I came out of church this morning and I was starving. So I headed down here because it was close. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with an extra egg and it hit the spot. They do a fair amount of business but the food is nothing to brag about.

Family Owned and Operated. That used to mean that a family went to a bank or other type of lender, and invested their time and talent to develop a business. To be a family business means to be a part of a local community, get to know their customers, and be accountable face-to-face each day for what they do. Some of these families have put their entire life savings, even the mortgage on the house to make the business work. Today that phrase is used by very large companies who are run or have at their Chairman of the Board position a member of the original family who started the company, maybe. I say if there are multiple locations in multiple cities you can’t call that a family owned business that is a company, a corporation, an entity outside what I am trying to distinguish. Those large companies can rely on profits from other locations to help their struggling ones, and if they have to close one of their locations, they have plenty others to continue the profits. Not so for a true family business, invested in one location and doing what they can day in and day out! Family businesses are what made this country, you can believe it was factories, industry, and all the fat cats of the Industrial Revolution if you want to, but most of those men came from the kinds of families I am describing, and many of the family businesses in this country was simply acres of land tended themselves and the harvest sold at market. I said all that to say this… a true family business has certain qualities that are unmistakable. Family businesses have service where people take the time to know your name, show you respect, produce a superb product every time, and deliver an experience unmatched by any company anywhere. Howdy’s Deli is a true and phenomenal family business. My Grandfather and his meager 6th grade education started a heating and air conditioning business many years ago and I can to this day go back to my hometown and hear stories from people who still have the original furnace or air conditioner he put it, and their pride of how well it runs. If you could say that about a meal, then you can rest assured that you will find that kind of experience at Howdy’s. If I go to a chain restaurant, or some huge fancy franchise, my food is either scalding hot because the plate has sat under a heat lamp forever, or the food is cold because it sat in the window for too long. Today at Howdy’s, I got just right pancakes that had the steam coming off them and I was able to dig right in without worry for my tongue or the roof of my mouth. Scrambled eggs that were flaky, light, and delicious, and sausage and bacon that was crisp, hearty, and succulent to the taste. You will need your in-vehicle navigation to find the place if you are unfamiliar, yes. But it is the best treasure hunt you will ever take. Breakfast was divine, and I spent way less than I should have for the quality and quantity of food I ordered. The prices are amazing, the food is delicious, and I challenge you to find any chain or franchise that will deliver an equal experience for breakfast or lunch than what I had today at Howdy’s. I have always said that the only company I have ever seen able to deliver time and time again on quality product and excellent experience is Chick-Fil-A, to me they are the Gold standard. Howdy’s Deli understands the Chick-Fil-A mentality, and stands shoulder to shoulder, and delivers. I noticed on the window as i entered the words«No Respect, No Service.» Some would take that as a negative. I take it as a fantastic testament to what is in store for you if you visit this wonderful family eatery. You expect the best, to be treated well, have a delicious meal, and still keep money in your pocket. Howdy’s Deli will exceed that easily! Anything less than 5 stars is a crime! Thanks Howdy’s for an amazing breakfast. I am off to take a nap!

Howdy’s is a neighborhood secret guarded by those who live on the other side of Hudson. At the very end of a wanna be strip mall you will never notice this place on your own. Until now… So my favorite meal is brunch and I am easily bored. Howdy’s is the lone exception and I keep on coming back. Maybe its the fact that Tom the owner lets me make my own orders. Maybe its the breakfast and lunch served all day factor. Maybe there is something more than sugar heaped high on the french toast. Whatever it is, it works. Howdy’s could be considered a greasy spoon, but its clean. Eat off the floors, blinding glare clean. The service is fast and not fussy. Place your order, eat it shortly there after. The menu has lots of sandwiches along with traditional breakfast items and features weekly specials. Wednesday is «Big Ass Cheeseburger» day. And yes, that is what it is really called. The Big Ass Cheeseburger is exactly what it sounds like and a real deal in these troubled economic times. You will like it, so I will let you know it can be ordered throughout the week if you happen there on a weekend. A small local place, mornings at Howdy’s can be hectic. But pull up a stool if you have to wait and order at the bar. You will be impressed with how down to earth the staff is and how willing they are to please picky eaters. Howdy’s closes at three so get there early. The secret is out!
