I’ve been a Suzie’s sub diner for so long I can’t remember, except to say it was before they moved to Weber Road. This is a family-owned, family-friendly, neighborhood treasure. More take-out than dine-in, its subs are so good, I’ve never tried their pizza – but when an entire line of sandwiches is as strong as this, it’s hard not to order your favorite. The bread is always fresh and tasty, the meats are top quality and generous. Veggies are crisp and fresh. Preparation is consistent and expert. I’ve never had a bad sandwich at Suzie’s – not only that, they are consistently among the finest subs in central Ohio. I highly recommend the toasted«Big John» for any two-fisted eater. It’s one of a kind, an Italian sub with superb sausage, exceptional melted mozzarella, loaded with layers of fine deli meats. It never disappoints. Suzie’s is one of the places that if I ever move from central Ohio, I’m sure to miss, and will surely crave.

Susie’s is a little out of the way for most, but it’s worth the trip. The building it’s in is a little rough, but it’s clean. It’s situated in a rough part of town — I’d almost call it a slum — but the service is awesome and the guys behind the counter are super friendly. All of their subs are served up hot, and all ingredients are fresh. I went with the 12″ Italian today. It was packed with meat and fresh veggies along with a good bit of mozzarella — all for nine bucks! I can’t wait to come back here and order up a Big Jon sub, which is loaded up with meat and Italian sausage. I’m sure it’ll be just as great as the Italian that I had today.

This place is real. So real it might scare you a little. The décor is gruff, full of faded pictures, smoke stains and peeling paint. The service is a bit surly but still very friendly, polite and welcoming. Real people. The neighborhood might be regarded by some as «hood», to me it’s home and I’ve never felt unsafe here. The food is unbelievably real. Fresh, quality ingredients prepared by people who clearly take pride in what they do, and they do it well. All of this is practically given away to you at insanely low price points. A six inch sub here is equivalent to a 12 incher at most chains and runs from $ 3.75 to $ 6.50. This is the kind of place where magic happens. If you prefer your food to be made in a joyless, sterile environment go to subway or quiznos and have a mediocre, over priced sub. However if you, like me intend to «keep it real» with real food, made by real folks get yourself to Suzie’s.

I finally found another sub place with a great Italian sub in Columbus. When I lived in CT, there were mom and pop Italian restaurants everywhere that had awesome Italian subs. We don’t have as much of that here, but we do have Susie’s and their Big Jon sub. There’s a lot of meat on this sub, and it all tastes so so good. On top of the Italian deli meats, they throw a couple huge Italian sausages on the sandwich, depending on how big you get it. I think I went with the 12″, and I was struggling to finish it by the end. I suggest calling ahead, because it takes about 15 minutes for them to bake the sub, and there’s not many places to sit. The bread is made by Auddino’s, and it’s delicious. They also do pizza, and while I didn’t get to try it, it smelled pretty amazing in there. It looks like they sell more pizza than subs. The area can be a bit rough(if you’re not comfortable with that), but everyone eating there, and the guys working the place were all super friendly. The parking situation is tough, since there’s not a whole lot of spots. I ended up parking on the side of the building in my own makeshift spot. I’d definitely check this place out again and would try the pizza out as well.

Susie’s Sub Shop may look unwelcoming from the outside, but once inside the door, it’s all smiles, great food and great service. Susie’s tosses out a traditional Ohio, edge-to-edge pie. The crust is not crackery thin, but maintains a nice buttery crispness on the bottom. The mushrooms are fresh, not canned(bonus points). The toppings were all quality and the pizza had a little kick to it(either the sauce or the peps, I couldn’t tell — but it was very nice). We both enjoyed the pizza. While I’m not the biggest edge to edge fan, if you are, then Susie’s is worth a stop. Susie’s is one of those great locally owned small businesses where the owners are behind the counter offering up great service with pride in the food they prepare.

