Arrived with my party of two five minutes before another party of four, but had to wait longer because the party of four was seen by the restaurant staff as more of a priority. Look around. Your restaurant is full of four tops. Seat people in the order that they came. You don’t show appreciation for your guests if you have them wait longer because their checks will be smaller. Thanks for putting a bad taste in my before I even had a bite.

Absolutely amazing. They have really cheap lunch options for the gables and service is quick. They have a ton of other options besides sushi but their sushi is awesome. The miso soup is better than average and make sure you try some of the hot tea. Everything on the wall is fun and different — great for adventurous eaters. You can have whatever you want here, something traditional or something new. Not to be racist, but there are always a bunch of asians here so you know its legit! The atmosphere is nice, never too loud or crazy. Fish is fresh and delicious.

Has been one of favorite Japanese restaurants for many years. This place most reminds me of a Tokyo eatery. With long established reputation comes the danger of slipping. The food quality is still good, but service is definably slipping. The staff seems rude and inattentive at times. Yesterday was definitely one of those days. The service staff kept confusing my order and at one point just lied about it. Lots apologies, but they didn’t make it right.

Food poisoning guaranteed. Find somewhere else for your safety. My boyfriend had dinner there and it was not a pleasant night. That should tell you something about the quality of the fish. Sushi is a dangerous business, if you can’t keep the quality to the acceptable standards, don’t do sushi.

Very nice local eatery. Nice ambiance, although strange that the chef does not serve you at the sushi bar! But good miso and sweet shrimp. They need spicier Wasabi and better soy sauce

So I have been meaning to drop by Izakaya for the last 5 years… somehow I always end up eating Japanese somewhere else… my bad… Sushi gods, I apologize. Izakaya is probably the most authentic Japanese joint in Miami. They serve fresh sushi, at affordable prices… and they have a TON of ever-changing specials. They know their business… and it must be appreciated. They dont have many exotic rolls, besides the tempura, most of their stuff is on the simpler side, but it tastes great. I loved it!

We go here at least twice a week for various dinner dishes. I also go here for lunch sometimes too. The wahoo tataki is a strong favourite entrée/starter of ours. They have a chalk board of specials so sometimes you will not find it up there. Followed usually by a main of either the sushi sashimi combo or the seafood broth. Traditional family run Japanese restaurant one road behind miracle mile. This off of the beaten track place is packed full of locals. I have been going here for the past three years and have been reluctant to share. You may force me to have to wait in line for a table now. The food is fresh, made in front of your eyes if you sit at the sushi bar, and tasty. I felt I had to writing something about this place as it is so good. «See you tomorrow!» Says the owner as you walk out of his restaurant full of deliciousness.

The menu is pretty big so I decided to order a few items from the menu and the blackboard specials they had. It was my first time here so my friend and I ventured out of my normal food choices. I shared a lot of plates. Here is a brief list of what we consume: The small jawfish(found on the blackboard) was a bit fishy and reminded me of sardines. It was very good. The portion was enough to share too. I had the tekka handroll. First time enjoying a hand roll the fish was fresh and it tasted very good too. The wahoo tataki(found on the blackboard) was probably one of my favorite dishes. It had onions, garlic and ginger. A must try if you don’t mind eating raw fish The seafood ramen was delicious. Probably one of the best ramen I’ve had in a while. Good portion of a variety of seafood and the flavors were delicious. Overall it’s a must try. The service was quick and you can tell it’s very popular when it got pretty packed as soon as it opened.

Su-shin Izakaya was my go-to for takeout sushi while living in the Gables. I always planned on dining in to write a more well-rounded review and finally had the chance! I’m a sashimi fan and here it’s so fresh and delicious. I sat at the bar to watch the chefs meticulously prepare each dish that went out to the bustling room of hungry diners. I devoured my mix sashimi plate with 16 pieces of four different fish. It’s reasonably priced($ 16) for the quality and quantity compared to other spots. When I order out, I always get the Nigri combo which comes with six pieces of sushi, a tekka roll, and soup/salad for $ 10.95. If you’re not a sushi fan, the menu really is so much more. The perk of dining in is that you can take a look at the chalkboard specials lining the wall. I’d be confident order anything here from ramen to grilled meat and assume it’s all pretty good. Of course, parking in the Gables can be a pain but there is a small Pay by Phone lot next to the restaurant that usually has spots if it’s not super peak hours. A Coral Gables favorite for many, Su-shin Izakaya hopefully isn’t going away anytime soon!

