Amazing place… Is a must if you are in coral gables or you love sushi. Great service and the manager take care of their guest! I love this kind of places where the owner still working inside, so everything works perfect!

I WAS a frequent customer but I will no longer go there. They have a ridiculous policy regarding their specials — you have to dine in to get them even if you want to order and pick it up yourself. I offered to even include the tip and the Manager’s response was negative. It is clear that they have no customer service focus.

Obba Sushi is a mix between Latin fusion and sushi and the combination is wonderful. I really enjoyed revisiting what use to be La Cofradia. The sushi is interesting here, lot’s of combinations. Vegetarians beware, most friend items are friend in the same oil as fish. Kudos to the waiter for being honest! Portions were surprisingly on the larger side. Ice tea here is limited to green tea which I didn’t care for but the waiter was nice enough to convert hot tea into ice tea. Vegetable dumplings were great. Really enjoyed the vegetable fried rice. This restaurant is large with a lot of room. Great bathrooms. Music is lounge vibrant and really turns this into a fun and relaxing dining experience. Keep up the good work.

Horrible. Don’t even bother. I was excited a new sushi place opened up so close to my apartment. However, we ordered delivery, and when it arrived, it wasn’t fresh and was absolutely tasteless. Gross!

Its a bold move for Obba sushi to open in an area that hosts at least three other outstanding sushi venues in less than a mile radius, but it’s a matter of time before this new spot gets on the prime location list. The venue can hold its own up against any other competitor. Very good sushi at a reasonable price with great atmosphere. Obba also features live music on Saturday nights that makes it a great place for a casual night out with the family or friends and offers something then other venues do not. In addition to great sushi, you get high quality entertainment to boot. 5 stars

A vibe very similar to the much more elaborate and expensive Sushi Samba– a three minute walk up Ponce de Leon. Searching for affordable and healthy lunch options within walking distance of our Miami personal injury office– we discovered this place in a spot that was formerly a Peruvian restaurant. Apparently, opened for several years– we did not even know it existed. It was relatively empty– our server Carina– from the Philippines was charming and efficient. I ordered the sashimi platter and a salad– Bryan ordered the chicken teriyaki. Both were served in portions neither of us could finish. My sashimi was excellent– fresh and well presented. Price for us both was under $ 30.00 with tip– which for Coral Gables was very reasonable. Would I go back? Given the location, price and service I will be back soon. Why only four stars? My order was originally served incorrectly– but corrected at no charge. And while I liked it a lot it wasn’t great.

After considering some other sushi places we choose Obba to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. We went on Tuesday around 5:30 pm. Richard, our server told us about the happy hour offer(2×1 speciality rolls, 2 beers for $ 5, 2nd drink half price) and he answered all our questions about the menu. We ordered Lemon Sea Bass(my husband liked it) and Obba, South Beach, Dragon & Chipotle rolls. Fresh sushi, nice flavor. The service was very good. they took care of us when our glasses were half empty. For desserts we ordered Thai Donuts & Choco Volcano.delicious. This is a place that I’ll come back on weekdays for the price, quality of food & service.

So happy I happened upon Obba. It’s rare to find an Asian restaurant with such an elegant atmosphere. A tasteful mossy Buddha greets us as we enter and meet the friendly staff. Uplifting inspiring music set a relaxed and sexy tone for the plate of delicious sashimi sushi platter that featured the chefs special favorites. Very fresh fish, the salmon and tuna very good cuts and the presentation lovely. The avocado salad was so good! Huge chunks of perfectly ripe avocado with spring mix topped with micro greens, I didn’t even need to add dressing it was so good au natural!

Beautiful interior with live green wall and water streaming over Buddha. It gives the whole place such an alive, fresh and sanctuary atmosphere. The food is delicious and they have many options for vegetarians. I had kimchee soup which was huge and full of veggies, avocado salad that was amazing and didn’t even need any dressing and a veggie roll. I am so full!

Ordered sushi to be delivered to the office. One of our coworkers has a VERYBAD allergy to cucumbers. We instructed the restaurant of the allergy but somehow the rolls still had cucumber. Horrible alerrgic reaction after just tasting 1 roll. Hives, trouble breathing, swollen. We reached out to the manager and he was unwilling to even refund the money for her order. Think twice about eating here if you have any type of food allergy.

I have had the pleasure of singing here several times, and they always take great care of us. The sushi is delicious, freshly made with some different roll combinations in addition to favorites like Rainbow & Dragon rolls. Everything is reasonably priced with a beautiful ambiance(Buddha fountain!) — great Gables hang!

Where do I begin? This restaurant was trying way too hard to be cool. The wait staff was lazy. The minimal aesthetic was too much. Or should i say, too little? The manager refused to help us with an issue. We and with 3 other tables in the place had with a groupon they wouldn’t take and we lost money for it. My husband and I are not happy. The singer was the only positive about this place. Actually, I am positive about one more thing– we are never going back. If i could give zero stars, I would.

