My kids love the cheeseburgers and chopped beef sandwiches. The food is good but not out of this world. You will need to add sauce and salt to everything. The beans are tasty. Today I had the chicken breast and it was really good, juicy and tender. Steer clear of the bathrooms. They have a smell so bad you don’t want to breath or even walk close to them, and I don’t have a weak stomach. All in all the place is pretty decent and best thing here is the burgers in my opinion. We will return since it’s close to home.

Best bbq in Conroe! Love the chopped beef backed potato and then I add the extra meat and get the spicy sausage! It sooo good! The Mac n cheese is creamy and yummy, just add a lil pepper. Lunch time is usually busy, but it is worth the wait. They have special needs kids working there also, and I think that is great! They are always the friendliest and sweetest people! Love them!

Great service. The menu options were excellent and very affordable. The jalapeño sausage was delicious great flavor and not too spicy. The ribs were full of flavor and moist on the bone. The tea was fresh and so were all of the vegetables. They also have hamburgers for people who do not want bbque. They have clean restrooms. They also have a bakery with pies and cookies and cake. The selection was large and fresh. They have lots of seating and the areas were clean. We will return when we are in the area.

McKenzie’s is our go-to BBQ place in Conroe. They have a wide variety of options. Even the little picky eaters will enjoy this place. The interior is spacious but somehow has a down home feeling. When you walk in, the counter in front is where you order BBQ. But if you want a burger then you have to go to the room on your left and order from there. The service is always good. There’s also a little bakery in the back that you should stroll through.

Food was pretty tasty, service was lacking. They gave us a LOT of food, but they all seemed a little antisocial… It was our first time and no one wanted to tell us what their specialties are, or how their special plate worked… Lots of cold to go options though, and their mystery green juice was good and tasted like jolly ranchers.

One of my favorite BBQ joints in the whole Conroe-Houston area. Everything I’ve ever eaten here was pretty good. Almost as good as home made.

This place is super cute and has pretty good BBQ. I prefer beef ribs but this place didnt have them so I got a chopped beef sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. Once a little BBQ sauce was added it was exactly what i hoped for from a chopped beef sandwich. The mac and cheese was really good. Super duper cheesy. The people I came with stuck to more traditional meal choices such as the pork ribs, potato salad, sausage and pinto beans. Everyone seemed very pleased with their meal. It also happened to be their 20th anniversary so there was a band and they were handing out cake! Even if the food was just ok I would probably still come back since i liked the atmosphere so much, luckily in addition to a great atmosphere they have good food! There is also a bakery tucked away in the back with a great looking selection of treats!

Been here three times now, has been excellent every time! The regular hamburger basket is a ½ lb patty on a delicious patty and if you choose the fries, they are thin hand cut, cooked to a nice crisp. The sliced beef and turkey plates are also quite good. Also you must try the full order of onion rings! Similar to the fries, they are thin cut and cooked to perfection! The service is always great and the restaurant is clean. For dessert the cobblers sound delicious but there is also an amazing bakery connected to this restaurant. You must at least walk through for the smells!

I am a lover of Corkscrew and seeing as though they are shut down for August, I came here on a friends recommendation that McKenzies is the 2nd best BBQ in Montgomery. Ordered: 2 Meat plate — Brisket and Ribs Sides — Mac and Cheese, Potato Salad Cost — $ 11.50 The ribs were fine, no better though than what you would smoke yourself. The brisket was diabolical. Drier than the asphalt on 45 and probably less tasty. Mac and Cheese — The wallpaper paste review submitted by Bridget E is accurate. You could also add sour to the flavour profile of this side. Potato salad was ok, although it was nothing better than what you could buy at any grocery store. Positives — the staff were super friendly and there was zero wait time. Spicy BBQ sauce was also really nice. If Corkscrew has an avg 4.5 rating on Unilocal, then I have no choice but to give McKenzies a 1. They are nowhere near half as good and to rate them any higher would be a disservice to anyone who likes BBQ. I would definitely go back to try the bakery that is connected, but I will never go back for BBQ.

It was edible. The ribs and brisket were tough. The Mac and cheese was like wall paper paste. There were a few good things… the cobblers and banana pudding were delicious and the BBQ sauce had a good flavor and made the ribs and brisket taste better. The staff was very friendly, the food came out quickly and the restaurant was clean. Very disappointed considering the recent high rating.