The lunch special is AMAZING for 9 bucks which includes tax. I ordered the sashimi lunch special which included sashimi, California role, tempura, soup and salad. The tempura was absolutely one of my favorites because the veggies were thin slices and it brought two nice sized shrimp. Great quality food for a great price.

Excellent. I happened to like the items listed on the black boards that line the wall better than the sushi, but both made me happy. — Monkfish livers — probably my favorite dish we had. So unctuous. It tasted like essence of fish. A must order for me. — Lotus root tempura — great texture. I found that the lotus root itself was very mild and did not have a strong flavor itself, but when dipped in the sauce(which had some mustard in it) the dish really came together. — Pork sausages — quite good. Very fresh tasting. I recommend dipping in the mustard that accompanies the dish. — Salmon collar — probably my second favorite dish. They also have hamachi collar, which I’ll look to try next time. — Sushi — good quality fish. For me, the uni stood out as the best of the bunch. But it was all good.

Found this great little sushi place on Unilocal and I was not disappointed. We came in on a Thursday evening and parked just outside. We were seated immediately and greeted by our server shortly thereafter. The specials are written on blackboards on the wall with detailed descriptons which helps answer any questions you may have. We enjoyed edemame and Tuna Youke for our appetizer and ordered two rolls; the Spider and the Eel. Both came together on the same plate and were delicious. The prices were comparable to other Coral Gables sushi places. We will definitely be back!

Im extremely picky when it comes to sushi, and i know quality. Very impressed, and great prices for the location. Great quality. Fresh fish. A+++ on the sushi rice. If you know sushi you know how important that is. Do not go to overpriced Sushi samba or corporate sushi maki. They are all on the same corner

My FAVORITE sushi spot in Miami, and that is saying a lot since the sushi scene here is competitive. Literally the freshest sushi I have ever had, and quality never varies the sushi here is great every time I have visited. I work in the area so I usually go for the Bento box(you get a TON of food for you money, so hard to find in the Gables). I’ll usually shares some of the cool sharing items they have up on the board. The seaweed salad is one of my favorites. This place gets PACKED during the lunch hour however food comes very fast, and you’re usually out of there before the full lunch hour is up. So worth any wait.

The food is good and reasonable price. Lunch time(12:30−13:30) can be very busy. Sushi is fresh. Ramen noodle is good. Grill rainbow trout is my favorite. All waitresses are nice and very friendly.

Very authentic Japanese small plates plus a comprehensive selection of noodles, sushi, fried and grilled preparations. Friendly, responsive service, not in the least bit discriminatory towards us round eyes. The okonomiyaki(Japanese pancakes) were particularly good, along with kurabota and baby octopus.

Food: 4 Service: 4 Value: 4 Overall: I was taken here for a work-related dinner. I shared an okonomiyaki and had a salmon don. The food was tasty and serving sizes were large. The ambience was cozy and service was good. Food: I shared an okonomiyaki(Japanese pancake) and had a salmon don(salmon sashimi over rice). The okonomiyaki was very tasty, full of savory flavors from various seafood. The salmon don had a very, very generous portion of salmon sashimi, hiding a bed of rice beneath it. The rice itself wasn’t as tasty as I expected, but the salmon was good(I am a huge fan of salmon sashimi). Service: The setting was cozy, and the service was good. Value: Prices are reasonable.

Best legit sushi in Miracle Mile so far. The lunch menu for less than 10 $ is the way to go. This is my favorite place for a fast and full meal. The owner is very funny in the way he greats you. Very nice staff in general.

