Vibrant pink walls and rows of fresh Mexican bread behind glass cases first drew me into Veytas bakery. This is the type of place that invites you to sit with a cup of coffee, and your favorite Mexican bread, to watch passer-byers stroll along 37th Avenue or to quietly read a book. The bread at Veytas is baked in small batches daily; get there by 6pm, and most of it will be gone. Veytas may lack Tulcingo’s variety, but it compensates with quality. Their conchas are soft and buttery, their acordiones small and crunchy. Try any pastry filled with marmalade or their panque(corn muffin); you will be raving for days and come back for more. The little use of cinnamon and nuts for flavor makes their bread a little shy of outstanding. This may be a matter of personal preference, so I encourage you to go and try for yourself. You will not regret it.
