«The Concord Blue Devils are a drum and bugle corp and part of Drum Corps International(DCI). In short, DCI is like a professional marching band, only the participants are between the ages of 16 – 21 and they don’t get paid. They do it purely for the competition and experience and the camraderie. DCI is a wonderful combination of athleticism and art. I first fell in love with DCI when I was in high school in 1989. That year, the Santa Clara Vanguard won the DCI World Championships with the highest final score in history, 98.80, which has since been eclipsed. They won with a positively moving performance of pieces from The Phantom of the Opera. I was hooked after that, although I’m sure it had to do with the fact that I was in marching band. I’ve been a huge fan ever since, and growing up in LA, I was excited to be in the Bay Area where two of the top drum corps in the tnation were nearby(Concord Blue Devils and the Santa Clara Vanguard). The Blue Devils are widely regarded as the best drum corps in history of the championships since they started in 1972 and are the only corps to win a championship in each decade. In those 35 years, the Blue Devils have won the championship an unmatched 11 times. They are famous for their incredible horn lines, crisp marching and formations, and killer drum line. In addition, their simple yet awe-inspiring warm up(that’s right, WARMUP) is widely known as well. They typically do jazz, and if you can’t imagine jazz done well while marching on a football field, watch BD»