McKenzie’s Barbecue is located off Interstate 45 on North Frazier St. just minutes from downtown Conroe. Texas is known for its BBQ and while in Conroe you will not find any better. McKenzie’s Barbecue is a family tradition, from brothers to sister and now the torch has been passed on to the second generation. Darin and his wife Kathy McKenzie opened the Conroe location in 1995. Each year, for well over a decade, it has been voted the Best BBQ in Montgomery County. This no small feat… keep in mind we are deep in the heart of Texas. As you walk into the large restaurant, you can immediately smell the aroma of smoked meats and BBQ. You can actually taste the love smoked deeply into their meats. The environment here is exactly what you would expect to see in a true Texas BBQ palace: symbols of state and American pride on all the walls, including historical documents and signs. I took about 10 minutes to just walk around this cool little museum of Texas history. After that, it was time to get down to business! We ordered a couple of sweet teas and a sampler platter of fried pickles, fried jalapenos and onion rings. Unbelievable fried goodies! This platter comes with Ranch Dressing to dip it all in, but, boy, I tell ya what, there is no need. Everything is perfectly breaded, not excessively so like in some places, and the flavor was great. I highly suggest you get this as an appetizer. I mean, what Texas meal is complete without something fried, right? For our meat bonanza, we ordered the Sliced Beef Brisket, Pork Spare Ribs, Sausage and Jalapeño Sausage. Take a look at the bark on that brisket and pork ribs! Now that is how you do it! Honestly, as good as the best ribs I have ever had. My favorite is always Pork Spare Ribs and these just fell right off the bone. The Jalapeño Sausage was also very good and spicy. All in all… it was all good! Take a look at the photography and let me know if you don’t want to go hop in the truck and grab some BBQ! Like craft beer, BBQ has different styles and preferences depending on the location and who you’re talking to, but in my mind all BBQ is good, just some is better than others. Well, the BBQ here at McKenzie’s is definitely better than others! So, when you are in Conroe visiting the lake or traveling from Houston to Dallas or vice versa, I highly recommend you stop by and get your Texas BBQ fix from the best. You can thank me later!

I can’t think of a place I’d rather get a burger in Conroe than here. The bar-b-q is good too, although I’d really like to see more sides choices. If you order the double burger be ready to be stuffed! It’s a man-sized beast of a burger! You get to put your own condiments on the burger. They have a small condiments bar. If you order a burger or chicken nuggets, you’ll pick it up from the room to the left of where you ordered. There is where the condiments bar is. If you want jalapeños you have to get them next to where you ordered(by the drinks). There is also a bakery to the right that has some awesome sweets!

Went here 20 minutes before closing because we were on a road trip and were unsure where to get food. The staff was still very friendly and helpful. I opted for the 4 meat platter with two sides to try a bit of everything. I got the Sausage, Ham, Spare Ribs, and Sliced Beef accompanied by the Beans and Potato Salad. The Ribs I thoroughly enjoyed; they were meaty and nice and juicy. I liked dipping them in the barbecue and jalapeño sauces. The other meats, I didn’t think to much of, I’d say they were well made, but I feel like I should have just ordered a full plate of ribs. As for the sides, I wasn’t a fan of the beans, but I did like the potato salad after sprinkling some salt on it. I think this place need a second go during more active hours before I make up my mind, but for right now, the friendly service pushes this joint from a 3 to a 4 star.

I live for the spicy BBQ sauce they make! Slathered on top of their chop beef sandwiches are to die for! You can’t beat a place that is connected to a bakery that makes fresh sweets daily. My dad claims they have the BEST pecan pie in all of Texas! Personally, I enjoy their little sugar cookies that you get by the dozen. And to top it off, they are SOOO cheap!

When in Rome got to do with the Romans do so in Texas we had to have our barbecue! We came here for lunch and it was about half full. The place isn’t so fancy but it looked legitimate. I had the three meat platter and I chose brisket, pork ribs, and the jalapeño sausage. The jalapeño sausage with spicy, juicy, and full of flavor. The pork ribs were pretty much standard that they were well cooked and fell off the bone. I wasnt a fan of the brisket which was dry and tough. The spicy barbecue sauce was very good and I slathered it all over my meats. I also liked that they had onions, pickles, and jalapeño slices by the tubs so you can help yourself to it. My lunch was about $ 15 which isn’t bad considering it had all the meats. My friend had the pulled pork and she said it was delicious the next time I will have to try that instead of the brisket!