Came to Obba Sushi on a recommendation by a friend who is a food blogger. Went with some coworkers during lunch and was surprised at how empty is was. It’s 12:30p on a weekday in the Gables. Almost every restaurant is bustling at this time. Maybe the ambiance makes people think it’s too expensive or not many people know it’s open? You definitely get the feel from walking in that this is a place you come to at night instead of mid-day. It was quiet but wouldn’t be surprised if there was loud music playing at night. Might even be a great place to come for a birthday dinner. For food my friend and I split the Obba Sandwich, Crunchy Spicy Tuna roll and Salmon Tataki. I must admit that pictures of the Obba Sandwich were what brought me to this place. Good as it is pretty but wasn’t the most amazing thing I’ve ever had. Tuna roll was good too. Did it’s job but again not amazing. We got the large Salmon Tataki after the waitress insisted the small was too little for us. She described the amount but putting her hands in a circle. The amount could have filled an entire pasta bowl. We left more than half and paid twice as much. For dessert we ordered the Thai donuts. Order came with 6 small pieces with condescend milk drizzled on top. No side sauce for dipping nor powdered sugar. Comes with a side of vanilla ice cream. Overall, food was just okay and not worth the cost. We each spent a little over $ 30 for lunch. Not ideal when there are about 5 other sushi spots in the Gables to get decent sushi for much less. All this one has over the others is ambiance. Considering how empty it was I expected MUCH better service. We were there over an hour and the waitress could go long while without checking on us. As of now, I’m not rushing to return.

A friend and I found out about OBBA because of a promotion we found offering a free sushi roll. Honestly, we weren’t expecting anything special, but OBBA was incredibly impressive. The dim lighting and Asian décor are visually pleasing and I was commenting on how I would love to come back before I even received my food. I’ve never been a huge fan of raw fish.(You might wonder why a girl who hates raw fish frequents sushi joints, but I can eat 100 California rolls in one sitting and will fight with anyone who tries to convince me that cali rolls don’t count as sushi.) Anyhow, for the first time, I decided to leave my comfort zone and try raw fish once more, and I loved it! This was the first sushi place I’d ever gone to where I didn’t find the texture of salmon and whitefish uncomfortable in my mouth. Paired with the eel sauce, which wasn’t unnecessarily sweet like how most places prepare it, both my friend’s roll and mine were delicious. I can now say I like raw sushi. Sushi that’s done well. Service was great. Server, Jorge, was well informed and our water was never empty. The food took a bit longer to get to us considering that there were only two other parties dining, but that’s the cost of proper sushi, I suppose. Service is seriously impeccable… I thought I lost my credit card the next day and when I expressed this to the manager, Eduardo, he didn’t open a drawer and say ‘nah we dont have it sorry’ like 90% of establishments would have have done. He – unprompted – went through each of the server books individually and looked through the cushioning of where I had been seated the previous night. Didn’t find my card, but definitely appreciated how much he helped even though he was probably 99% sure it wasn’t there. He also frequented our table while we were eating to make sure all was well, always smiling. Thank you, Eduardo. They have a buy one get one sushi roll deal 4−7pm for happy hour that I will surely be back to experience in the near future. Since OBBA has 283957201 creatively designed rolls to try, it’s a great place to go with a few friends and get 10 or so rolls for the price of 5 and sample the various rolls. good food, good service. What more can you ask for?

I was actually pretty impressed with this place! It was rather empty for a Sunday night, with only one other party in the restaurant. The service was friendly and accommodating. I started off with the spicy tuna tartar appetizer. An absolute favorite of mine! Very delicious and had great flavor. I would come back here on a weekly basis just to get this appetizer. I got the small size since I was getting a roll, but I would imagine you could get the large to get as a meal. My dining company got the spring rolls as an appetizer. Really good, as well! For dinner rolls, we got the south Miami and the Obba roll. Both unique and great flavors. Loved them both, but it was a big heavy with all the fried filling. I would go back and try something new. Ambience was nice. Food was great. Service was average. Nice new sushi spot in the gables(like we need another one) that I plan to go back to.

