This is one of those times where I wish I could break out a review for the main course, vs the sides, but it isn’t, which ends up with some weird average of a three star for a place that really is more like a four. So first up, the sandwich: I got the meatball sandwich and it was muy good. The meatballs were excellent, the sauce tasted fresh and homemade and the cheese had it all sticking together like a good meatball sandwich should. I wasn’t as crazy about the bread as other reviewers, since I like a little crispiness to hold up a heavy set of meatballs, but that’s just a matter of preference. My side: The worst green beans I’ve ever had in my life. I don’t know what was going on with them, but they were really bad. I tasted one, and the taste still haunts me. Maybe they’d gone bad? The sauce on them tasted rancid, and because of them, I just have no desire to go back. It looks like they offer different sides now, and the sandwich WAS good, so definitely don’t avoid the place based on this review. Just don’t get the green beans.

Great food — slow service. This truck posts up pretty regularly at the Columbus Commons on Thursdays, and usually has the shortest line. I thought that would speed up my lunch trip. Alas… There was probably 10 – 15 minutes between ordering and getting my food. That seems excessive for a sliced pork sandwich and not-complex(but delish…) salad. Seems like maybe some better prep is in order? The food was worth the wait, though. The pork was incredibly flavorful, very tender, and plentiful. The sauteed onions were the perfect accompaniment. I could eat the bread all day long — light, buttery, crunch. Amazing. Although it’s a small thing, I really like the names for these sandwiches. I’m guessing they’re legit italian? But they’re not punny or comedic like other trucks. It makes it seem more high brow. And I’m a snob, so I like that. The sandwich is worth the wait, and I can only guess it will get better as time goes on.

Ohhh… Hi. :) I think I have a crush on these sandwiches. SWF seeks PBT bread(that’s pillowy, buttery, toasty), with grilled eggplant, asparagus, red peppers, and herbed ricotta cheese. Side salad of arugula, strawberries, and balsamic preferred. Seriously! Sooo delicious. Even on a hot day, the warm bread was not unwelcome. I love that these sandwiches automatically come with a fresh side salad. With all the heavier options going on around me, I knew my early morning spin class efforts wouldn’t be *TOO* undone by sneaky sides. I also tried the pork and onion sandwich. Geez. I practically blushed, it was so delicious. You don’t eat it, you make out with it. The only other option today was the bean salad. I will have to try it soon… another great option for fresh, delicious, HEALTHY food from a food truck. At the Food Truck roundup at the Commons on Thursdays, PerZoot usually has the shortest lines, though I have NOIDEA why. I brought a can of soda from work, but if not I would have gotten a Pellagrino Limonade or Orangina to make a nice romantic Italian picnic. The romance, of course, being between me and these sandwiches. Prices are a tad steep for the portions, but I’m also thankful for not being too full. Plus with all those fresh ingredients… I’m not too mad these sandwiches weren’t a cheap date. Unfortunately, they’ll keep you waiting, too. What we saved in line time, we gained in waiting for the sandwiches to get dressed and come down. Get there early, everyone wanted a piece of the eggplant sandwich, and it was taken off the menu. My stars lose their sparkle for slow assembly and low supply of already-limited offerings. Still, the memory of my «special time» with those sandwiches is still giving me tingles. That’s amore!

Tried PerZoot for the first time today at Columbus Commons, where trucks pull up from 11 – 2 Thursdays June-September. The truck is an old white«short bus.» It’s darling, as is the über-friendly woman standing in front of it taking orders and speaking excitedly about the veggies she cut and grilled this morning. My vegetarian sandwich was a refreshing reprieve from the typical when it comes to veggie fare. The asparagus, herbed ricotta, grilled peppers, and eggplant nestled between luscious focaccia was well seasoned with ingredients that play well together texturally. Wait time on food was moderate, and I was appropriately warned of this when i ordered. I love that the drink selection includes San Pellegrino Orangina and you get a side of tasty green beans. Even my tot gobbled a few up. I only wished for a bigger sandwich, especially considering the prices, and my son’s bite stealing.

Food trucks have to provide you something that you can’t get anywhere else. The mere idea of a food truck is so exotic, that we crave the new. The different. The exotic. So what can a sandwich food truck bring to the table that a sandwich shop cannot? PerZoot brings forth a different kind of sandwich. Sandwiches served on a tigelle! The best way that I could describe a tigelle is an herby round bread, buttery as fuck, that has the consistency of an English muffin. Sound like a good start? Okay, now top that with housemade meatballs that made me flutter my eyes and blush because of sheer ecstasy! No really, honestly. The meatballs were that good. Perfectly seasoned and not even close to dry in texture. Slap on some fresh mozz and serve it with a small side of lightly dressed arugula, and I think I might just have to take PerZoot home and marry it! PerZoot does walk on the line of how much money I’d be willing to pay for the size sandwich I am eating. I finished mine in about 3 ½ bites, for I think about $ 8. Add on a soda and you’re pushing just over $ 10 for lunch. Still, that doesn’t take away much from the delicious sandwiches being served by the dudes at PerZoot.
