The Barn at Rocky Fork Creek, a Cameron Mitchell restaurant, has opened up in its place. I’d be happy to go back and try the new concept provided that they didn’t retain the rude, ornery bartender and the cliquish regulars that gawked at you went somewhere else.

The only thing worse than their food was the management team. This place deserved to fail. Good riddance.

I’ve moved my review from Sawmill to here since I have to drive to Gahanna now for good BBQ… Hoggy’s still has the best wings in town. Mmmmm, maybe we’ll go tonight. I’ve been a fan of Hoggy’s for ten years. In college we used to go to the original one on Linworth and 161 for $ 0.10 wing night, now I frequent this one as it’s closest to home. I still stop in every now and then for lunch at the other locations and have the wings, although they are up to around $ 0.45ea now and recently they have started charging extra for celery and blue cheese/ranch. Back in the good ol days they even gave away complimentary pieces of cornbread. One of the main reasons I love the wings here is what you get for what you pay. Compare a Hoggy’s wings to one from BW3’s and you’ll find that the Hoggy’s wings and drumsticks are twice to three times the size of the BW’s wings for the same price, and they taste better. I’ve had some big wings here, drumsticks the size of KFC chicken legs and I’m not kidding. The must try list: Wings with Jamaican and Hoggy Garlic(formerly Honey Garlic) sauces, the onion rings, and the cornbread. If you’re a ribs fan the ribs are great. If you get the loaded baked potato as a side… be warned, it is the biggest and best baked potato you will ever eat. My other favorite is the smashed sweet potatoes… it’s almost like eating dessert. I also like the carolina pulled pork sandwich if I’m not in the mood for wings. The desserts are to die for… be warned, they can feed a family of 4. I remember having a birthday party at the Linworth store before it closed and having a slice of the chocolate cake… it fed myself as well as several of my friends. All of the desserts are like this and they are outstanding. I find most items on the menu to be good and tasty. They recently started serving steak, ribeye, it tasted like it was charcoal grilled. Not bad. One of the things I am disappointed with is the tea and the lemonade. The tea is no longer brewed. It’s great that they serve sweet tea in true souther bbq fashion… but it’s terrible stuff that comes from a pop machine. I’m not sure how they are making their lemonade but it must be with a syrup. I remember that it used to be prepared fresh by the chef, then they went to having your server hand make your glass, now it’s back to something bad. Rest assured though, you can get a soft drink instead. The other disappointment with this store is the service and the atmosphere. The service here is hit or miss. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad and I don’t even want to leave 10% as a tip, but I do since I eat here often. My wife and I even considered having our wedding rehearsal dinner here but decided not to due to some of our family who would find the place a little low class. At the original Linworth restaurant it was a tight fit, small space, great atmosphere. All that’s left of that store(due to whatever problem the owners couldn’t workout with the building lease holders) is the original sign which is displayed in the bar. I find it sad that this Hoggy’s is wide and open and well lit. Your server can slip away into the back for long periods of time… at the Linworth store you could always see your server, they had nowhere to go. I think this has a lot to do with the service at this store. Regardless of the service or the new location, I am a fan of Hoggy’s and always will be. At one point in my life I could eat 20 of their wings… now I can only handle about 5 with a side and that’s dinner for me, followed up with a piece of cornbread for $.40, the perfect dinner. Kids eat free on Wednesday with the purchase of an adult meal so we go there on Wednesday’s a lot. Next time you are craving wings, skip the disappointment of BWs, the high cost of Quaker Stake, and head over to Hoggy’s and be wowed.

Ok buffet. Needs more meat. Could have been a bit better if the buffet was constantly fed.

Now a chain, this is the original central Ohio resturant. This old barn, decorated perfectly(theres even a real tractor hanging from the ceiling) has the perfect ambience. The staff is friendly, and the food is excellent. Everything is great on the menu… I recommend the pulled pork or brisket… both are slow smoked to perfection. Their Mac-N Cheeses has its own reputation, as do their smoked chicken wings. A true BBQ joint, and one of the best at that.

