It was a beautiful day at Coronado, and the sun just guided my husband and I right up to the Sun Deck Bar and Grill. As my husband was getting us drinks, I was busy looking around for the perfect table. The place was PACKED. However, a waiter by the name of Ben Miller noticed me and kindly helped us to get an ocean view table. His awareness for his customers and those entering the establishment was noticeably important to him. He made us feel so welcomed. He knew what he was serving, and made the most appropriate suggestions for both food and drink. His energy level made us stay longer than we anticipated. Over all his experience and passion in what he does created a great experience for us. THANKYOUBEN! Matt & Loni

I LOVE beaches so while visiting San Diego my husband brought me to Coronado Beach. After walking around a bit we decided to grab some drinks and chill at the Sun Deck Bar and Grill. The deck is actually really nice and has great views of the beach. We were lucky enough to score a table closer to the beach side and near the bar. Since we just wanted something refreshing we decided to have some mocktails($ 9). Plus specialty drinks were pretty pricy at $ 16-$ 18. I had the Virgin Blackberry Mojito(fresh blackberries, mint, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, soda water). It was delicious, refreshing and perfect for the warm weather. My husband had the Strawberry & Basil Lemonade(fresh strawberries, basil, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, soda water). I liked my drink better but his was good also. The only thing that was a little unpleasant was the live music was too loud. I know we weren’t the only ones that thought so because after they turned down one of the speakers blaring at guests around the corner, farthest from where the band was playing everyone clapped! EVERYONE! Even after they turned it down the music was still a little too loud. We couldn’t really have a conversation with each other and it kind of made things less relaxing. Overall we had a good time and will probably be back. It really just depends on how we’re feeling and how much we want to spend for a few drinks and views of the beach.

Food: Not available Drinks: 3⁄5 Service: 3⁄5 Décor: 5⁄5 Ambience and view at sunset was amazing– and probably worth the price. Jalapeño margarita was quite overpriced for the product, but otherwise decent. Food was not available when we arrived(5:30pm), which I thought odd. So although we were drinking, we continued to be hungry. Our server Benjamin was covering too many tables and couldn’t handle the volume– our drinks took 25 min to arrive. Otherwise very friendly. I’m happy we went and was a good start to the evening.

We came here to get drinks at sunset. Great view, high drink prices, and we missed being able to order anything to eat by fifteen minutes. It’s worth doing for the views.

Used to be a great place to bring my friends from out of town. Prices have gone way up– worse that NYC where we used to live. Star is for the view. Will not pay 30 dollars for the wrong order(burger) and cold corn on my lap. Yikes! Needs to have more dollar signs above.

Sad day. This was a great place to come and have a burger and drink and watch the waves. Now it’s over priced poorly cooked tortilla chips, awful«salsa», and over cooked shrimp. Love the view and was looking forward to showing my MIL from the UK an beautiful part of SD. Wine in plastic cups and food I would never go back for nor expect to pay this price for. Won’t be coming back any time soon!

One of my places to go with my husband. We also enjoy taking our whole family there. Beautiful view, super relaxing, great service, and comfy seating. I love the lounge type atmosphere. It is pricey, but it so worth the price. I highly recommend this place for drinks, and a nice chill time.

Are you kidding me? I’m from San Francisco so I’m used to overpriced food but this place sets a new standard for overpriced food. Paid $ 70 for guacamole, 3 soft tacos and a bowl of microwaved corn. And it took about an hour to arrive! In the meantime a seagull took the opportunity to crap on me. Not their fault, but still. Our seats didn’t even have a clear view of the beach. I will say that we had a very nice waitress who appeared to be overworked. We won’t be back and recommend that you go elsewhere too. At the very least don’t pay to park in the lot-$ 45 for two hours! We found parking at a meter nearby for 2 hours for $ 1.50. I’ll never visit this hotel or its crappy restaurants again!

My hypothesis of how management runs this business: «Hey guys! We have a big property with a bunch of random buildings on the beach!» «Yeah! Let’s charge atrocious prices for mediocre food because people like random buildings and beaches.» «People also like sitting around feeling proud of themselves for paying ass gauging prices for stuff because it implies that it must be good!» «And because I once took a microeconomics class in college, I know that we should extract as much value from consumers as possible. We’re such clever business people!» Maniacal laughs ensue.

After having a crappy experience with the skating, we sat down here for a drink and some snacks. Wow did we have an awesome server! I think his name was Ben. Maybe Bill. He smoothed over our concerns with the skating and made everything enjoyable again. We asked for a refund for skating and got some rain check passes which we would never be able to use in the 2 weeks they gave us. Ben advised us to give to whomever we wanted(we gave them to a random couple waiting to skate on the melting ice) and got us a round of drinks. Thank you Ben for spreading Christmas cheer!

We had a wonderful time here. The view was incredible. We were pleased with our food… but most importantly to me, was the service! Our Server was Shiara, she was so wonderful and accommodating. She didn’t stop smiling… She made it a five star experience!

If you’re going to have lunch at the Hotel Del Coronado, then you should do it enjoying the ocean breeze and California sun. This place is the idea setting for you Hotel Del experience. The food is good, but not great or memorable. Prices reflect the hotel’s expensive image. But, sit back and enjoy where you are and think about the friends or coworkers and realize that you are here enjoying the moment.

Pretty view of the beach and Hotel Del but since it’s on hotel property the prices are very high. I’d go for a drink but would opt to get food elsewhere.