There is something truly amazing about local food. There is something really awesome about Susie’s. Located in the oft misunderstood and neglected North Linden neighborhood, Susie’s is everything that a sub shop should be. The bread, plays a big roll in the deliciousness, delivered from local favorite Auddino’s it is soft, and chewy on the inside, and has a really nice crunch on the outside when toasted. The ingredients are piled on, and taste very fresh, the amount of food you get for the price is above average. I enjoyed the Big Jon, which was their Italian sub, topped with a fantastic Italian sausage. when toasted a bit of crusty cheese brings it all together, in a fantastic melted sandwich of the gods. The cheesesteak, was also very tasty surprise. it comes topped with a healthy portion of fresh green peppers, onions, mushrooms and swiss. The shaved beef is moist and packs a good flavor. The wife thought it tasted better then cheesteaks in philly Sadly, I think Susie’s suffers from its location, a place that is hands and feet above other chains like Jersey Mikes, or Firehouse, it remains tucked on Weber Road just past 71. Everything is prepared when you order, so your toasty warm goodness takes about 10 mins to make, but it is worth it, You can enjoy it there, in a small but sparse dining area, or take it home. Susie’s also offers Pizza, and Pasta, but I couldn’t speak to those, and I don’t think I will ever feel the need to try them, get the subs !

Susies is located next door to the Daybreak Diner and the Dollar Store is on the other side. When I used to come here it was located on Westerville Rd. The fellow working told me that it had been there for thirty-five years. It’s been in it’s current location for eight years. I came down here yesterday to get a sub for dinner. I’d been here MANY times over the years but not in a long time. And I really don’t remember why. The subs are pretty good. I got the Italian which comes with Italian lunch meat on an Audinos hard roll. For the last few years I’ve been going to Jersey Mikes. The advantage to Susies is that their subs are toasted where JM’s are not. It’s a different taste and I don’t have any idea why JM’s doesn’t toast theirs but they don’t. Anyway, I’ll have to decide if I want to stick with JM’s or not.

You usually don’t find great food next to the Family Dollar store, but that’s one of the reasons this place is a gem. I came here because of a review I read on the CMH Gourmand blog. It sounded good, I love subs, and when I read they had an Italian sub with Italian sausage, I practically floated over the place the same day. This place is in a run-down part of town, in a run down building. You can tell that something’s up when the proprietor asks«How did you hear about us? Who sent you?» I felt welcome, but it must’ve been obvious I was from a different part of town. The place is old-school, but in a good way. Not much thought or investment in the way of décor; the place seems pretty dedicated to making pizza and subs as it always has. Unlike the squishy soft subs served up by the big chains, this one was a study in contrast, proportions, and premium ingredients. Contrast — bread that is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Lots of contrasting ingredients — spice of sausage, coolness of coleslaw, and so on. Proportions — the right amount of everything; a balanced taste. Not dripping with dressing. Premium ingredients — big slices of meat. Locally procured bread and Italian sausage. Not a place you’ll stumble upon by accident… unless you’re lost. Still, a pretty convenient location(near I71, close to Clintonville) that is close to any number of other places you might be visiting.

This place doesn’t look like much from the outside, which is probably why it doesn’t get all that much business. The inside isn’t really anything impressive either as the whole thing has been around forever and is a bit run down. The menu is simple and includes a variety of pizzas, subs, salads, and sandwiches. While the place itself looks pretty blah I can tell you the food is delicious. Their pizzas are pretty good, but if you go get a sub. They have 16″ subs for 10 bucks that you can get loaded with tons of meat and cheese and they taste great. Turn around between when you order and can get your food is about 20 minutes. There are 3 or 4 tables inside that you can sit down and eat at, but the place is mostly a takeout joint. The people there were nice and attentive so I have no complaints about the service.

I stopped in the area of Susie’s Subs today for another reason, while here I decided to order a pizza for dinner. As with most very small pizza/sub shops, it’s a pretty minimal set up inside; They have room for a few people to dine in, but it’s not really expected that you will. The atmosphere is designed for the employees to answer the phone, make your order and have you pick it up… not much else. I honestly don’t fault them for that at all because, really, who orders pizza to eat it anywhere but in front of the TV? One thing I’m noticing about Columbus pizza shops, for better or worse, they all have the same style of pizza. They all mostly use the straight cut, probably the same pepperoni, etc. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between a few of them. If you’ve had Donato’s, that’s «Columbus style», although a bit more toned down for the masses. Fortunately for me, I really like the«Columbus style» of pizza. So, the pizza I’m eating right now. Yeah, it’s pretty good. It’s 3.5 or 4 star pizza, as far as I’m concerned. The price was decent for a medium one topping. I live close enough that I may order again, but not close enough that they’d probably ever be my very first choice.(On the way home, I just noticed a pizza shop a couple of blocks away that I need to try.)

Had a rush order — 7 large pies ordered at 11:15AM — requested by Noon — All 7 were hot and ready by 12:05. Plain cheese to supreme — all were consistent and very good. Well Done!