We had quite the awesome meal Friday night at Su-shin Izakaya. We had dinner here a year or two ago on our last visit to Coral Gables, and I was itching to try it again this trip. Su-shin did not disappoint! When we arrived the place was packed, and we were lucky to snag a two top near the back. I like the fact that in true izakaya style they have the specials written on chalkboards on the wall in both English and Japanese. As I read all of the specials the Fugu caught my attention and I immediately ordered it to start. The Fugu was quite delicious. They had fried four small fugu(pufferfish, blowfish) in breading, sort of like tempura style. The fish itself was very subtle, and delicate, but very good. It was the first time I have tried fugu and I liked it. It was a bit of work as the fish were smaller and with many bones, but it was well worth it. We also ordered some toro, ikura, spicy tuna roll for sushi. I must say that their sushi cuts are reasonable size, and the toro especially was quite delicious. Not overly fatty and I thought the cut was a chu-toro, but at $ 7 I thought it was very reasonably priced. The spicy tuna roll was prepared exactly the way I prefer it with NO mayo and plenty of fish. The sushi rice was the perfect texture and each bite was exactly the way a spicy tuna roll should taste. I couldn’t resist the bok choy on the specials menu. Plenty of fresh, medium size bok choy in a miso sauce. This was a rather large dish, and was a good mid-course addition. We also tried the cold soba noodles, which were fantastic. I love soba and most placed do not do it right, but Su-shin did a great job preparing a simple dish. Cooked perfectly and with a nice soy based sauce, it was the perfect simple, Japanese noodle dish to finish our meal. I am a big fan of Su-shin and will definitely keep it at the top of my list for our next weekend visit to Coral Gables.

I have lived in Japan for years and moved to Miami for work. I went to Izakaya with good hope. However, I experienced the most rude service and very hilarious ramen quality. It was my first visit to the restaurant. First, the girl who served me showed up clearly not in a good mood, spoke very little English with a heavy accent and didn’t want to spend time answering my question regarding recommendation and such. Then upon checkout, she threw the check on my desk and came back in 5 minutes while I was on the phone. She was pissed off and shouted at me when she apparently saw I was talking on the phone. I said I wasn’t ready and would appreciate if I could have few minutes. She just stood by the table and kept pointed at my check to exaggerate her attempts to communicate. Finally, she even reached out through my arms to take the receipt. For the Ramen, it tastes like broth that got its flavors mostly from something milky and creamy, instead of the pork. The noodle itself tastes like right out from the fridge and looked exactly like that in the instant noodle box. It was a very sad experience. The server was very rude and the ramen was not worth its price. I will never come back or recommend this restaurant who is looking for authentic Japanese food experience and quality services. I love Miami and would keep exploring good ramen in the area.

As the mother of a picky eater sushi is never on the list of kid-friendly places we can go for dinner. Which is why my BF and I decided to have sushi on our date night. I’ve probably driven by Izakaya a hundred times and never thought to Unilocal it. I finally did last night and was intrigued by all the wonderful reviews. I have to say that this restaurant lives up the hype. The menu is quite extensive for a sushi restaurant and everything sounds amazing! We stuck to our usual(spicy tuna roll, dragon rolls, gyoza, uzuzukuri, and edamame). Everything was really fresh and the staff was beyond friendly and courteous. Oh and the prices aren’t outrageous! We ordered a lot of food and our bill was less than $ 50, which is pretty darn good for sushi. I also loved the fact that the restaurant didn’t have that weird sushi restaurant smell, y’all know what I’m talking about. That smell that sticks to you and makes it difficult to truly enjoy your meal. I see myself visiting Izakaya every chance I get!

Found this place thru my sister-in-law from her first visit to the U.S. How ironic. This is my 3rd time visiting the restaurant and I have to say, the 3 times I’ve been there I ordered the Kimuchi Ramen. Hands down the best. Along with an appetizer: age tofu(very aromatic and delicious). I brought my family to try this place out and they agreed the Ramen was delicious, freshly made and the broth OMG! Yum! We also ordered some sushi. However that was disappointing. That’s why I gave them 4 stars. Also! When I eat, I don’t like to be disturbed too much. One of the servers. Who wasn’t our server kept coming back to the table and looking over our shoulders. I felt like he was rushing us to eat. That made us all uncomfortable. The restaurant wasn’t even full. :-/ I will definitely go back but for ramen only. Maybe this time I’ll try a different type ;-)

The food here is ok. I would say that this place is the happy medium between sushi maki and sushi samba, which are the only other two sushi places around the area. The sushi is «ok». I honestly show up when I’m craving sushi but don’t feel like spending $ 80 on two rolls at sushi samba next door. This place, however, does have some pretty awesome meals that come with soup, salad, rice, and seaweed salad, for only like $ 15.

