi, but Sushi Ting has no sushi. Instead they have rolls with regular rice and not sushi rice. It is not of the correct flavor or consistency. It resembles sushi but the rice is just the normal rice that goes into your normal Chinese dishes. I am really surprised to see this place rated 4+ stars, and #2 in the sushi bar rankings for Columbus. This tells me that quality sushi is not available here in the midwest. The price is also bad for such horrible faux sushi. The Korean owned sushi places in los angeles are much better and cheaper than this place. We have had good sushi at Tensuke Market, but have not tried Akai Hana yet. There is a big difference between the sushi at the Market and the sushi here. There is real sushi rice and good-tasting and good portions of fish at the market. Go there and not here.

You wouldn’t expect it from the outside façade, but inside it is nicely decorated. I got a to-go order as I was staying at a nearby hotel. The rolls were pretty pricey and I didn’t think there was a lot of value there, unfortunately. The dinner box had a lot of food which was good, but there wasn’t much chicken teriyaki and the tempura batter was very heavy. It all made for a filling meal, though. Overall, I picked this for convenience to my location, but I bet there are better sushi spots around town.

Stopped here on my way to my hotel and decided sushi would be better than the Applebee’s located in the same plaza. Good call on my part. Great $ 10 sushi lunch special. You choose four different rolls for $ 9.95 and get three pieces of each choice. It also comes with soup or salad. You can sit at a table or at the sushi bar. They even have a flat screen tv on the wall. Fairly casual and well-prepared sushi for an affordable price.

The sushi here is pretty good. I had the monthly special that had salmon in the middle I believe and tuna on top with jalapeño and tempura batter. It was covered in spicy mayo and eel sauce, and I really enjoyed it. I also did a traditional spicy tuna, which was good, but not very large. I decided to get a side salad, since I needed to meet the $ 15 min on credit cards(not a fan of that), and I was really surprised at how awesome the dressing was. I wish I knew what it was, because it was incredible. Overall, the place was tasty, but the prices were a bit steep. My meal came in around $ 22 after the 15% discount(Oh yeah, you get that discount if you come in between 5 – 7 pm).

Tried sushi ting for lunch in an effort to break away from our normal sushi places. Worth a visit, but we probably won’t be regulars. We walked in and it took the guy a couple of minutes to seat us. It was a little too long to wait to be seated in a relatively empty restaurant. We look at the famed lunch specials and decided upon the 4 rolls(3 pieces each; seems like less than other reviewers have previously stated) for $ 6.99. We also ordered miso soup which appeared to be complimentary, or the waitress didn’t charge us. I went with the crunchy california, kani, shrimp tempura, and philadelphia. That’s not what I got, though; 3 of my rolls had cream cheese, one was completely fried. I couldn’t tell which was which, at all, but I’m pretty sure the order wasn’t right; I think 2 of mine were the same. My boyfriend’s order wasn’t right either; 2 of his were the same, and he got a white tuna which he didn’t order. They even give you expo markers to mark what you want on the menu, so I’m really not sure what the confusion was here. The sushi was decent, but not great and it would have been nice to get our order right. Our waitress was fine, but a little awkward. The best way to describe it would be that she was attentive, but not really. She seemed pretty apathetic about being there and kept laughing halfheartedly after saying anything. It was $ 15 for lunch so not too expensive for sushi, but we prefer some other places in the area.

Saucy Sauce Sauce Sauce … this is where you lost me :( I came in here on a Wednesday night after checking into my hotel across the street. I had already bookmarked the place, due to its high ratings, to try out one night. I was hoping it would take my taste buds to heaven so I could mark Ohio down as a sushi stopping point. The place was small, but well planned out. They actually had some partitions up between the tables to keep them sort of private which I thought was a nice touch. I was seated at the sushi bar, which as a single I come to expect. The waitress was very conscientious and pleasant. I ordered Sake, but wasn’t sure about the small or bottle. A bottle for me usually isn’t a problem, but she assured me I could take it with me if I didn’t finish it. Sold! I reviewed the menu and went with a seaweed salad, tuna lover roll, spicy scallop roll, and the ‘dreamy goat’ off the special roll menu. The seaweed salad was very fresh, not too oily and pleasing. When my sushi arrived it was very well presented and the waitress did an excellent job of going over which was which, since it was arranged in a triangle with rolls spilt up. I was so very eager to try each one! I will say the fish and scallops were very fresh. The one thing that ruined it for me was the sauce. The spicy scallop sauce had sweetness to it and I did not find it spicy at all. More of slightly spicy/sweet orange goo than any spicy sauce I had ever tasted before. I went on to try the tuna lover, which is also supposed to have spicy tuna. Again, no spice and a sweet white sauce this time. What’s going on here? Where’s my spice and you’re ruining that awesome fish. I moved onto the dreamy goat. I was expecting some sweetness here with the mango. It was actually my favorite of the three, but I still was thrown off by the sauce. The other big disappointment for me was the extremely watered down soy sauce they had. It was lighter than Texas iced tea… what a shame. I almost asked them for the ‘low sodium’ version, but once I poured some out — no need! I’m not sure what Ohio considers good sushi … and granted the fish alone was fresh & good, but dang man … get some new sauce!

I’ve never tried their lunch specials, but I’ve heard it’s really good. I just never had the time to go during the week. They also have a deal when it gets late at night for cash only though for sushi buy 1 roll get 1 free/half off? Maybe after 10pm? The rest of the kitchen is closed, but sushi is available. Always consistent sushi! With so many sushi places in Columbus, and many of them not being Japanese owned, including this one(Chinese/Taiwanese owned I believe), I always crave their sushi and end up coming back despite trying other places in the Columbus area. I’ve been coming here for over 6 years on and off now. My favorites are the spicy crab salad(appetizer) and dynamite roll. The spicy crab salad has imitation crab over a salad with dressing as well as pieces of fried salmon/cream cheese sushi. I normally don’t like cream cheese in my sushi, but this all works amazingly well together! They have a lot of options so there is something for everyone :) I enjoy mostly cooked rolls, and all that I’ve tried are good.

Sushi Ting is one of my favorite restaurants in Columbus and I’m so bummed it took me so long to discover it! The location seems strange but once you’re inside you’d never know that it’s in a strip mall. I always see the same waitresses working and they’re always so friendly! This trip I ordered four rolls because my eyes are obviously much bigger than my stomach. I ordered the Sunny California, the Sweet Potato Dynamite, the Hawaiian, and the Sunny Ebi. They were all so so good but then again I’ve never had a bad roll here. My favorite was the Sunny Ebi, I loved the tempura shrimp with the sweet mango. It was also the first roll I’ve had wrapped in soy paper, and it was so fun because it made the roll PINK! :) I’ve also had a selection of their other Japanese food here, and I really love the salmon hibachi and their tempura veggies. So yum. Also, the hot tea is fantastic and they always keep your cup topped off. Apparently they’ve got an awesome lunch special, though I’ve never been here for lunch, and they do great takeout. Sushi Ting is definitely one of Columbus’ hidden gems!