I would give this place five stars if the prices weren’t so outrageous. I obviously don’t have the life of the rich and famous — but dang, they really take things up a notch when you look at those $ signs. But I totally get it. It’s right in front of del Coronado and wait … have you seen that view of the ocean?! So yes, it may pain you to pay that final bill, but holy cow — the scenery is well worth it. My most memorable drink from my most recent trip to San Diego was their Bloody Mary. Absolutely wonderful. So wonderful that had I had a few extra hours to spare, I would have probably ordered a couple more. It was amazing and the perfect addition to my brunch outing. If you get here early enough, snag a table that’s closest to the water. Duh. But listen, those tables go fast and people will literally spy on you if they sense that you’re ready to leave soon — just so they can snag it. So hustle on up and grab a prime location spot.

When you’re in San Diego, all you want to do is enjoy the sun, surf and some drinks while you’re at it. This bar has seating on a first come, first served basis and it was surprisingly easy to get a couple of spots on the Friday afternoon of a long weekend. Most tables /seats don’t have views of the ocean but you can see the beach from just about every spot. A couple of things I didn’t like so much: — People are allowed to smoke at the bar or at least no smoking rules were not enforced. That meant that people were smoking cigars and cigarettes right next to us which does ruin the experience. — We ordered a quesadilla(yes, off the children’s menu) and it came out without the cheese being fully melted. It was hard enough to get someone to take our order and equally tough to get someone to take it back. It would have been nice to have had that taken off our bill. — We ordered prosecco, and they must have a «no glass» rule in that area since we got or prosecco in those cheapo plastic glasses that you get from the corner store. Given that we were paying ~$ 15 – 20 per drink, it would be nice to class it up a bit. I appreciated that they were really busy and were doing their best to serve everybody but it would have been helpful if they could have anticipated the crowd Fourth of July weekend and staffed appropriately.

The view is amazing. Service is top notch. The couches with fire pits are like thrones. I took my visitor here for a drink after a walk on the beach, just hanging out to kill time before res for dinner. My mojito was delicious, they made it the right way. Just be prepared to pay $ 50 for two drinks but I think the view was worth it.

Sitting on the Sun Deck, sipping on our drinks, with a view of the ocean to one side and the hotel on the other, I could not help taking my mind back to the late 1800s, Imagining gentlemen in suits wearing top hats and ladies in their long dresses carrying sun umbrellas and wondering how life was for these prominent and elite families. …Back to the modern world… watching ladies in little sun dresses and men in tank tops, we expected to be wowed for our $ 89 lunch. We are not strangers for spending a good amount when we travel. Looking at this historical beach front property situated on an island we know our bill would be quite high… and is to be expected. The Deck has many tables and quite a few gas fire pits with lounge chairs. Many sit 4 to 6 but I saw more then half with only two customers. Being a hot sunny day they were obviously not on. My husband and I like to try different menu items when we travel to get a sense of the area. We order to share. Fish Tacos and the Los Tres Amigos [GUACAMOLETRIO]. These dishes were very good and fresh. The ‘tortilla chips’ were just that… tortillas cut up and deep fried. They were thick, and scooped the thick guacamole without breaking. The disappointment was that the base of all three guacamoles were the same with different toppings. Maybe we are suppose to mix it in. We did not and after a few scoops of each we end up with 3 bowls of the exact same thing. The quantity is enough for 4 and we could not finish since we had the Fish Tacos. The tacos were tasty and fresh. In all… the food was good, not ‘wow’. You pay for the view and historical value. We would come again for the experience. Would love to come back on a cool evening, sit by the fire and watch the sunset Service was excellent.

Here’s my take on this place: With the backdrop of the historic Hotel Del Coronado and the Coronado Beach, location is fantastic. You get a great 360 view on the deck and it’s very postcard-esque. Yes, it’s all about the view and location. I guess that justifies the high prices for their beer, wine and mixed drinks. Hmmmm?! While Wifey and I were doing the tourist thing in Coronado, we decided to stop here for some drinks and soak in the scenery and the moment. While Wifey was in line at the bar, I scanned to see if any table was available by the beach side of the deck to no avail. I finally found a couple of seats near the bar and I appreciated that the seating areas had large umbrellas to shade you from the searing sun. While waiting for the Wifey, I did notice that the line was moving slow and it was only 4 deep. There were a couple of bartenders working behind the counter with plenty of servers and bar-backs so I do see how they could be moving so slow. Anyways, this gave me the time to scan around and observe other people on the deck. The one person that stood out the most was this Asian chick who was sitting by herself taking endless selfies on her phone. She was also milking her one glass of drink that she hardly touched unless she was taking more selfies. Pretentious much? When Wifey finally arrived with our drinks, I wasn’t impressed much. Also, their beer selection was minimal and they didn’t offer any dark beer. With all the microbreweries in the region, you’d think they would have a more expansive beer menu? And 15 bucks for a mojito better be darned good, but it was just average at best. So I’m guessing you’re getting the picture here so you can take it as it is or go somewhere else. Unless you wanna be here to be seen, then this certainly is the place for you. I’ll stick with Toronado for the beer and alcohol, and come here for the view.

For $ 8-$ 14, you can get a drink from their open bar and soak up the sun. Beautiful sunset is guaranteed for the guests. I was happened to be there during the Republican National Committee. The hotels are filled with replicants. They wore suits with slick perfectly combed hair to the bar. So out of place and out of touch with the setting. I need allergy medication. The sofa area has fire pits and lots of seatings. The walking trail runs along the beach. Great place to stroll and linger.