I went here for dinner on friday. The experience was good, but not the best japanese restaurant I have tried, everything was just OK and didn´t impress me so much, like… I could eat this in my own house. The mushrooms were too saucy and the squid was soft and tasteless. On the other hand, rainbow roll was good and the best choice was the sake kama(salmon head), really fresh taste. Good for a quick dinner when you crave japanese food at a nont very expensive price

I had the Tonkotsu pork Ramen. Taking a look, the presentation is good an looks plentiful. The broth is a light, white with good flavor. The pork was really good, what I should expect from a bowl like this. However, I was disappointed that for the price $ 13.95 I only receive 2 slices of pork. The noodles were a little soft for my al dente taste. I don’t know if they are fresh made or purchase. Either way I was not swing either way. Overall the dish was good and I did feel satisfied(disclaimer: I have gone twice to Japan for a total of 7wks and ate Ramen from Hokkaido to Nagasaki and ate plenty of Ramen). I have had the sushi here and is good.

After an adventurous day of touring South Beach, a group of Miami friends and I finally decided it was time to eat! We originally intended to visit a Cuban restaurant but upon arrival there, it was blatantly obvious that we would not be seated any time soon. So off we went to Su-shin Izakaya! It was quite a busy night for Su-shin Izakaya. My group consisted of 7 people but we ultimately had to split up after ~30 minutes of waiting. 2 of my friends and I were seated first at the sushi bar and the rest of the group sat at a nearby table. Service was understandably slow but a bit lacking. My impression was that the owner was standoffish and selectively favored certain guests over others. No one attempted to attend to my 2 friends and I at the sushi bar so we waited for ~10 minutes before someone helped us. The only person that convinced me that the service wasn’t awfully terrible was 1 waitress who hospitably delivered our food, making sure that hot items were placed properly before us and that we had everything we needed to enjoy our dinner. Furthermore, she took initiative to inform us that 1 of my friend’s dishes would take a bit longer to make and apologized out of courtesy. {Spicy Tuna Roll} + The best spicy tuna roll I have ever had! + Tuna was exceptionally fresh and spiciness level on point! + The sprinkling of scallions embedded throughout the sushi pieces certainly brought out the freshness of the tuna! {Konoha Donburi — Vegetable omelette over rice} + Hot Japanese comfort food! + An assortment of vegetables(i.e., carrots, spinach, bell peppers, zucchini, cabbage, broccoli, mushroom, onions) + Lightly seasoned and sauce adequately rich. Add chili powder for an extra spicy kick! Sitting at the sushi bar was a first for me. I was quite amazed at the efficiency of the sushi chefs and their method of slicing the avocados!

An authentic slice of Tokyo in downtown Coral Gables. You will actually believe you’re in Japan– I’ve been a regular for decades. And when you walk in you will be greeted by Chika the screaming owner asking: «How Are You?» PS: Cheap boxed lunch and great Kimchee. Not on the menu but worth asking for.

My husband and I came here last night. We ordered, Udon soup, Tuna tataki, Grilled squid, Zaru soba with Tempura, and fried ice-cream. The quality of the food was nice, service was nice and atmosphere were very cozy. We like their menu items on the blackboard. We will try them next time. But I was a bit disappointed by the portion of Tempura that come with my Zaru soba compared with the price that I paid. They said that for Zaru soba alone you pay $ 9 but if with Tempura you pay $ 15 for 2 shrimps, so I didn’t expect that when they mean 2 shrimps was«ONLY2 shrimps» :-(I thought at least there would be some Vegetable Tempura came along the side. I just moved from California and I usually get Zaru soba that comes with a set of Tempura(shrimps and vegetable) back there, so this was surprising to me.
