My bf’s birthday is 6⁄14 and on 6⁄13 he told me he wanted a tres leches cake. I called around and people told me it was too late to order and others wouldn’t make a 6 inch cake. It was just four of us(we just moved to the area and don’t know many people) and I didn’t want leftover cake because I’m addicted to it and I WILL eat it all if left alone with it. Some Mexican stores already had them made, but we wanted some homemade cakes. Aurora(baker) only had one review, but after I found out she made her cakes from scratch at home, I decided to give it a go. I called her(she speaks English and Spanish), and she was very nice, helpful and willing to make the mini cake for me. I told her to do whatever she wanted with it as far as decorations and color. It’s covered in whipped cream so there isn’t much you can do with it, as it’s so soft/delicate. I got to her house and the cake was so cute! She made it mint green color, which just so happens to be my favorite color AND the accent color for our October wedding. She wrote happy birthday all over it in different languages with melted chocolate mmmm. More people ended up coming over, but the mini cake was enough for eight people(conservative slice). When we tasted it… OMG…everyone LOVED it. My sister-in-law does not like tres leches and she was in love with it. The whipped cream was perfect. Not sweet at all. I could eat a pound of that stuff. The cake was just right, the chocolate writing was delicious and the strawberries in the middle were fresh. I hate super sweet cakes, so if you like the feeling of diabetes settling in, you might want to ask her to double up on the sugar. BUT don’t confuse it with blandness. It had plenty of flavor. They all asked me for Aurora’s number and they will be calling her, if they haven’t already. We order cakes very often because our family loves dessert for every occasion. I think I’m ordering one this weekend just because I’m craving it. Price-wise she was JUST a bit more than the store’s cake, BUT you can taste the freshness in Aurora’s cakes. Totally worth it for a cake made especially for you from scratch. I paid $ 25 for a 6inch with no special design and the store quoted me $ 25 for an 8inch, but I’d pay the $ 25 for Aurora’s cakes any day. Definitely recommend her. PS: I am aware there is an Aurora that left a review for her. That is not the baker leaving a comment for herself lol just in case you were wondering because I admit I thought that at first lol
