This cartoon studio was unknown to us before we passed it during our visit to the Short North neighborhood. As we walked by, the art caught our eye and we walked in. We had the chance to have quite a long and meaningful chat with Paul Palnik, the studio proprietor. He is an extremely interesting guy and we were very impressed with his career and his story. His art was intricate, clever and wonderfully amusing. We loved his takes on «Mr. Right». If you are walking around in the neighborhood, be sure to stop in. You will be duly impressed and entertained. Mr. Palnik is quite engaging and interesting.

Paul Palnik is probably a really fun dad. The guy has a great sense of humor. He makes these insanely intricate pen and ink posters on a multitude of themes like Mr. Right, misguided religious leaders, dancing, and ‘thine tush’. Many of his cartoons deal with religion in one sense or another. Paul is the self-proclaimed god of cartoons, and I worship at his altar. The gallery isn’t open too often, but there are always posters in the window to study. I stood outside with a friend one night for over an hour reading every little saying and laughing hysterically. I’m thinking of getting her a Palnik poster for her birthday or maybe Christmas. If you do get a chance to stop in and meet Paul, take advantage of the opportunity. He’s a riot, a very friendly, big bear of a guy.

Kitchy, clever, and tongue FIRMLY planted in cheek… I dig Mr Palnik’s sense of style. Considered the only gallery dedicated to original cartoon art in Ohio, Mr Palnik is often present in the store performing his craft and ALWAYS willing to stop and chat and even produce novel pieces on commission. While this isn’t ‘high end’ art, it is great art none-the-less and«Cures» hangs proudly in my home.