This review is probably going to be similar to my sister’s(Kimberly K) as we went to each together but I’m going to review it anyways: D We were looking for something fresh and new to try in the Miracle Mile vicinity and stumbled onto this jewel. You almost wouldn’t even notice it was there, so I like that its a little away from the hustle and bustle of the Mile but still close enough to the action. The ambiance is fantastic, I almost feel like I’m not really in Miracle Mile. Its very zen-like, very welcoming and my Asian Ancestors approved! We immediately were greeted by the Manager and our lovely waitress, both who were so very attentive, helpful and more so. PATIENT with us as we asked so many questions while picking our selections. We started off with two appetizers: + Obba Sandwich + Spicy Tuna Tartar Firstly, get ANYTHING off of their special Tartar menu. I’m sure they are ALL great. but I definitely know that for the future times that I dine here, I will always try one of their many delicious sounding selections off of here. Secondly, if you’re indecisive on what to get for an App, get something with their namesake right?! Its 4 very thick-cut pieces, so very easily can be shared and be careful! Because it can be filling! Entrée(we were a littttttttttttle bit hungry as you can probably see): + Obba Roll + Medellin Roll(Oscar Medellin Roll?) + Mak-Su Roll + Yaki-soba If you’re getting the Obba Sandwich as an App, then I would suggest getting a different roll other than the Obba roll only because its similar and to widen those taste buds! It has the same concept so its almost like ordering it twice. For us atleast, it was the perfect way to take some home for later haha. Their Medellin Roll was very different and very interesting!(Even named after a customer!) It was a giant cucumber roll witht he most interesting blend of jalapeño, white tuna topped off with a strong lemon zest! Definitely a new type of roll that I have never experienced! If you’re daring — try this one out! Mak — Su was a roll that I wanted to try. Its a rice-less roll that had the most scrumptious amount of salmon in it. You can order tuna instead of salmon, btw! And lastly, the Yaki-Soba. my favorite. I’m a huge lover of Yaki-Soba. so of course, I had to order and try theirs to see how it parred to the rest and its definitely a winner! Its a little different but still the amazing taste and blend that I love! If you’re looking for a traditional Japanese noodle dish, this is it. ALSO! All their entrees are prepared and cooked with Peanut Oil. Alot healthier and brings out alot more flavor. but would advise against it and MAJOR heads up if you’re allergic! AND, I love that their sauces with the roll come ALREADY blended with Eel + Spicy Mayo. I mean… thats already how I eat my rolls anyways, so how perfect is that? Its also mixed perfectly enough that it doesn’t really dilute into each other that if you wanted just the Mayo or just the Eel you could play around and do that. There is definitely some great Japanese restaurants nearby: Izakaya, Sakura, Ikura, etc. But if you’re looking for a new place to try out(Only been open 3 months apparently!) and looking for a place that is innovative mixed with good ‘ol fashion Japanese(NOT ‘Asian Fusion’, NOT a blend of Viet/Jap/Thai) this place is for you! DEF recommend! I will be back! Gentlemen, FANTASTIC place for a date night.(You’re welcome)

This brand new 2 month old restaurant is simply beautiful with its Buddha decoration greeting you at the entrance. They also have belly points for all those belly card holders out there to accumulate, SCORE! And they serve organic hot tea in a variety of flavors, double win for organic! My sis, mama and I started off with the passion fruit hot tea, along with two appetizers(Obba sandwich and spicy tuna tartar). Their passion fruit hot tea has an amazing aroma with the perfect hint of fruitiness. Some fruit based teas are too tangy, but I enjoyed this one so much that I had four cups. The Obba sandwich appetizer is perfect for 3 – 4 people to share without filling up. Imagine a sushi roll in sandwich form, thick beds of rice packed with shrimp tempura, imitation crab, and avocado. This was my favorite appetizer compared to the spicy tuna tartar, which was spicy tuna stacked on top of rice, fresh chunks of avocado on the bottom, and topped off with fried shallots. I only wish the shallots were crispier to add the crunch I was expecting to this appetizer. If you’re looking for a sushi roll as an appetizer, I’d recommend the Medellin roll. We ordered it as an entrée but it’s more fitting as an appetizer because of the lemony twist that opens up your appetite. The inside is literally just a thick block of cucumber, which was overpowering, but the lemon infused, jalapeño/scallion/white tuna mixture on top of this roll was fantastic! Their Obba roll is similar to the Obba sandwich appetizer, except it’s filled with more imitation crab. Their salmon kanisu is STUFFED with salmon, super fitting for salmon lovers out there. Their yaki soba noodle entrée was by far my favorite entrée of the night… Hands down the BEST yaki soba I’ve had! The texture is ramen-noodle like, very tender, the plate serves a never ending portion filled with little chunks of chicken, along with thinly sliced red, green, and yellow peppers. Tastes absolutely wonderful! If you’re a yaki soba fan, don’t miss out on theirs. We wrapped up our dinner with cinnamon-apple spring rolls served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream… And I requested Nutella to be drizzled on the plate cause why not? ALLORNOTHING! Haha. I have no regrets despite my stomach feeling like bursting because that dessert combo was bomb. It’s literally a crispy spring roll filled with gooey warm cinnamon apples, which I smeared with Nutella + ice cream with each bite. I appreciate how attentive our server and manager were with my table, as well as the food suggestions they gave. The portions in every plate were all very generous! You can count on leaving happily with yummy leftovers.

