Varsity Inn OSU South

I just expect more out of a motel with the name Varsity Inn on the heels of OSU. The room smelled of significant smoke. The bed spread had stains on it and there were bugs on the counter top. Also our room was against a very loud but blessedly infrequent train tracks. The bath towels were very thin.

DO NOT STAY HERE! First, our door was clearly pried open previous, our room smelled like smoke when it was a non smoking room, our bathroom had hair all over the floor and piled in the corners. I didn’t even want to take my shoes off. We went to the store and bought our own cleaning supplies and even bought a mat/​rug for bathroom floor and a mat for the tub. To make things worse when we turned the sheets back the sheets were dirty and there was hair in the sheets. We went to the front desk and complained (we never do) the night time worker came to our room and even said how nasty it was and she wouldn’t stay there. We checked out that night and received a refund.

This isn’t a Hilton, but it also isn’t a hourly motel.
The lobby is clean, well lit, and has signs that say things like «best motel.»
The room is small with very little room to move around. The bed is kind of hard, The TV is a «CRT» and mine didn’t work. No alarm clock or luggage rack in my room. The soap and shampoo are cheapo — so bring you own.
Towels are thin. Showerhead is very good.
The AC was working fnie. My room was next to train tracks. The train tracks had daily train service.

Pros: The Location was great, 2 miles from our conference and the Bob Evans across the parking lot was convenient for ordering breakfast take-​out to eat in our room. The bed was comfortable and the room itself was clean and cozy. CONS: The bathroom was very awkward. The bathroom itself was quite large, but the shower was SUPER tiny, no tub, the towels are small and thin. There were no counters, no place to put your toiletries and the toilet was so high our feet dangled. The shower looks gross and the drain cover was loose… I had to wear my flip flops in the shower because stuff from the drain would come up and float around your feet. SO GROSS! There was also glass in the parking lot from a broken window… I didn’t feel safe at all. But thankfully we were able to park our car right outside our room. I doubt we will ever stay here again.

DO NOT STAY HERE! We had suspicious-​looking bugs in our room, did some internet research and were extremely upset to find that they were without a doubt BED BUGS. We called management to let them know and they were rude and unapologetic, the switched us to a different room but did not offer any discounts or even an apology. Their reaction made us worry that this was a complaint they had received before, because they were not at all surprised. Unfortunately. we came to Columbus for a conference at OSU and both had research presentations the following day, yet were unable to get a good night’s sleep thanks to this appalling situation.

This hotel was a last minute decision and I couldn’t have been happier with my reservation. It is a small hotel where the staff are extremely friendly and the rooms immaculately clean. You even get a large refrigerator and microwave. Definitely recommend this place to anyone staying in Columbus!

Nice place, works for me. Great location and they are dog-​friendly! The only issue I had is the back of the property is right up against the train tracks and they can often be loud (but they go by fast). It’s not as bad as that hotel/​train scene from «My Cousin Vinny», but just in case you’re a light sleeper, you might want to request a room towards the front of the property. Still a great place to stay!
