The chicken. My lord the chicken! It is hard to comprehend, that in a town fraught with restaurants that offer chicken on their menu, how does this grungy old gas station sell so much fried chicken? What makes it so annoying is that, at all hours of the day and night, there are throngs of people in here to buy chicken, but there is NOT a separate register/line dedicated to the chicken purchases. When you pop in just to buy a pack of cigarettes you most likely will have to stand 6 deep in a line, waiting on the clerk to finish dropping chicken in the fryer before returning to the register. You can sometimes smell the old cooking grease wafting through the air as you drive through the intersection. Stomach churning at times. The location of this store makes it very difficult to merge back into the traffic as it is at one very busy intersection. There is a ton of foot traffic from the local neighborhoods. The need for cigarettes(husband) on days/hours the cigarette stores are closed is what keeps me/us popping back in here as much as we do. I’ve not had the courage to order any chicken but my curiosity will get the better of me one day.

You may remember TEXACO because«You can trust your car to the man who wears the star» but this particular gas station is known far and wide for its fried chicken. One of the few TEXACO gas stations left around, this busy stop on Harper Road may well sell more fried chicken than gasoline because many people swear what the sign in the window proclaims– Best Chicken in Town. A friend goes here regularly for her fried chicken liver and JoJo potato fix. Regular or spicy, if you like fried chicken maybe you should give it a try.