Came here to try OBBA’s lunch during Coral Gables Restaurant Week. I saw pic of their OBBA Sandwich on Unilocal and I decided I had to try it. I ordered: — Spring Rolls: These were so uneventful… even with the sweet chili sauce, they just plain sucked. No flavor inside or out. I ate them cuz I ordered them and I REFUSE to waste food, but yea these sucked BIGTIME! — Pork Gyozas: These come with either your option of steak or fried pork and vegetable dumplings. I got these filled with steamed pork. It comes with a Sesame Ponzu Sauce on the side. Again the flavors were so bland… You get some flavor when you bit into the pork but overall I was super disappointed with these. Pork dumplings sound so yummy, these weren’t. –Yellowtail Guacamole Tartar: I’m somewhat familiar with Tartar but my sister has much more experience eating tartar. The tartar was alright… It NEEDED some eel sauce to make it GOOD… but it shouldn’t. Eel sauce is a bit of a cop out bc anything with eel sauce will taste good eh? The tartar was average, I’d give it a 3 out of 5. –Obba Sandwich: Had shrimp tempura, imitation krab mix, and avocado and a spicy katzu Sauce. This dish was actually really good. I would order this again if I HAD to come back to OBBA. If you come though, this is definitely a safe bet to taste awesome. –Mochi Ice Cream: Came in three flavors: mango, green tea, and strawberry. There is this odd layer surrounding the ice cream inside these balls. It’s gummy and a bit sticky. Overall these were really nice. I preferred the green tea and strawberry flavors. This is a bit different than your typical dessert and tasted good, so this is one I’d recommend if you’re trying OBBA. — Apple Spring Rolls: These were again a total disappointment. In fact, all the dishes that came in those wonton wrappers SUCKED. Apple cinnamon pie filling stuffed inside a wonton and fried. Served with ice cream on the side. It was just so blah, just like the appetizers. I personally would not order these. I ate these bc I paid for them, no other reason. I actually really thought I was going to like OBBA based on their menu. I even had them on my list to visit for dinner within the next couple days because I was dying to try their Popcorn Lobster Roll. Although I’m still curious about that roll… based on my lunch experience I don’t see myself returning. With so many other restaurants in the area participating in Gables Restaurant Week that I need to check out, I won’t risk coming back to a place that served me a lunch like today. Overall, i’m giving OBBA a 2 star rating because I left unsatisfied. The ONLY thing that was actually good was the OBBA sandwich(highly recommend it) and even the Mochi Ice cream was a dessert i’d order again.

Eduardo, the manager, greeted us and showed us to our reserved table. He spent a few moments explaining the menu, which was created by Walter Zapata. He was nice but was unable to answer my question about where the scallops on their menu came from and whether they were fresh or frozen. Next, our waitress offered us drinks. We opted to taste a few of their cold sakes. I loved the Ty Ku Coconut sake, which was a semi sweet coconut lovers delight! It was light and refreshing so I decided to have a champagne glassful($ 7) with dinner. For the appetizers, we chose a cold and a hot appetizer. The cold option was the Salmon Lemon Basil($ 10). This dish was delicious! It included thinly sliced salmon, wrapped around micro basil and plated on an Obba leaf(9 pieces). What stuck out most was how fresh the fish tasted with the lemon essence and greens it was wrapped around. Our hot appetizer was the Fried Scallops($ 12). The dish came with 9 generous scallops, skewered together in groups of 3. They were flash fried and crunchy. The accompanying curry mayo was flavorful. This appetizer also came with a fresh mixed green salad and ginger dressing. Great combination of flavors and textures. For my meal, I chose the Obba Sashimi($ 32). It’s a 16-piece serving with salmon, white salmon, yellow tail and tuna. All of the fish was VERY fresh and generously cut. I thought that the pieces were larger than other places in Coral Gables, which may account for the higher price of the platter. The dećor is modern and sleek, with beautiful artwork and relaxing music. The floor to ceiling window sheers made the space feel open and light. The grass wall art made the space feel organic and Zen-like. My biggest critique is the menu design. Since the venue is somewhat dark, it is VERY difficult to read the menu — small white letters on a black background. My guest and other patrons used the flashlights on their cell phones to see the small writing. My recommendation is to rework the menu to make it more conducive to reading it in the day or evening. They also have a nicely painted Obba Sushi car for local area delivery. Through the Eat24 app, it’s only a $ 3 delivery charge with a $ 20 minimum order. Plus, unlike other local area restaurants, you don’t have to wait for a 3rd party to pick up your food. Cool! Overall, I enjoyed my experience and will definitely go back. I’ll also add them to my delivery list too!