What a joke this place is nasty food where in the hell did these hillbillies learn how to cook BBQ. The meat was greasy, Ribs were dry and tasteless, the sides tasted like it came from a box. The Triple Layer Double Chocolate Cake eww dry and nasty you could taste the sugar crystals i sent the cake back and they put it in the microwave now it really hot and nasty. Red Velvet Dream tasted like fels naptha soap.

We were so excited to eat here since we love BBQ and had heard good things. What a let down! Outside it looks cool with the huge barn, inside also great décor, but the food sucked! My husband had the Hoggy Challenge and even though he did not like the food at all he wanted to win(the $ 10 gift card) and managed to do so in under the required 45 minutes! The meat was fatty, the sides greasy which can be ok for BBQ but not in this case! I had the 3 little piga to also get a taste of the different meats they had to offer. None was good, they have a huge selection of sauces which I did enjoy but none were really on point. The buns were mushy, the meat very fatty and the mac n cheese as well as the other sides straight out of a box. If you want good BBQ, City BBQ is way better or try my favorite Ray Rays!

Hm. I’m conflicted. The food: 2 stars. The service: 3 or 4… eventually. I was greeted and seated by a very pleasant hostess. I sat for a few minutes waiting for service. Okay, no big deal, I“m getting the buffet so I’ll just go up. Got one plate, finished it. Getting parched. Got another plate, almost finished it. Meanwhile, servers are walking by, I start with trying to make eye contact, move to waving. Nada. It has now been 15 minutes. Consider leaving. Finally flag down the hostess, who is surprised that I haven’t been helped. Swiftly, a waitress comes by, apologizes, and offers me a free meal. I decline, but she insists, and explains that they’ve had an issue with another table. From then on, the service was very good. They practically beg me to come back another time, and I probably will, since it seems like this was an aberration. Can’t complain about free food, right? Except, well, I will. True, I ate a couple plates full, so it isn’t awful. But it was not very good. The brisket and pulled pork were drowned in sauce– good meat does not need any, and if I want some, I’ll put it on myself, thanks. The texture was okay, but beyond that I can’t make a report– all I tasted was sauce, and I’m not a fan of theirs anyway. There was also a tray of sausage and peppers– very bland. Baked mixed beans– pretty good. Roast potatoes– fair. Mac and cheese– urg. Rolls– hard. Mashed potatoes– pretty good. Mixed salad greens– very fresh and good, but not much to put on them. Overall, a small buffet, with mediocre dishes. Some decent chocolate cake. Watery sweet tea. Good for a big family with un-picky kids, but not very useful otherwise. I so miss Smackies’ buffet. At least he’s still around as Ray Ray’s. The décor apparently takes more of the budget than the food– it’s very cutesy«country barbecue.» For the price($ 9 buffet, which is cheap even when it’s not free) it was okay. I will try to go back, at least to try their recently-revamped menu.

Either Hoggy’s in general has gone down hill, or this particular Hoggy’s is worse than the others. We used to live closer to the one in Grandview and I have nothing but fond memories of that food, but the food at the Hoggy’s in Gahanna is meh as often as it is good. Sometimes the mashed potatoes and gravy will taste fantastic and sometimes it will taste like superglue and sour. Sometimes the ribs are done just right and sometimes they’ll be so gristly I won’t want to eat more than one. Even the chicken strips fall prey to this bait and switch, so on any given trip it could be a four star place or a one star place. We only ever go back when we remember how good it used to be. That said, when it’s done right a half rack of ribs with sides of mashed potatoes and onion rings with their special dipping sauce and a square of cornbread is southern comfort on a plate.

I used to really like this place. Recently we went again because we hadn’t been for a long time… then we remembered just WHY we hadn’t been in a long time. The service was poor — our server didn’t even smile once, and seemed annoyed by our request to refill our water — and the adult serving sizes were incredibly small. I’m not kidding or exaggering when I say our daugther’s kids’ meal pulled pork sandwich was almost twice as big as my «adult» meal. And of course mine was twice the cost. I finished all my food and ate her leftovers. And the bill was outrageous. $ 50 for two adult meals, two kids meals, and water all around? Really??? We won’t be going back.
